  1. yes. but St 110 sells for a lot less than its first appearance cousins. And not only due to Doc's lesser tier status. But together, they keep the value down. then again, ST 110 is a good spec bet. sooner or later hell be in the Marvel Films lineup, and its still cheap.
  2. It is a smart investment, but I would list the comics in this order as the ones you should invest in a result of this film. 1. All Star Comics #8 - Wonder Woman's first appearance. Routinely goes for well under guide price. 2. Detective Comics #225 - Martian Manhunter's first appearance. A very affordable comic right now to where alot of the people outside of comics are unfamiliar with him 3. More Fun Comics 73 - Aquaman's and Green Arrow's first appearance another comic that goes for extremely cheap prices in my experience 4. Showcase 22 - Hal Jordan's first appearance this comic still goes for very affordable prices 5. Brave and the Bold 28 - I have to go with hero's first appearances first over the team, this issue does offer the nicest entry investment off all the issues I listed and that should be considered. all great books to collect... however, as "investment advice" a bit risky. AS8: yes first WW somewhere in the book, but not on the cover which has limited its appeal for decades. Even a movie will face this problem in fueling value increases, but yeah should the film launch a WW franchise, the sky is the limit. TEC225: had its day. nobody cares anymore and the first SA book crown has slipped off probably for good. MF73: I agree its a great hidden first appearance gem! but unlikely to spark price appreciation. GA has a TV show and people are still yawning for this book. SH22: youve seen the raid price appreciation leading up the dud film? Now this book is hanging on by its fingernails. Even the hot SH22 thread cant stay on the main SA page these days. BB28: to me, the only book on your list worth a shot. It has solid credentials as DCs big team book first appearance, its hard to find in HG, and It has yet to really explode in price. To date only two fools have ever been foolhardy to pay over 50K for a copy! : )
  3. overall I think BB28 is a great book. but your premise that all systems are go due to recent court rulings is off base. The most recent decision blocked the Shusters from claiming THEIR half of Supermans origin/Action 1. the Siegels already WON their half of Superman (as depicted in Action 1 only) and TW still must devise a settlement based on what the Siegels are owed and stand to be paid out of profits going forward. So YES buy BB28. but NOT with any urgency compared to say last month.
  4. I mean as a collector.... Not as an investment. That's always the best approach.
  5. Peewee, gator, David... Great replies. Between them we have both sides of it. All agree it's a great book, but some of us see little financial upside. But who cares? Buy the book!
  6. Why the discrepancy? If it sells for $250K, why is that not its value? In the early days of fandom, whiz 2 and Action 1 went toe to toe, with action 1 being more available in higher grades. Both books hit the 1k mark first. But the new comic that hit the stands in the 80's sold very well the first issue, but lacked the punch of the marvel line, and began to drop off. If they had not brought in the new version then Capt Marvel would of have been the stuff of legend's and would of at least put up a good fight but the new books tarnished the value of the old and hence CM has been lost. As people forget the 80's crapp, the value is gonna come back and big time. For years in early fandom, the Whiz 2 book was so "good" that the second and following issues just did not measure up to that, when they ran the 12 issues or 10 issues iconic battle...they were back and an excellent hardcover reprint book full size in the 80's or 90's. CM has a long way to go, Only a sharp, and I mean really sharp veteran collection KNOWS the only way the book is gonna go is UP. BUT the short, quick sale, double your profit in an instant is not gonna work. It is gonna take time, more time to really let the book find its place in comic book value history. A great long term hold, a great book itself, condition is amazing....the best book of the year by far to be offered at auction. I stick by my estimate 251K, I stick by my value 457 9.0, 506K for 9.2, 539K for 9.4 with 1 million in the future for 9.0 or above, especially if the white back cover is super clean. This is gonna take BOTH a collector and Investor to pull the trigger. absent a hot movie series that wakes up interest in Capt Marvel, the book will always only appeal to serious collectors. based entirely on its faded status as one of comics early mega key books,,,,, like many other faded GA "gotta have" key books from back in your heyday in the 70s. Theres less and less reason to ever expect the values to rise sharply every year that passes. sorry. go ahead and buy another copy. better yet, sell yours now before it loses even more value... though its really doesnt matter for you since you are probably into it for 5K or less. hey, maybe this IS your copy!
  7. M Wow. 30 million bucks... But wait, that's been only 3 mil a year. Puts in a different light.
  8. back in the day, many people attributed Giant Mans lameness to the fact that it was the only character created by Stan. But, being a San guy, I find that harsh...
  9. why would an 80 year old semi employed Ditko have a secretery? Can he afford a full time salary to handle mail and communications he doesnt take part in?
  10. 20k sounds conservative, if we're talking about a run of books. The Tec 1 (unrestored and slabbed 2.5) cost me 14k all by itself, and by all accounts that was a reasonable deal. yeah. 20K is prob too low for all of them including a #1. I was figuring that most people would go for just getting A copy, a beater, around a grand apiece just to get going cause they are hard to locate.
  11. The early Tecs are scarce, special books. They have a small fervent following, and are not cheap. Not the best place to park 20 to 50K in my opinion. But if you rule out the $$$ aspects, they must be a lot of fun to track down and assemble. And have done pretty well value wise. But not in the same league as superhero keys for instance.
  12. I never understood the appeal of a superhero whose two superpowers are razors c'mon out of his fingers and that an damag h suffers grows back. Actually, with razor fingers that second power feels like a necessity.
  13. if thats the case, yeah, we've seen this before. Off with his head then! Ill go cause trouble somewhere else! : )
  14. but most of you buy then flip when you are chasing the next grail, right? Just to free up some cash for the new purchase. its not a crime or it would be lonely around here. and arent books sold on the boards as first "I'll Take It gets it?" Maybe the seller is to blame for not holding off selling while the first guy made up his mind... anyway, as I stated, I havent followed the details closely... but seems around here a real jerk would have started flaming back at his detractors by now if he wasnt genuinely aware he stepped in some doo doo.
  15. Hey, anyone who is willing to continuously apologize for this can't be a total dirtbag. I'm not following this too closely, but what does everyone want him to do at this point? Sell it for what he paid and not a penny more? He got a good deal, is trying to raise money, and has some profit in this book now. What am I missing he? Besides to umbrage and anger?
  16. Good points. I guess I just feel like with the event in issue 100 the series has become different, thus jumping the shark. Personally I have lost interest. Professionally I've had two complete runs get traded in by customers in the last ten days. i guess, from my perspective, having known these characters for only a week. some of them maybe a day or two, 12 years of stories flew by quickly. But to you guys slogging it out over the last 100 months it must be very different feeling to see them die. I dont miss any of them because Kirkman kept repopulating the cast with new people. its funny. i read Cerebus month by month for the last 264 issues. I often got bored and forgot where I was in the story because of the in between time. I always wondered how reading Cerebus felt to the phonebook readers who got to gobble up years of issues in one sitting. now I know!
  17. I recently read all 100 issues for the first time in a week and from my perspective, issue 100s death was just part of the entire storyline. I was watching main characters die over and over... so I had the sense that the original characters would all disappear at whatever point in the story Kirkman chose. and it wasnt a wasted death. it illustrated the danger Dagen poses to Rick, as well as Ricks overconfidence leading into that issue. It was the first time he was really feeing like he had the "new reality" figured out, both the zombie AND human dangers. THIS new threat will harden him for good, maybe turn him into an unlikable character... Which will make it easier for us when its HIS time to go. I think Kirkman want WD to be different from other hero character series. The kind you are talking about where all the heroes are always gonna be around. Even in a zombie apocalypse world... does that sound realistic to you? The anarchic world Kirkman sees rings pretty real to me. People are the real monsters!
  18. Yeah. I did the math too. I think breaking it down to three comics a second undersells the amount of comics they were moving! Three is just too small and manageable a number. 3 per second 180 per minute 10800 per hour 240000+ per day! That's a better selling point IMO.
  19. . If only that we're true, they be caught up on schedule! They're slowness proves the opposite, they're grading the same as always.
  20. I'm still leaning on the credit here goes to the workmanship. CGC is grading the same as it ever was. They grade the book in front of them. This book was improved and is a high 9.0 or low 9.2 Nice enough to have factored in the upper right corner.
