  1. I have a very strict personal policy of not getting mad at people's grades. It's not worth getting upset about and you shouldn't get mad at people volunteering their time & expertise in good faith. I can't see anyone getting their kicks trolling around handing out bad grades anyway. When I grade here, I do try to do my best impersonation of a CGC grader since so many folks posting here are considering sending their books in. Overstreet, MCS, CBCS & CGC certainly don't walk in lockstep about what defect counts for what. A good example of this might be CGC's stand on tape repairs, which a pretty lenient all things considered, and I'm not sure some grading standards are nearly as hard as CGC has become about stains, which I rant about routinely.
  2. A little paper aging doesn't bother me that much, but it does seem like CGC does not agree. Unless it was severe, I would never mess with this kind of defect.
  3. stress lines at the staples are going to make getting above 8.0 hard, although they do seem to love this comic at CGC. One side note, there is no direct edition of this as it predates the distribution practice. There are only this one & reprints. Issue 24 is the first Star Wars to come in direct & newsstand editions.
  4. 5.5/6.0. Seemingly oxidized paper will be a factor.
  5. The BRFC corner looks less than square. The back has some potential issues. I wouldn't project more than a 9.4 pressed, more like 9.0 now, so it depends on the price
  6. Seem to me like a lot of the Gold Key comics didn't get a lot of love in the earlier days of collecting. What few I had from the late 70s didn't hold a place of honor in my collection when I started to take the hobby more seriously. Not hoovering these up 2-3 decades ago was a mistake.
  7. 0.5 at best. The book is already in very low grade, so I don't think a smaller piece like that missing is a huge problem. My read of the guidebook is that a piece this size that impacts the story could only received a higher qualified grade if it was otherwise ≥3.5. I don't think a piece this size missing is enough for the book to be considered incomplete.
  8. A significant scuff can bring the grade down to 6.0-8.0. To me, this looks pretty significant, so I would be at 6.5/7.0
  9. @cchunn3 @AhsokaTano Jedi Apprentice The grade range stated in the CGC guide for a detached wrap is 4.0-7.5. By their grid of defects, this is (supposed) to mean a detached wrap has no impact on the grade below 4.0. So a grade of 2.5 or a 3.0 would mean the comic would otherwise grade there, and the wrap detachment would have no impact. Whether in practice they follow their own guidelines is a different story.
  10. Another oldie that I had on my bucket list. Decent looking copies are hard to come by, even if price isn't an issue. Somehow I missed the (obvious) note that the centerfold was detached, but I don't think it actually matters much with the rest of the condition. The quality of the back cover is kind of what sold me.
  11. Before the grading contest ruins everyone's confidence, a little help with this one. Kind of an impulse buy from a generally reliable seller at a price that seemed quite good for the advertised grade. Not sure it quite makes it there, but want to see if it's close enough to keep. The wear around the edges is well-represented in the photos. Binding is still tight at the staples.
  12. You need to follow community guidelines and post at least front and back cover shots outside the bag. See the pinned forum thread.
  13. Probable 1.0, 0.5 not impossible b/c of the staining on top of all the structural issues.
  14. >9.2 Looks like a quick press would be useful. Very slight bends on the cover.
  15. But the stamp is still cut out. I believe they won't encapsulate detached pieces from the cover. Not sure about inside, but I don't think it helps anyway. You didn't give us photos, but a clipped MVS always gets a green label as far as I know, so the missing stamp doesn't factor into the grade. A 4.0 tells me there are a number of defects, so the clipping isn't the biggest issue.
  16. I have an 8.5 and a 9.0 with small staple tears. This one is quite a bit larger. The guide says 7.0 to 9.6. I think this is a 7.5/8.0 tear, leaning higher b/c it's on the back cover, so the comic's appearance is less compromised.
  17. >9.2> I've seen some 9.6s with some dings on the back cover, but I doubt at 9.8
  18. I'm guessing then that an otherwise great looking book gets knocked down around an 8.0. Maybe a 7.5 if you're unlucky.
  19. Light edge wear, so less than square corners and what might be some foxing on the back. I'm not the best at IDing foxing but it is getting penalized pretty harshly. 7.0/7.5
