  1. Thanks! Sorry...didnt mean to tempt you there. This is the River City copy. I must admit, that I am quite partial to the RC collection. I have a few Robin Hoods from there and they are simply gorgeous.. Here is a really nice companion book to the TOTU #23 -- another nice yellow Moreia cover -- with swimmers floating in the air!

  3. Oh well..if I wasent banned, I would post the following!
  4. Damn, those are ugly... Why dont you just get rid of those awful things and send em to me!
  5. lots of time left in that auction...it should break $3k... i know i havent bid in a few days...just waiting.... I am not as certain now as I was after the first 24 hours. While it is a hot book, if you look at GPA prices (last 5.5 was $1434 in Nov 2008) and the last noted 6.0 going for $3500 (or something like that) then the market for 5.5s might not be at that level, yet. It will be there next year provided the economy does not tank again (a small pull back would be okay), but here's hoping the prices stay down until next summer so we can load up on a few more copies. (thumbs u BTW, it was interesting to note that a friend who works at my LCS last night (he is a GL collector as well) mentioned that the movie delay/$$ troubles might hamper demand for GL books a bit right now. I wonder if this will have any impact or not. Although none of us are experts in the field of crystal-balling, we've been awake in this biz long enough to safely say that a nice SC 22 is a great long term investment and more important, fun to own. I'm 48 and (had) been chasing one since the 70s. The census report that Rich did confirms this: it's rare, a major character intro, a '59 issue, and low qual PQ. There are 9.2 - 9.6s of the other SA keys available. Some of the Boardies own these (wish I were one). There is no KNOWN copy > 9.0 of S22. It is the rarest SA key. I'll rack up all I can get (within financial reason and whatever Rick leaves for scraps). The 5.5 on ebay is just a tad short of what we call the nice ones (6.0 and up). But it is nice. The movie, to me, helps 22s surface that normally would not. (thumbs u Showcase 22's 50th birthday this month. Happy Birthday Hal Jordan!!! Err - I once had a Showcase #22 with a July date stamp - so a little late on the Birthday wishes. Thanks for pointing this out. You are right, I have done research and found some date stamp copies with July on it. SC 22 was release in 07/59. If we use the date listed on the first page of the comic which is 9-10/59, then it will be the 50th. Heck! Let's celebrate it for the whole 2009. Green Lantern Hal Jordan high lights for this year: Ryan Reynolds cast as GL Green Lantern First Flight release Green Lantern major comic story line Record price for CGC 7.5 $10500 Record price for CGC 5.5 Mound City CGC 8.0 surface Mound City CGC 8.0 sets record price for 8.0??? will a CGC 9.2 surface??? GL movie looses financing GL movie canceled Surplus of Showcase #22's and decrease in demand in the marketplace causes price to tank. Updated that for ya! I used Rip Hunter's time maching to look few months into the future...
  6. With all this talk of SC #22, has anyone been speculating on ALL-AMERICAN #16? After all, that's the real first real app. of GL.
  7. Why you... Very nice books....first #26 cover I've seen...gorgeous artwork...by GK ? Its an all Kubert issue.
  8. Impressive Showcase run. Showcase 22 8.0 is the big one!!! (thumbs u Phooie on your Showcase #22!!! Some of the best covers of Showcase are from that master of time: RIP HUNTER! Great Kubert dino-washtone Kubert Ancient Astronaut cover!
  9. Pre-heros are so overrated...I wouldnt bother with them.
  10. I have some nice issues of Kirby BLACK MAGIC (#1 & #28), including some early art by Ditko...as well as ALL-AMERICAN WESTERN #103 & DANGER TRAIL #4 by Toth... http://boards.collectors-society.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=3422353#Post3422353
  11. Thanks for everyone's advice. As I really don't know what I should ask for maybe I'll take jimbo's advice and put it up on ComicLink. My biggest concern is I'll sell the book and 1) someone will resubmit it and it will get a grade of 9/9.2 as CGC is inconsistant in their grading of page quality (IMHO) and even if they don't change the PQ there seems to be have been a change in standards as some LT-OW books get 9.0 or 9.2 now 2) A pressing wizard will acquire the book and it will be optomized and flipped for a lot more than I sold it for. To put your book up on Clink, might really be yout best option. As of your concerns, as discussed in some other thread recently, the LT pq could be improved, by having the comic pressed by a professional, like Matt. By pressing, not only the pq might improve, but also the grade. He can then send the book to cgc and it might even come back a 9.2 or higher. However, the best way not to be angry about someone else resubmitting the book and get a better grade afterwards, is to do it yourself. Send the book to a professional, have it resubmitted to cgc and then list it on a site or even better, put it in an auction on Heritage, Comiclink or CC. Whatever you do, it´s a very beautiful book! Good luck with it (thumbs u Just curious, but how would pressing improve the page quality?
  12. Wow, nice book! If I owned it I would crack the slab in s second and take in all those crisp toasty pages...White pages are for sissies!
  13. I posted this a month ago when I found it on Metropolis for $170. I guess rusty staples might go for more on Ebay? Hmm..looks like this pic was taken just as the book was being projected into the Phantom Zone.
  14. Great dark blue background by Gil Kane -- even better stories by Kane and Sid Greene.
  15. Nice books Z. That HOS #7 is one of my favorite covers! Here is a newly aquired grail. I have been looking for this lil' gem for quite some time!. Kubert + dinos + washtone = classic cover! Bill
  16. Hmmm. Inst the term " distant local store" an oxymoron?
  17. WOW! Super Rex cover!!! An Aomic explosion AND a T-Rex. Nice.
  18. Magnificent colors! The blue/gray contrasting with that glowing red is truly stunning. And what a great cover image, too. And nice shape. Most exciting book I've seen in some time! Wow, nice Rex cover! I believe it was Julius Schwartz who once say that sales for a book would spike with any covers that had a depiction of a large fire or a gorilla...just think if there was a gorilla at that circus, sales would have been off the charts!
  19. WOW...you never see that issue...VERY COOL! Beautiful copy! Nice Joe Sinnott cover! I really like the red title against the white background... stands out very prominently. The "white background" motif was very popular for Atlas books in the mid-50s. Very few pre-heroes have a white backgrounds -- I guess Stan's color consultants were telling him in the late '50s that brown backgrounds sold better!
  20. Sometimes the tell-tale WM date is a stamp on the inside covers...take the splash from Strange Tales #95 as an example: I would go so far as to say that some of them dont even have a stamp or pen mark of any kind...But I will leave that to the resident WM gurus to determine. Bill
  21. Yeah...the good ole days...sigh... Now that you've said that, I have to get out the big guns...
  22. Here are a nice pair of pre-hero White Mountians for all to enjoy!
