  1. My Howard Porter books are still at the received stage as well..... sigh I am assuming he signed after that big group of October......cause I already received Peter David and Dan Jurgens books.
  2. I have no kids as well, cause if I did I probably would have had to quit ages ago. If comics were still cheap, then yes it would be harder to quit but I just remind myself that near the end of me buying weekly comics, I spent $20 bucks on 2 modern current DC comics and that itself is bad. Prior to signing up to CGC, I read majority of the collections that CGC had linked to their site, I wondered what made those collectors quit? Was it the cost increase over time? Perhaps a untimely death? Or they needed some money? I never dreamt that a year later that my own collection would stop in Feb of this year.
  3. Ah Earth 2 (DC) man there was so much potential with that series but sadly the storyline went kaput and it ended...forever logged into one of my comic book boxes.......
  4. Exactly! The thing is, we who bought print are getting old, when I went to a small comic convention, did I see any young kids going through the $2.00 comic boxes? No I did't, so down the road when the seller is trying to unload those $ 6 dollar comics, they gonna have to drop the price just to get those 70 year old comic book readers..........
  5. I still remember DC had at one point advertise the saying, "Drawing the line at $2.99". If they are pushing digital reads then why don't I see the advertisements for that kinda of venture when I surf the net?
  6. I've read some bad DC stories as well like Cry for Justice and recent storyline that they put Wally West through was pretty bad. This is different, we all know that the cost of comics have steadily rose and some of it is related to adding varient covers to issues. I don't see the justification of shelling out over $6 bucks(including tax) for a new modern comic book. It was a great 34 year run. I'll stick to buying blue-ray videos of new DC cartoons...like that Justice Society coming out in May.
  7. Having seen some DC comic previews for March, April and May, I know there's some pretty interesting storylines coming out but I can't walk back into a comicbook store cause the temptation would be to great. If I want to keep a roof over my head and able to buy some food....comics are the one that have to go. Ebay? I have never bought anything comic related from Ebay and I sure in hell won't start now. Gonna be tough for the next couple of weeks though.
  8. Buying new comics? no. Having 34 years worth of DC comics, it's time to reread them and slab them as well. I just didn't realize that beginning of this year that I would be quitting buying new modern books. The cost of individual issues have finally gotten to the point of saying dam, that was pretty expensive entertainment.
  9. I think in general comics are at a crossroads cause of the increase in cost,, sure there's gonna be an expanded Spawn Universe now but how long will that interest last? Then again I wasn't aware that there was a big interest to make a bigger Spawn Universe to begin with. As for the nephews and one niece, showing them what they will likely inherit from their Uncle, a tonne comics that will be old and needed to be slabbed for sale.
  10. The summer of 1987 was my first experience walking into a comic-book shop and buying stack of superman comics and then today was the last time going into my local shop picking up the last round of comics as well as closing my account. Due to some big bills coming up, I realized that the most expensive thing I have to trim from my budget is comics. Last week alone I spent $20 bucks on 2 new modern DC comics, something is wrong with that. There looked to be some interesting stories that were gonna be told but the cost now out weighs the entertainment. You will never see me buy/read digital, if you gonna make a digital comic, you maze as well make it animated. Hopefully once I tackle these bills coming down the line, I can slab a few old ones before the year is out. Gonna feel weird in the coming weeks that I don't head over on Wednesday to pick up my weekly dose of new comics..... ;(
  11. You think you have it bad, scroll back abit on this thread and you will see that I am still waiting for 3 books signed by Howard Porter....still at the "Receiving"stage I'm assuming that maybe he showed up at a later date compared to Mr. Peter David and Mr. Dan Jurgens cause both of them signed my books on Nov. 12 of 2020 and I got them a week apart wayyy back in late December...........
  12. Well today is the Feb. 14, I made that post on the 8th....and it's still at the "Receive" staged.....I should mention I have already received signings from Peter David and Dan Jurgens..both of the were lucky enough to sign on Nov.12...perhaps Mr. Porter came much later.....
  13. Same boat as you, CGC received mine on Oct 14 for the big signings on Oct. 29 and etc..... 3 JLA books with Howard Porter signatures are still not back from CCS.................
  14. We are the last in line....and thanks to the media like youtube, the collectors out there can showcase their wares cause today's kids are not buying comics the way we did when were were young. They not gonna spend 20 bucks for 4 current print comics...they might buy the digital version but that's a big "Might". I have decided when it comes to unbox my CGC returns to try get my nephews and niece involved because when it comes time to had off my collection I want them to know the art as well as the value of some of those CGC slabs...
  15. I am in the exact same boat as you are....when it was stated he was coming to CGC for signings...I had to check his history to see if he had done any DC work cause I don't do Marvel ....and wouldn't you know it he did Issue 9 and 10 which I have in my collection but I don't think I have the DC Universe logo though...:( I know that late last year that the comic was picking up steam because of the potential appearance in the next Suicide Squad but I am not at that stage to sell it maybe in 20 years. Which is why I haven't bothered to slab it because I have older books that could go for the blue label slab but he's signing and Superboy Issue 9 is gettering up there in age like 27 years old!!!! I live in Canada, so I wouldn't just send one comic because the cost of shipping sooooooo I'm thinking Issue 9 and 10 of Superboy from 1994 then he had done the covers of Young Justice #44 and #45 from 2002 and maybe Showcase 95 issue 5(1995), he had done just the cover. But that's $350 American dollars with $100 for pressing and then there's the return shipping, I haven't even took in account the dollar exchange rate OY! Or do I just say I pass and don't do anything till I get my HOWARD PORTER Signature Slabs back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  16. Here's my comics that I got Mr. Dan Jurgens to sign....I would have sent alot more down there but my wallet told me if you want signatures from Peter David and Howard Porter then I'm cutting you off at 4 books! Honest wallets do talk! I dig his signature, I would not hesitate to send down more if he ever decides to visit CGC again. I mention this before on this thread but the reason I sent down Superman 60 was because Mr. Dan Jurgens created a character named Agent Liberty whose first appearance was in that issue...sadly no mention of it on the slab...and the character even got a mini-series!!!! oh well. Eventually Agent liberty was killed by Superwoman aka Lucy Lane.. I should mention that I used pre-made window bags(blue color) for all the books I sent down in october for the writers/artists to sign, happy with results.
  17. Thanks! I went through alot of comic books that Mr. Jurgens has done, it was a tough choice to decide which first ones I should get him to sign. He had jumped onto the Superman title at issue #57, which I also have but I thought getting a character he created 3 issues in would be cooler, sadly CGC does not recognize when Agent Liberty was created. sigh. I was tempted to send in his work from the title he had started Teen Titans Vol 2 1 | DC Database | Fandom but my budget was already at it's limit. Maybe next time he visits CGC. afterall his signature is pretty nice. I do have all of his Teen Titan issues. Sadly his Teen Titans lasted around 2 years. ;(
  18. Another fun time opening up a box from CGC with the youngest nephews. My brother convinced me to try out the whole green screen thing aka background soooo I did thus the results are pretty rough . So as of today being Sunday, the last set of books that consist of Howard Porter's signature are still at the "Receiving" stage so probably maybe by the middle of February I'll see them..... then after that.....no new slab stuff my wallet says I can afford to send more old comic books down to be graded which looks to be near the end of fall.
  19. Well my books consisting of Mr. Dan Jurgens signature is coming back through Fedex and I checked the Grades cause I can!!!! and I am happy with the results cause well 2 of them are well over 20 years old. Then I realized that some itty bitty info was missing on a book. I had sent it in to begin with to see if CGC would actually know this info apparently they don't or they forgot to tell one of their minions to check Dan Jurgens writing history. Cause I sent in Superman #60 to get signed because..... Agent Liberty was created by Dan Jurgens and made his debut in Superman Vol. 2 issue #60(October 1991). Heck I even sent in Booster Gold #1 and info includes that Justice league made appearance. For those that a curious what the cover of Superman 60 looks like I scanned the comic before sending it down and I also included what info will be on the slab once it's in my hands.
  20. Finally got around to uploading my first set of books from the October signings which included Mr. Peter David. First time testing out the premade window box covers too. oops after post, noticed they are tad blurry from editing out backgrounds..oh well.
  21. It has been awhile because of the waiting period for slabs to come back and finally getting around to posting the video of the unboxing. In this video I shared my experience with my oldest niece and nephew cause they hardly read comic books but now they know the process of preserving somewhat old books. When I'm an elder, I will be asking them to do the job for me. This is the first set of books that have come back, the Dan Jurgens books are currently at the Grading stage and the ones from Howard Porter are still at the "Receiving stage". Sadly I could not send books down to CGC for those Johns,Fabok and Anderson signings, cause of the Canadian dollar exchange rate....with everything going on because of this freakin pandemic I have to wait till fall to see if my wallet can send any more books down to CGC this year..... so just 2 more videos of unboxing coming down the line.
  22. Soooo, the first set of books using the new pre-window made bags came back, and I'm happy with the results. I got Mr. Peter David's signature on 3 books, Supergirl 1 and 4 from the second volume and Ist issue of Young Justice, I'm pleased where he had signed and happy with the grades. Signatures are expensive if you take into account the Canadian Dollar exchange rate....so no more books to send down till late fall.....
  23. Hello there! I had 3 sets of books sent down to CGC for that big signature signing at the end of October and along with the pressing, my first set of books from Peter David will be supposedly deliver on Dec. 29th. Although its says Fedex 2day economic delivery, must be cause of the busy christmas season and me living in good old Alberta. He had signed them on November 12... and looks like the second set of books by Dan Jurgens is currently at the "Grading" stage. Now as for the grades from Peter David signings, #1 Supergirl: 9.6, #4 Supergirl: 9.4 and #1 Young Justice: 9.6 Woot.:) I could have just got the first 3 issues of Supergirl done but I thought yellow would look good on that #4 Supergirl. and what better to start slabbing my Young Justice collection than to have the writer sign the first one.
