  4. Wow what a nice TOS 39!!! Even with the punch hole, does not seem all that distracting compared to the AF 15 Edenwald book. How's the back cover?
  5. Wow what a great pick up! Like others, haven't seen a 3.0 in years!!! Congrats!!!
  6. Where did all these great tec books come from? Just happened overnight I guess! Thanks for sharing fellas!
  7. It's a long shot but if you ever decide to sell the book, let me know
  8. My 28-37 run. Not the greatest picture, but the only one I have before being tucked away. This is the type of thing that makes me miss the days when this thread was more active. What a fantastic group-shot. (thumbs u Any stories behind the "why" and "how" you landed all of those? All these books have either been owned by George(1KOKO) or Rick(G.A tor). The first book I bought was the TEC 33. George had it in the forum sales, I debated, pondered and pulled the trigger. It was nearly not meant to be, I had just purchased a Mac and had the Caps on. When I emailed George I presented an offer earlier and was asking if we had a deal, the second pm was all in CAPS.... it really came across as I was yelling or demanding, George responded as expected. I looked back and sent an email explaining it was not my intention, and if he took it that way I apologized. George being the nice guy he is, brushed it off and we came to a deal. I was lucky to close a real estate deal during the year and as well receive commisions from my job. As I already contribute to my RRSP savings and watched the market collapse, I decided to take stab at the run. As mentioned all these books came from Rick and George, and they are awesome to work with. The allow time payments and are willing to work with you. With our Canadian dollar close to par with the US$ and with these books being offered to me, I couldn't say no. Having an awesome wife always helps as well. The only book that gave me stress in acquiring was the 28. It's an incredibly hard book to acquire unrestored. I know of a beautiful 5.5, but it was out of my price range at the time. A 3.5 came to auction on comic connect, I thought I had this book won, and was ready to celebrate when a snipe bid came in and extended the auction. 20 minutes later and several bid increments more the book was finally mine. I asked both Rick and George what they thought the going price would be,,,,,, both were dead on. If I find out they were the underbidder... well let's not go there Lastly, we have the grail of grails imo. TEC 27. Rick had one in SDCC 2009 and if not for a medical mishap, I'm convinced I had a good shot at landing it, probably would only have the 27 and 33 but I'm happy with this run. I just need to add a mid to high grade restored book at a reasonable price if that exists. And to conclude this is what makes collecting comics so great from Archies, to tranformers to GA... the thrill of the hunt and the overwhelming feeling of triumph when the run or series is complete. Great story and awesome group shot Andre Thanks for sharing and finally posting it up!
  9. What grade do you estimate the book would be without the restoration? This is the core question for placing a value on books like this that leads to prices varying so widely. I'm toying with the idea of buying restored early Tecs just like this one, but I haven't worked out market values for restored books in my mind enough to actually start buying yet. my general observation, without inspecting the book raw, is that you typically deduct about 4-5 grade points for ext..., 2-4 for mod, and 0-2 for slight... exceptions to every general rule, of course... so, if a 7.5 ext, likely a 2.5 at worse, before resto... putting it at about 12K "unrestored" value (imo) CC sold the CGC 2.5 Trolley blue for $14k my guess is that could be a 3.0 with a little "massage" ...I would value a 3.0 at 14K (depending on eye appeal maybe a tad higher) and a 2.5 at 12K... What kind of massage would it need to get? one with a little moisture and pressure Comics left alone for 70 years deserve to have the special treatment for their longevity

  12. Considering that a CGC 7.5 with Slight resto sold on CC earlier this year I believe for $20k, I think it is "a fair opening bid"
  13. Indeed! You could buy a 3.0-3.5 for that price If we use the OSPG, it sold near guide price. According to the seller, he got full guide. Whatever makes him happy I guess
  14. Indeed! You could buy a 3.0-3.5 for that price
  15. Great book! Back cover or not, it's still one of the greatest comics and covers of all time! AGREED! At least it it still has most of the fc present
  16. Awesome books and story!! Wow can't believe you held it for that long!!! What other keys did you have?
  17. Awesome books fellas! Having a Robinson book from his personal collection is definitely one of a kind and historical! It seems you made a good purchase. I guess the brittle pages brought both of the grades down. It seemed as if all of Robinson's books had brittle pages. When I saw a pic of the three Bat 1's he had and what grades he thought they were, I thought he overgraded. I hope you bought em for the grade you predicted.
