The items that take a long to to get/finish are always the most exciting to me.  This is one of those.  This is a print done in the late 80's by the Mirage Studios artists minus Eastman and Laird showing the turtles and many of the supporting cast at the time.  I love the way the different styles come together in one piece.  The print itself is quite limited.  In fact, I believe there are 2 versions of it with this one being the more common of the two.  Anyway, my goal was to get this one signed by all the contributing artists.  I've been slowly adding to this for years and today I finally have it finished:

    TMNTMirage-80sprintMerge.thumb.jpg.733ba85255fdd5a2ca609db68fcc32ff.jpg

    Left to right, there's

    Steve Lavigne

    Dan Berger

    Ryan Brown

    A.C. Farley

    Eric Talbot

    Jim Lawson

    Michael Dooney

THAT is absolutely incredible.  I don't get jealous often but I am now.  I'm not familiar with this print.  What is the history behind it?  I'd love to track one down someday.

Stan Sakai held an ebay live event last night for Valentine's day.  At some point in the stream, he showed off a personal sketchbook of his where he got some sketches in the 80's from some notable artists.  Among them were some truly excellent examples of early TMNT, one by Peter Laird and one by Kevin Eastman.  The inscription on Kevin's seems to indicate that it was from the first time he met Stan.  Very cool!  I took screen captures of the screen and figured I'd share.  They're awesome!

Oh wow!  Those are awesome!  I'd actually like to get a print of Lairds.

Oh wow what book was this?! Should I expect an upcharge for grading for my Giant Size Xmen 1?? They charged me like $120

It's always possible they could upcharge you if they determine your book is worth more than you declared it.  But I only paid so much because I declared it's value at $20,000.  It's a TMNT #1 first print that is in pretty decent shape.

Thanks for much for the feedback. I’ll let you know how it goes!! Could it be today or tomorrow?! So excited been wanting this book forever haha…

Yes, it could definitely be today or tomorrow. The wait after QC is not usually all that long unless there is a backup somewhere.

I'm on day 4 of an Unlimited Value magazine submission. It's been in the Grading/Quality Control stage for over 24 hours now.  So it looks like there might be a hold up somewhere on the magazine side, potentially.

My girlfriend and I bought and submitted our book to CGC here at Megacon in Orlando this weekend. It was a bigger book so I did the Unlimited Value tier. It was actually already received and now it is in G/E/I. I’m just wondering what I can expect from here on out as I never really submit at this tier so I’m just curious.

Congrats on the big book.  I feel like it should go into Grading/Quality Control and ship within a few days (maybe today or tomorrow).

To my knowledge, this is the lowest graded CGC Last Ronin book on the census by about 3 points. I had a bunch of the artists bend, rip, smudge the book as well as add some great art to it. For being a completely destroyed book, it displays pretty well.

I love all the art and signatures.  It all looks awesome.  But just out of curiosity, why did you ask them to bend up the book?

The person who stole the books doesn't work there any more.

Yeah that doesn’t give me any comfort.  This was a bigger problem than one or two employees.  It’s a lack of oversight and security.  And we have no way of knowing what (if anything) has been done about it.  They may have totally overhauled their internal procedures.  But we have n way of knowing.

I will tell you that I am now absolutely TERRIFIED to submit anything to the CGC...

especially my high-value reholders. I guess those books will be staying in the older slabs for now.

I have an unlimited value submission there right now and I'm extremely worried.  If I would have seen this news before I sent it, I probably wouldn't have.  All I can think about is my book sitting on a shelf waiting to be stolen.

Shocking if true. Literally every single business in the world that deals with items of value has internal controls to prevent insider shenanigans.

I've worked for companies that required me to get someone to unlock a cabinet so I could get supplies like pens and paper.  It's shocking if CGC blindly trusted all employees around our books.  The phrase "keeping them honest" comes to mind here.

I agree 100% but in general lawyers advise clients to never divulge more information then you must, and never reveal anything you are not ready to talk about publically. This case was not public, so I suspect he was told to say nothing of it.

Does not mean that is the right play from the public relations standpoint, when you know it will come out, but from the legal standpoint it is the play they will almost always make. Also, he may not have been at liberty to say anything which may put this litigation at risk. So essentially Matt was under an NDA.

Agreed.  I have zero expectations of any type of public acknowledgement or explanation since there is currently litigation and anything said by CGC can be used in court.  Unfortunately I think people are going to have to be patient with this one.  Even though they have every right not to be.

One thing we have in abundance in the Tidewater Area is great places to eat and great comic shops. Heroes and Villains closed up a while back, the landlord wanted a 12 month commitment and Covid still cast the shadow of shutdowns, so Rich only wanted 30 day renewals. Can't really blame him. GOD BLESS...

I grew up in Virginia Beach, VA.  My first shop was Comics and Things on Holland Rd.  I used to walk up there in the late 80s-90s and buy comics and cards.  Good memories of buying all the X-Men 1 covers.  😁
