I've stumbled upon many a newsstand-looking copy and each time compared the last five digits in the barcode to those in pics found either on MHC or MCS and it always matched some type of "KB Toys" special or "Checkers" or other.   I have not been able to find a pic of a copy that is the true newsstand version of this, if anybody has it, can you please post?    Thanks

Newsstands of Ultimate Spidey 1 don't exist

In Colorado, there are now stores focused on "Dead Media".

VHS, DVDs, older video games, records, etc.

Those are being coupled with other collectible types like toys.

Cassette tapes are another huge seller now.  This one surprised me, but I guess it's no different than VHS.

    Laser Discs have a following.

The one that doesn't seem to have as much interest here are 8 Tracs.

    VHS are the new records

You’re en fuego. Probably not a good thing for overall value?  Maybe that’s why Lazyboy gave me the confused  emoji?

Not great for overall value but it’s not worthless. All versions of Ultimate Spidey 1 sell for at least $10+

many years ago in the 70s a guy got frustrated with the 10% or less LCS offered and stood outside the shop selling his collection.  He was banned from the store but didnt care.  I was like YOU ROCK!!!  lol

That’s funny cause solicitors who sell chocolates to raise funds come into comic stores often asking if it’s okay to loiter

Well, I got through about 1/2 of the top box I picked.  Looks like it was DC starting with "S".  Mostly 80's/90's.  Stuff like: Secret Origins, The Shadow, The Shadow Strikes, Shadow Cabinet, Shadows Fall, DC Silver Age Classics: Showcase, New Talent Showcase, Showcase '93, Skin Graft, Wrath of Spectre, The Spectre, Spelljammer

Like @littledoom just said probably not worth looking them up, made it through 93 tonight with just about everything priced around $3.

There were 3 from the 60's

1962 Showcase #40 - Metal Men - a higher dollar comic, but... this one is POOR.  Split Spine, Puncture, 1/4 of a page corner ripped off but present, 1/4 of a page ripped and missing, ripped cover, it's a train wreck.

1969 Showcase #85 - Firehair - maybe Fine condition, so not worth a ton

1969 Spectre #9 - about a fine, highest value of the group, but still nothing to write home about.

Many of you messaged me not to expect much out most, especially the DC ones, so about what I expected.

The 2nd half of this box doesn't look that much more promising with a big chunk of Star Trek, then Steel, and Suicide Squad, but at least there are 20 or so 1970's in there with Star Hunters and Superboy in the mix, but those are for tomorrow.

A lot of titles might only have 1-2 keys in the entire series run of possibly 100+ issues in it. Unless it’s Amazing Spider-Man, Batman, Detective Comics or X-Men which have many good ones spread throughout the decades

For a long time I couldn’t move them especially when Hughes was as red hot

i gave up and moved them to the $1 boxes about a year ago, I’m sure they are long gone

As a big lot they sell well together. But Classic X-Men is copper age tho ;)

I know of one LCS that lowballed someone on a couple books he brought in to see what they'd offer.  He didnt know anything about comics he inherited the collection.  They way lowballed him and bought the books.  when he went to another LCS they told him what the books he sold were worth along with some other books he brought in.  The guy decided he wanted to sell the collection to them because they were honest.  This was a $200,000 collection.  The LCS explained that and said they could not afford the collection.  the guy said what can you offer and the honest LCS got the collection very cheap. The guy didnt want to go through the hassle of selling the books individually and just wanted a decent chunk of change and a fast transaction.
The initial LCS shot themselves in the foot with their lowballing.

I just wait outside after the sellers walk in with inherited comics on Saturdays. Shop employees don’t know how to handle these situations.

If you offer 50-60% retail to just buy them he's getting the same deal and the money right away!  worth a shot.

Its a question I thought of myself. If you are willing to give up 40% as a fee you can probably get close to that just selling them outright and be done with it.

I tried buying them but he wants a lot. I don’t pay 50-60%. I pay somewhere around 30%. That said he is the original owner who bought these in the 80s and in the 90s. So he’s had these “babies” for decades. He values them greatly and has attachment. He brought up the consignment idea first and then I agreed it’s best to help him out.  He’s also in a financial situation where he needs the funds soon as he is out of work

Hi guys, thanks for all the tips.  Show is over, grass is mowed, hoping to get to at least a few tonight.  I do have a full time job, the coin business on the side, 4 kids at home, sports to take them to, etc etc - trust me though - nobody wants to dig into these as quick as me, bare with me.

These were pretty well arranged in his room by DC/Marvel/Indie and alphabetical, but there were a lot of piles here and there or in some non-comic book boxes that we just kind of stuffed in whatever box had room, so they're not all 100% pre-sorted, plus the whole lowering them down from the 2nd floor, stacking them in the van, unpacking them in various places in the house, they are in no order, and I'm not digging to the bottom to find the "A"s.  I'll just get whatever is on top.

I did see the guy I bought them from today again at the show and asked a few other questions.  He did say when he closed the shop he had a going out of business sale/clearance, and sold a ton, and he's guessing any super-high dollar things (at least in the 80's) were bought then.  He guessed I would find a ton of $20 or so books mixed in with the lower stuff, but he hasn't kept up too much on the prices today.  I asked about some of the 90's and 2000's and he said some were from what his other friend gave him when his own shop closed up in late 90's and he just added them to the pile, and he also put his own personal books he continued to subscribe to and/or buy/read since the shop closed, so I guess that explains the newer things.

@THE_BEYONDER - No offers via PM, but a lot of nice friendly PMs with tips, warnings, welcome, etc.  Appreciate them all.

@Wolverinex More than likely as the sales start and money coming in, it will go back into the business account and buy more coins of course, that is my primary business right now - not sure where this little adventure will take me or cause a fork in my business model.  I'll probably be pulling my hair out and going even grayer with them so who knows.

@BlowUpTheMoon It was nice meeting you today, thank you for the chat, advice, tips, and for being a resource in my corner.  I'm sure we'll talk more in the future.

@Domo Arigato I'll get to them, see 1st paragraph - busy guy.  I doubt I'll have time, or the wife will have patience for taking 25 at a time with a step ladder in the living room as someone suggested, I was thinking more whenever I look up/price a box, just giving a summary of what was in there, rough prices of them, maybe a group shot of some if they're interesting, but 340 pictures of 25 comics at a time doesn't seem like good use of time lol.  Trust me - I'm sure there will be plenty of $1-$5 comics nobody wants to see pictures of.

You guys have given me at least 4 online resources, I may get an overstreet, but I still find it faster to look at things online (type 100+ WPM, and my eyes suck).  With all those resources, I doubt even this newb can screw up or overlook something that every guide says is worth $2.  As I run across things with a bit more potential, I'll dig deeper and ask questions when need be.

    Jeff

There’s going to be comics in those boxes that aren’t worth your time looking up. Those are dollar comics. The job right now is to pull out all the keys and noteworthy comics of value. The difficult part is that if you aren’t knowledgeable w years of experience in comics you won’t know. You should hire someone in your area who is comic savvy to assist. Go to the next comic show in your area and whoever’s there digging through boxes before the show starts are the guys you’re going to want to talk to. They know what’s good.

40%??   More like 10%. But depends on what state the comics are in. Boxes of raw ungraded low or mid grade the dealer needs to spend way more time prepping grading and finding buyers, as well as discounting to sell

but slabbed books are a done deal. 10%. Or 15% tops if they need to be scanned etc.

wait, are these being consigned to you to sell?  Or you looking to have someone else sell your books?

Yes these are raw vintage comics from the original owner. For the most part they’re all bagged/boarded. I will be selling them for him. It’s about two longboxes full plus extras

Thats very poor from the seller.

I'd imagine the dealer would be royally pizzed.

Yeah, idk why the dealer would be on his way without guarantees. Usually you have to space out meeting times and give the whole “if the other guy flakes I’ll let you know”. Two ppl shouldn’t be heading to the same private deal

  12. 2022 update to an old thread I found which had consensus on about 40%. My question is that 40% rate before or after eBay fees? I’m consigning a Bronze Age Marvel original owner collection and it has many keys. Some SA also. I’m looking to sell in person first then online

ETA: If there's a story to tell, do tell!

    It involved so much physical energy, anxiety, traffic ticket.. it’s one of those way too good priced collections that if I didn’t buy it some dealer would. And little did I know a dealer was actually in his van on his way to buy the collection but I had already purchased it. (He lives very far, I live close). [An inside friend told me this info]. {lol}
