  1. am I mistaken or is that the one from facebook? Yes, it is the one from Facebook. My reason for posting it in this thread and on these boards is the hope that someone will recognize owning the book at one time or another. I'm doing this to try to prove that the book sold to an LCS recently was a restored copy. restored and the person tried to pass it off as universal That's my line of thinking anyway. Have an update for you guys. Another local guy posted on the Facebook page that he saw the book in person at the shop. When he saw it he told them it was a fake but they apparently didn't believe him. He said the book had a reproduction cover on it. They (the shop) have already sent the book to CGC for reholdering. Something tells me that when they crack the book out and open the cover they're going to find a worthless book in there. And they supposedly paid $6,000 in cash for it. $6,000 for an AF 15 4.0?? What store offers 46% of guide for a red hot Silver age mega key. They either knew it was restored and were taking a shot at it coming back blue label or are of the highest order not thinking it suspicious that they took so much less than the value of the book Ed Zachary (exactly).

  5. Yeah Bob. Someone also pointed that out as well.
  6. Also correct. I'm the one that stated that in the Facebook group. I'm trying to determine the overall history of the book (was there an owner prior to this guy, was it a restored copy, had it previously been graded, etc.). I live about 6-8 miles away from this shop and I don't believe for one minute that they were knowingly selling a fake copy of the book. I think they should have questioned it more than they did but that's just my take. The fonts on the CGC label just don't look right to me. And it's been proven that a different AF 15 with the same bar-code number was sold in a Heritage auction on 6/24/12. Here's the Heritage copy: And here's the copy that was sold to the shop: They both have the same barcode number. Notice the label font difference between the 2 books.
  7. saw something similar to this shopped around in a fake slab on Facebook not similar, same book one I saw had a full holder and label yep...this is the book before it was put into a mocked up labeled holder (thumbs u Yep...you are correct. What I'm trying to find out is what this particular book started out as and who may have owned it. Playing detective here....
  8. Does this book look familiar to any of you? I'll explain my reasons later.
  9. I had a buyer walk away over a $2.51. I called them cheap here on the boards and got a 7 week strike. It's a crazy world. Yeah, some people are just serious tightwads. I love when I have a comic on eBay that's originally listed at $3.00 and I have it on sale for $1.50 and I get an offer on it for $1.25. Really???
  10. Awsome score! I'm also one of those crazy fools that leave the house at 3:00 looking for junk. Sounds like you know the drill as well. It makes it all worth while on a day like this. I see you are from MA. Did you make it to Brimfield this week? I was in Brim on Wednesday. For comics I found an FF46 and a Strange Tales 135 for $10 each. Plus I bought a 6ft hammerhead shark.
  11. Problem is Xela never stated #2. Where are you getting that from? I initially thought that but realized wombat was using the 2nd as an example of how it could have gone but didn;t. Yes. Just showing if the buyer was really concerned about shipping how he could have responded. Gotcha. Thanks for clarifying.
  12. Problem is Xela never stated #2. Where are you getting that from?
  13. I've shipped a lot of packages overseas that cost less than $25.00 to ship. What you need to remember is that is usually via 1st Class Mail International envelope or box where no insurance is included. Bcc was quoting you Priority International prices with insurance included which is a lot higher than 1st Class Mail International.
  14. It really doesn't matter where and how the deal was done. A deal is a deal - period. We can argue about symantics all day long, but deals get done in the sales thread itself, in PMs and on eBay. People have been added to the PL or HOS in all 3 situations listed above. As soon as the buyer says "OK, I'll take them" then that constitutes a sale and both buyer and seller need to fulfill their obligation to complete the deal.
  15. Not really so funny Oak. There is the matter of $500 liability here. Pardon my saying so but I have noticed before that you seem to be quite un-moving and not terribly understanding of the difficulties involved when it comes to international shipping. It is exactly the point that can break a deal. No it's not because I'm not understanding of the difficulties. I would however have honored a deal regardless of cost of shipping, because 1) I know shipping is expensive for international shipping 2) I have morals and ethics and would complete my purchase. So breaking a deal would not have happened with me regardless if shipping was 25 dollars or 75 dollars, because I made a deal and my word is my bond.
  16. Thanks Phil. Hope you enjoy the books. (thumbs u
  17. Thanks man. I'm not really upset. I get more than my share of awesome deals, and there's ALWAYS going to be someone there before you. No worries. We hit about 12 yard sales this morning but there was nothing for me. However, I'm sure that somewhere in Myrtle Beach someone had a yard sale this morning that had comics or Star Wars or something... It's all the luck of the draw! I was just having some fun with you Chip. And you have more patience than I do going to 12 different yard sales. I decided a long time ago to stop hitting all or many local yard/garage sales unless they actually advertised "comics". I'm sure I've missed out on some really good stuff, but at least I'm saving a lot of gas.
  18. You have no reason to be upset. That is one great haul there!
  19. Just a bunch of funny books. Seriously - great find! That's one of the things I love about this thread that I created. You never know who is going to find what and where they will find it. It's one big treasure hunt. (thumbs u
  20. Nashville. Would have felt bad getting another Hulk 181 in your backyard. Great find Andy. Gives the rest of us hope.
  21. I believe there were fewer test market cities for the 35 centers as well as a shorter duration. Also, they are much tougher to distinguish from the regular versions compared to the 30 centers which often had a gaudy starburst surrounding the price. Still there are some 30 centers that are as tough if not tougher than 35 centers to find. I had a list of all of the Marvel 30 cent and 35 cent variants. As stated above, the 35 centers are tougher to distinguish because nothing makes them stand out other than the price. The 30 centers however are a different story. The starburst is quite common on the 30 cent variants, but not all of the 30 cent variants are in the starburst - some are in circles and some are in squares. So I revised my Marvel 30 cent variant list to show which ones are in circles, which ones are in starbursts and which ones are in squares. Here's the complete list of Marvel 30 cent price variants: Marvel 30 cent Price Variants (186 total) Adventures on the Planet of the Apes #5,6,7 (5 & 6 in starburst, 7 in square) Amazing Adventures #36,37 (both in starburst) Amazing Spider-Man #155,156,157,158*,159 (155-158 in starburst, 159 in circle) Astonishing Tales #35,36 (both in starburst) Avengers #146,147,148,149,150 (146,148,149 in starburst; 147 & 150 in square) Black Goliath #2,3,4 (2 & 3 in starburst, 4 in circle) Captain America #196,197,198*,199,200 (196 in square, 197-199 in starburst, 200 in circle) Captain Marvel #44,45 (both in starburst) Chamber of Chills #22,23 (both in starburst) Champions #5,6,7 (5 & 6 in starburst, 7 in circle) Conan #61,62,63,64,65 (61,62,64 in starburst; 63 & 65 in square) Daredevil #132,133,134,135,136 (132 in square, 133-136 in starburst) Defenders #34,35,36,37,38 (34 & 36 in square, 35 & 37 in starburst, 38 in circle) Doctor Strange #13,14,15,16,17 (13 in square, 14-16 in starburst, 17 in circle) Eternals #1,2 (both in starburst) Fantastic Four #169,170,171,172*,173 (169-172 in starburst, 173 in square) Ghost Rider #17,18,19 (17 in square, 18 & 19 in starburst) Howard the Duck #3,4 (both in starburst) Incredible Hulk #198,199,200,201,202 (198 in square, 199-201 in starburst, 202 in circle) Inhumans #4,6* (4 in starburst, 6 in circle) Invaders #6,7 (both in starburst) Iron Fist #4,5,6 (4 in square, 5 in starburst, 6 in circle) Iron Man #85,86,87,88,89 (85-88 in starburst, 89 in square) Jungle Action #21,22 (both in starburst) Ka-Zar #15,17 (15 in square, 17 in starburst) Kid Colt Outlaw #205,206,207,208,209 (205 in square, 206-208 in starburst, 209 in circle) Kull #16 (in circle) Marvel Adventures #3,4,5 (3 in square, 4 in starburst , 5 in circle) Marvel Chillers #4,5,6 (4 in square, 5 in starburst, 6 in circle) Marvel Double Feature #15,16,17 (15 in square, 16 in starburst, 17 in circle) Marvel Feature #4,5 (both in starburst) Marvel's Greatest Comics #63,64 (both in starburst) Marvel Premiere #29,30,31 (29 in square, 30 in starburst, 31 in circle) Marvel Presents #4,5*,6 (4 & 5 in starburst, 6 in square) Marvel Spotlight #27,28,29 (27 in square, 28 in starburst, 29 in circle) Marvel Super-Heroes #57,58 (both in starburst) Marvel Tales #66,67,68,69,70 (66 in square, 67-70 in starburst) Marvel Team-Up #44,45*,46,47,48 (44 & 48 in square, 45-47 in starburst) Marvel Triple Action #29,30 (both in starburst) Marvel Two-in-One #15,16,17,18 (15-17 in starburst, 18 in circle) Master of Kung Fu #39,40,41,42,43 (39 in square, 40-42 in starburst, 43 in circle) Mighty Marvel Western #45 (in starburst) Omega #2,3 (both in starburst) Power Man #30,31,32,33,34 (30 in square, 31-33 in starburst, 34 in circle) Rawhide Kid #133,134 (both in starburst) Ringo Kid #27,28 (both in starburst) Sgt. 22. I have all of my nude Dave Stevens covers prominently displayed in our front hallway. I just like to see the old ladies have heart attacks when they walk in the front door.
  23. I was digging through some of my Marvel Tales comics and ended up finding 2 more books with the Pizzazz insert - both are Marvel Tales #87. This in turn got my curiosity up so I did some digging. Some of this information is probably already known to some of you, but I'll post what I found out for those who don't know. Marvel Pizzazz inserts were included in various Marvel Comics from January 1978 to April 1978. Between Google, eBay active and sold listings, mycomicshop and my own copies, I've come up with this list of 34 books that might have contained the Marvel Pizzazz inserts: Amazing Spider-Man 176,177,178 Captain America 217,218,219 Conan the Barbarian 47 Fantastic Four 190,191,192 Incredible Hulk 219,220,221,222 Invaders 24,25,26 Marvel Tales 87,88,89,90 Marvel Team-Up 65,66,67 Marvel Two-in-One 37,38,39 Star Wars 7,8,9,10 Thor 268,269,270 Let me know if anyone is aware of any others. Keep in mind that not all copies of these books will have the Pizzazz insert in them.
