  1. Just got these in today: And also this one - really love this Hughes cover!
  2. One more "big batch of books" mail day - the last one for awhile: Lady Death Swimsuit Special 1 - Signed Pandora/Shotgun Mary Blue Foil 1/100 Teen Titans 48 Double Cover: I can't find a ton about this one - Wolverine Untamed Sticker Album. The album is complete with every sticker stuck in the book: And I also got the following in the mail the other day from @John R's excellent sale - thank you!
  3. I state in my listings that I won't ship Media Mail - I hate when people ship comics to me via Media Mail, and I refuse to send that way myself. Had a guy message me and ask, "what do you mean by you won't ship Media Mail? I'm new to this." So I messaged back, patiently explaining what I meant. He then placed a $20 offer on a book I had listed for $25. I usually like to let offers sit for a little bit, since they're technically binding for 12/24/48 hours (however long the offer limit is), just in case someone else comes along and buys the book at BIN. But 10 minutes after he made the offer, he messaged me again asking me if I would decline it. People are weird.
  4. "Good artists copy; great artists steal." - Picasso Georgia O'Keeffe - Jack in the Pulpit No. IV, 1930
  5. I never thought I'd own a copy of Detective Comics with a 2-digit issue number. I guess I just figured they'd be so far out of reach and prohibitively expensive, but actually a number of them are relatively affordable. I found a copy of Detective 94 that I liked and went for it. It's low grade, and not a grail or a big book by any stretch, but it's my only GA book, and I love it!
  6. I overpaid for my 9.0 back in August compared to now. Oh well, still a cool book I'm happy to have!
  7. Yeah, I can definitely see that point of view. I feel very much the same about Gleason for example - when ASM 55 came out, I just loved that webhead cover. I got feelings of Jock's Detective 880 - like wow, what a cool way to represent the character in a way I don't really remember seeing. But then it seemed like every single cover Gleason did got the webhead treatment, and it just wasn't as "special." It seems like now, when something takes off, then the publisher/artist/whomever responds by saying, "well, they liked that, let's shove it down their throats." I'm as guilty as the next guy of buying into it - I buy cover swipes and "homages" of covers I like all the time. But then there are those covers that resonate with me for some reason I can't quite put my finger on, and that Hulk 1 is just one of them. I can't explain it. I was into Pupeteer Lee's work from early on, and I still love it - and I think it's an example of someone having a style and working within the parameters of that style - but even their work is beginning to have a "sameness" quality to it. Which is also a little weird to think about because when you see vintage Neal Adams for example, it's almost immediately recognizable, but to me that's a good thing - that's my favorite Batman.
  8. It's strange, because in the case of the Hulk cover, it's the simple, childlike, whimsical nature that makes me stop and take a second look at it, and for whatever reason, I really like that particular cover, even though it's not usually the style I like. For example, I usually hate most of what Skottie Young does, even though you can see parallels between his work and Momoko's Hulk 1 cover in some ways...
  9. Maybe it's too obvious, but I grabbed a couple of the Momoko covers. I actually really like the Momoko Hulk cover, I felt like it has the potential to be one of those classic covers:
  10. Great sale, cool books, excellent prices, fast shipping and wonderful communication - can't ask for more than that! Thank you!
  11. I'll go four! (That's what she said?)
  12. I did the same thing, but on a much smaller scale - Ultimate Fallout 4 - bought at the very top of the spike (and I'm not even talking 9.8, I bought a 9.2). But like anything else, I've had some wins and I've had some dumb purchases. Win some, lose some.
  13. It reminds me of beer lines - I've been putting my money toward books for the past year or so, but prior to that I was the guy standing in line at 2 am on Black Friday and other days throughout the year for "rare" beer releases. For a while, there was a trend where people would show up, set up a camp chair (like a Coleman fireside camping chair) at the front of the line, and then leave. People who would show up after and actually sit on line from 2 am (or 11 pm the night before, or earlier) until the store opened - they finally started getting fed up, and they would remove and trash the chairs and then harass the people when they finally came back. On the flip side of that, I've waited on beer lines where someone at the front would ask us to hold his place around 6 am, go to a local Dunkin Donuts and buy breakfast sandwiches for everyone who made the commitment to wait all night. So there's good and bad. We'd also usually share rare beers to drink while we waited all night, so it was like a weird fun party. Nowadays I'd rather spend on books, but I won't lie, those days could be pretty fun.
  14. I feel like this cover has been hot for a while though, no? Maybe not $100 raw hot, but definitely $50 hot...
  15. It's interesting - I thought this was the first appearance of Arnim Zola, but it looks like they're calling his first appearance 208 (I didn't have the opportunity to buy 208 anyway, it wasn't available). But in 208, he's only shown once on the last page, and in 209 he's the main story...
  16. Today, I got a copy of Gamut, a comic magazine produced in 1975 by the students of the cartooning class at Sheridan College in Oakville, Ontario, Canada. I'm sharing it here because I thought it was really cool, and maybe others would like to know more about the history behind it. First, here's the book - it's the error edition of the first issue, with the wrong or incomplete coloring on the cover: There's an excellent and thorough article about Sheridan and this book in particular on Comic Book Daily, that I believe was written by a fellow board member - @ecgt? I'll link to the article here, and I'll pull out a couple of short excerpts and share some pics of the book's interior. Here's the article: https://www.comicbookdaily.com/columns/forgotten-silver/the-gamut-of-comic-creators-at-sheridan-college-in-the-1970s/ If this is interesting to you, I really suggest you go read the whole piece, it's really well done. Here are some interior photos, featuring work by Wrightson, Adams and Eisner, including a rough-sketch page from Wrightson of his story "The Gourmet" from Plop! #1, and his original, unfinished "Bat-Bunny," looking a bit like Captain Carrot:
  17. Another awesome mail day to kick off the weekend! First, got another nice batch of cool stuff, with a couple of pretty unique/interesting things in this one: I had to do a front/back of this one, pretty sweet back cover: This one is seriously cool (even with the foxing on the cover) - it's from a student group at a Canadian college, but they had lecturers like Mike Ploog, Will Eisner, Bernie Wrightson. This is the error version with messed up colors on the cover. There's some cool history about this that I found online; maybe I'll do a separate post - I think people could find it interesting: Another cool one - it has a DC Reader Survey insert: Second bit of mail - picked this up on eBay because I'm a sucker for Batman 423 cover swipes:
  18. I'd definitely defer to someone with more experience and I'd like to hear what others have to say, but just my experience with our safe is enough to make me shy away from an airtight case.
  19. I don't have a solution, but an observation/question - is this an airtight case? I ask because we have a fire safe for important documents, etc., and I noticed that if we don't open it for a long time, the documents have a weird "damp" feeling to them, like the safe is retaining humidity inside it...
