  1. Also sorry to hear about your uncle.. Its great to hear that he enjoyed reading comics as a way to get his mind off his sickness, looks like he has one heck of a collection. I really hope that the book wasn't touched up either, but by the looks of the creases at the bottom corner of the book, it may have been. Possible that the store your uncle bought the comics from may have touched up areas where they shows any defects so that they would be able to sell them quicker and easier, or maybe the comic was previously bought by someone else and returned it with the color touch (not sure if returns back then would have been accepted). I think the best course of action is to send it to a professional like CCS where they do a screening on books and let you know straight off the bat whether a comic is all original or had been restored/trimmed.
  2. Looks 5.5. Not sure but is that some color touching at the bottom of Iceman's left hand? The purple circular color in that area looks suspicious from the rest of the reddish background that is seen throughout. Could also be a stain that may have lightened that spot?
  3. Short answer.. Because he is practically naked with ripped tight abs!
  4. I hope the buyer(s) of those two fake sales did not proceed with payment... I mean if they have some common sense, if it is too good to be true, than more likely than not it really is!!
  5. Quite shock reading this post regarding all about book and comics, I actually had to read the title store name twice (thought it was seller all things comics from ebay) but from my personal experiences, even having done a huge cash transaction with them when they met me in LA, they are nothing but professional, a huge passion for the hobby, and the books I bought were as described. They were very nice people to deal and talk to and I would be in touch with them every now and then for any new books. They know exactly the kind of books I'm looking for and would let me know their new stock. I'm sorry to hear about the OP's experience with them, but would like to hear both sides first before coming up with a conclusion. So far, we are only hearing one side of the story, and that is not fair in my opinion. I do agree though that if a book was described and/or sold as unrestored than the seller/store owner should stand by it. If it does come back restored, trimmed, etc. than store should refund the buyer minus any grading fees. It is also the responsibility of the buyer to be educated in looking through the book for any missed restoration, pages missing, etc. I mean if you are throwing out thousands in cash, you better damn know what you're doing and what exactly you are paying.
  6. To his credit, he has been mentioning whether the book has been restored, trimmed, etc. Not sure how credible his restoration check is on "unrestored" books he has listed, but even with the disclosure, I still wouldn't buy from him. His name has been tainted for years as a seller and I would not change my mind about it.
  7. Nope, this was though from a collector whom I bought it from who's had it for I dunno how long ago
  8. Beautiful looking copy! Looks like it came fresh from the presses. Congrats!

If you have anymore questions, please ask. Thanks! First one with get it either here or via PM. Timestamp will be used to see who was earlier with it. Fantastic Four #48 - Beautiful looking copy with offwhite-white pages. No tanning on the book at all which is fairly common especially on the back. Could possibly re-grade higher and with white pages! Asking Price: SOLD!
  10. As it stands, it looks more like a 4.5 could possibly be trimmed or restored too! I wouldn't buy a PGX graded book if I were you.
  11. Wow just saw this thread! What an inheritance and congrats to you!! Best of luck to your books with CC, I'm sure you will do very well! I think you made the correct decision consigning with them. I would've done the same too!
  12. I'll go with a 7.0. I don't think a press would help the grade. Nice copy.
  13. Sold for $6700.. ugliest 5.0 I've seen. Looks more like a 3.5 also. CGC label seems to check out, but book may have been switched for a lower grades copy possibly?
  14. Thanks for agreeing for once. I should take a picture of this, probably will never see again!!
  15. Looks like there might be restoration done especially on the text "amazing" looks like color touch and maybe pieces added.
  16. Doc Ock > Vulture... it should be doing better than #2. Remember about 15 years ago when FF4 & FF5 were basically the same price? Look at the difference between the two now (although I think subby is going to start kickin butt) Agreed! Doc Ock is such a cooler villain and I like the cover better too! I would even put ASM #4 over ASM #2, but that's just me.
  17. Well, the Heritage FF 1 CGC 4.5 copy sold today for around $17,400 which is in line with the Hakes 4.5 that sold last month. Would be interesting to see how much this book sells for in a year or so.
  18. I've seen that "S" black marking in pre Robin tecs as well.l, in fact I had a Tec 35 with it and I've seen it in a 33 and 37. Not sure if it is from the same collection.
  19. ASM 3 has always been a pretty hot and popular book to own/buy. I believe it has overtaken #2 in value recently?
