  1. Those creases drive down the grade on a book that otherwise looks very nice. 3.0
  2. I think it could get a 7.5 to 8.0 now and if the press removes the spine ticks, that do not seem to be colour-breaking, 8.5.
  3. Depends if they called the chipping a production error and didn't deprecate it. If not deprecated, 4.5; else, lower.
  4. This example suffered 1 4 grade drop (ie I thought it would be 6.5 but was graded at 2.5) Otherwise, I would give that ASM 49 a 7. It's in much better condition than my well-read copy!
  5. My first thought was 5.5. Agree with those who say 5.0 to 5.5 and for the same reasons.
  6. Pardon my ignorance, but what is Jerry Weist famous for? I think I have a book from his collection without knowing about him.
  7. Just to show that SA Marvel also had some dumb covers... So here we have the Torch who on other occasions has been able to blaze up to "super-nova" heat (as if!) but now having his flame extinguished by a bit of dew! And other people besides Plantman don't let plants roam free... when is the FF going to fight to liberate plants from slavery!?
  8. 4.5 to 5.0 I guess they would take something off for the BC stain, so in that case 4.5
  9. There were so many dumb covers in the '70s by Marvel, usually with the characters making some comment about how some super villain who had been around for 5 minutes was going to kill some superhero who had survived fights in over 100 issues by then, or some superhero who had survived those battles said he was going to die. Or even Medusa here implying she wasn't going to take any time off for eating and sleeping after they see off the unbelievable menaces (!) of Ternak
  10. Well if you actually read the blurb, like I did before I asked the question, it says the State of Colorado seized the collection. I don't see how SoC instead gets abbreviated to IRS. Then they also say CDR made the inventory of the collection. Here it is again:
  11. Ummm... why is it the "IRS collection" when the guy worked for - and the books were sold by - the CDR?
  12. 6 Would have been lower without that off-centre wrap, which saved appearance of spine ticks.
  13. The c and p will make it look nicer, but won't help at all with the grade, which will be determined by those tears. They take it from ~5 to 3, maybe with the press you could get a 3.5.
  14. With such a wide range of grade it would be helpful for people to state their reasoning. For mine, it looks like a 6.5 but that stain would inflict a 1 grade penalty, so 5.5. Pretty good collection you found there!
  15. What's the logic to take a point off for something that will never be seen after it is slabbed.
  16. Those spine ticks don't take it to 6. I have seen them on CGC 8 books. It's 7.5 IMHO.
  17. The crease in top corner takes it down from a 7, doesn't it? The other problems can be pressed.
  18. That looks much better than my copy which I hoped would be a 1.8 (and scored like that by many in the PGM thread). What did CGC see that they graded it only as 0.5?
  19. I just found this thread. Wish I found it about a month ago, which was when I went back to my collection that has been dormant since the '70s to catalog it properly. Anyway, I have been bag-and-boarding all those old comics when I found a few that had Australian prices printed on them. So these would definitely have been from the '70s, not the '90s as stated in this thread. But now I don't even remember which ones they were so would have to go back through about 20 boxes to find them. Also I found a couple from pre-1966 that had pence prices. Most of the comics sold in Australia then had US prices and local newsagents put a 10c sticker over the price. So not sure if these were some UK books that were shipped here so they could be sold with pre-decimal currency pricing or found their way here by some other means.
  20. if only the interest in paying $$$ extended down to my 4.5s...
  21. In fairness, I agree with the OP so I only spent 25c buying my two copies...
  22. @TroyT7986 The pressing could fix that packing curl and maybe get you an extra 0.5. The book presents well otherwise.
