  1. I'm pretty excited about this one. Over the past two weeks, I won four different lot auctions on eBay, all from the same seller. Amazingly, I was the sole bidder on each of these four auctions. In total, I paid $245.62 - that includes shipping - for 84 books across all four lot auctions, or a little less than $3 per book. I identified 36 "keepers" for my own collection (some much more valuable than others) - so I guess you could actually say I spent $245 on 36 books, or just under $7 per comic. I do plan to sell the other 48 remaining books to recoup some of my costs and drive down the overall expense though. Here are my 36 keepers; I'm really happy with how it turned out and what I ended up with:
  2. Oh I 100% pre-ordered issues - for less than $3 or whatever an issue, I figure it's worth it to take a shot , plus I want to see if the story ends up being any good.
  3. Yeah, I don't get it. I was shocked by the price and thought about listing - I have a cgc 9.6 and a raw newsstand that's probably an 8.5. I saw that post and figured I'd sell the raw for something, but then I realized you can still buy a NM raw of that book for like $10-15... what's the deal there? Just because it's undergraded and you might pull a 9.8? So you're taking a chance by paying $120 to maybe get a $200 book IF you pay the $30-something grading fees (after potential press and shipping, etc.) and wait 9+ months and hope it's a 9.8? That seems... not smart... Edit to add - I paid $30 for my 9.6 about a year and a half ago, and I bought the newsstand for $5 a couple weeks ago.
  4. Kind of. I find Stars at shows/antique fairs/LCS's all the time for $1-3 that I end up selling for $10-20 on eBay. Just sold a Strawberry Shortcake 1 (it's actually a few posts up on this thread) last month for $15, paid $2. Had Madballs 1-3 that I bought for $3 total and sold for $20. I'm not getting rich off it, but I buy and sell a lot of books to fund my personal collection purchases, and I always buy cheap Star comics when I find them, because I know that if I can get them for a couple bucks and they're in decent shape, I'll get 5-6x money back or more.
  5. Wow! Nice finds!! Edit - I've found some great hidden gems at LCS's, but it's usually niche titles that slip through the cracks. Always nice (and kind of amazing) when you find a ridiculous deal in a more mainstream title at a shop.
  6. Maybe you're thinking Batman 619? It's still in the Hush run and has a gatefold...
  7. These are two I still really want to add to my collection at some point - nice books!
