  1. So the book is back from CGC and I am really pleased (actually quite shocked) at the grade the book received. I’ve had books with fewer flaws grade lower so this is a head scratcher. But I’ll happily take the grade!
  2. 6.5 - 7.0 (IF a good cleaning can remove that back cover staining). Nice book in any case. Thanks for sharing.
  3. Wow. That is a beautiful copy! Thanks for sharing.
  4. The crease and edge compression on the back cover are non color breaking so you should be able to correct them with a good press. With those out of the way, I don't see any reason why this book wouldn't grade in the 9.6 (or even 9.8) range. Congratulations on acquiring a beautiful copy of this iconic book!
  5. Just got my book back from CGC. I must say that they addressed the problem quickly and competently. While I am not new to this game, I guess that I had been fortunate enough to not run into this type of issue with my previous submissions. It really threw me at first and I have to give a big "Thank You" again to everyone who offered their advise and guidance.
  6. @flashlites The Verified Signature service costs $20. Its an add on to the standard CBCS grading service. When I submitted my book (pre pandemic) the lead time was an extra few weeks on top of the standard. These days….
  7. Thanks @flashlites! When I first bought the book, I had no idea how rare a Schwartz sig. was. I feel very lucky to have it in the PC. Now all I need is to find a loose cover!….😆
  8. I agree. Unfortunately, that color breaking crease on the back cover along with the additional wear will really drop the grade. The book definitely doesn't look like it was pressed or, at least, it was poorly pressed. If you had the pressing done in house by CCS, then you might be able to resubmit as a mechanical error and get them to press it again free of charge. Not sure it will change your grade but it will certainly look better.
  9. Picked up this coverless copy of SC4 on eBay way back in 2000. I purchased it with an unverified Julius Schwartz sig. on the splash page which was later verified when I had the book slabbed by CBCS. The picture below is from prior to grading/slabbing.
  10. It is indeed! @Get Marwood & I It's frankly about time.
  11. I honestly can't understand the historical stigma associated with "pence" price variants. I know that collectors are finally reevaluating these books but for the longest time, most collectors wouldn't touch them. Even if they did, it was at a very steep discount to the "cents" FMV values. This is mind boggling to me, considering the premiums that collectors have always paid for other price variants (i.e. Canadian, Australian). On top of that, if you factor in the scarcity of pence books in the market (4,450 U.S. copies vs. 85 Pence copies of ASM 1 in CGC census), collectors really should be prioritizing these variants over the normal cents copies. An investment no-brainer I.M.H.O.
  12. 5.0 - 6.0 with a press. Really vibrant colors. The cover offset threw me off for a minute with the white border. That’s actually kind of an interesting printing defect but shouldn’t impact the grade. Cheers!
  13. Hah! I’ve seen the same stamp on several other pence books. Aparantly you used to be able to trade them in. Presumably for the newer issue??? Anyone “in the know” out there please chime in.
  14. My AF15. Currently in dry dock @Hero Restoration for tape removal and a thorough cleaning. Hope to have her home soon.... Great to see such a healthy thread on these Pence variants. These books are so cool and super scarce.
  15. Wow. That's a really clean looking copy! With a C&P I'd say 5.5. If not for the water stains I think you'd be solidly in the 6.5 range. Thanks for sharing.
  16. 6.0-6.5. Definitely needs a good cleaning and press. One of the grails!.
  17. One like this: https://www.ebay.com/itm/115338241523?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=iCp7x-3VRrW&sssrc=2047675&ssuid=k7sEkydtTYu&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY Or maybe not.... It would need to match the back side of the page too and I'm not sure this one does.
  18. If it were my book, I'd secure the loose corner from the inside with a spot of archival tape so that the book can be pressed. To me, cover appearance in lower graded books is crucial and that's especially true with a qualified grade. With a decent press your book will look good in a slab. I'd also consider picking up a loose value stamp (I see them on eBay all the time). It wont change the grade or the qualified label, but at least it will be a complete book. Just my 2 pesos.....
  19. Agree with @grendelbo. Qualified 3.5. If that corner is barely hanging on, it may not survive a press. I wouldn’t put regular tape on the book. Maybe a small price of archival tape (non acidic & removable).
  20. 9.4, maybe even a 9.6 with a good press. Very Nice. Congrats.
  21. 9.0. With a C&P maybe even better. A good press should get rid of those spine ticks along the back cover. Nice Book!
  22. Cant see it going higher than 3.0. In my experience, CGC is stricter with their grading of Copper Age and Modern Age books. Still an iconic book though. Congrats on the find.
  23. Nice book! Also nice to see that CCS did a good job on the C&P. Congrats!
