  1. How's this for a great deal? Our local Vintage Stock stores were having a BOGO free sale over the weekend. I'd already dug through the dollar boxes at my usual Vintage Stock store thoroughly so I paid a visit to the one in Edmond. Found this puppy in one of their dollar boxes: And since it was a BOGO weekend, I paid a whopping 50 cents for it.
  2. Next you guys will be taping together cereal boxes. Tape takes money out of the comic budget Exactly my thought, and it would be far more fiscally responsible to use cereal boxes as backing boards. Oh, I've definitely received some of those. I haven't received them as backing boards, but they have been used numerous times as the packing cardboard. I can top that. I had a seller on eBay ship me a comic IN a cereal box. The only protection the comic had was it was wrapped in a plastic bag.
  3. List updated once again. I've added some new people and also re-added the 4 members I had removed because they're in the Hall of Shame or on the Probation List. Under the eBay username column it will state either HALL OF SHAME MEMBER or PROBATION LIST MEMBER and are highlighted in bold and red. Thanks for the suggestions guys. 4. Well, we probably should include the Signature Series 9.8s with the Universal 9.8 counts. Obviously, the signature normally adds value above the Universal, but to keep it simple, you might just use the Universal 9.8 value for both types. Here are the 1992 counts for Universal 9.8 plus Signature 9.8 (or higher): Spawn 1 = 2,265 Amazing Spider-Man 361 = 1,209 Superman: The Man of Steel 18 = 964 Amazing Spider-Man 362 = 911 Amazing Spider-Man 363 = 643 X-Men 4 = 481 X-O Manowar 1 = 369 Wolverine 50 = 283 Rai 0 = 282 Spider-Man 2099 1 = 266 Amazing Spider-Man 365 = 262 Punisher: War Zone 1 = 259 Spawn 2 = 247 Iron Man 282 = 243 X-Force 11 = 220 Rai 1 = 219 Harbinger 0 Pink Variant = 207 Uncanny X-Men 284 = 195 Spider-Man 26 = 193 Spawn 4 = 185 Shadowman 1 = 181 Uncanny X-Men 288 = 181 Superman 74 = 173 WildC.A.T.S. 1 = 154 Spawn 3 = 152 Rai 3 = 151 Unity 1 Gold Edition = 149 Harbinger 1 = 143 I kept the list going until I got to Harbinger #1 (it's 28th). Thank you for this list. I suspected that Valiants comprised some of the most-slabbed books of 1992. This list confirms that 4 of the top 20 most common books in 9.8 are Valiants. A notable omission is EW 4, which may simply point to its relative rarity. As stated before, I'd prefer EW 4 to Rai 0. This also demonstrates that Rai 4 is indeed harder to find in grade than Rai 3. That's correct as far as the census goes. Rai 3 has 151 total 9.8s whereas Rai 4 only has 77.
  5. There are some not so good comments about coasttocoastcomics over in the Bronze Age heating up on eBay thread.
  6. It's like you found a few grand at the bottom of your sock drawer... Between the 6 auctions that ended Sunday night and the 6 auctions that ended last night, I'm averaging about $45 per book so far. And I still have 9 more auctions ending tomorrow (Thursday) night. (thumbs u I've noticed so far it's not 12 different buyers. One guy on Sunday night bought 3 copies and another guy bought 2 copies. Then last night just one guy picked up 5 of the 6.
  7. Batman #357 (1st Killer Croc) about to shoot up.... https://go.madmimi.com/redirects/1427829714-00d674d1c122c98f3b23d24a4a5fd54b-1894577?pa=29315833375&amx=7068528760&l=aHR0cDovL3d3dy5jb21pY2Jvb2tyZXNvdXJjZXMuY29tL2FydGljbGUvYWtpbm51b3llLWFnYmFqZS1yZXBvcnRlZGx5LWNhc3QtYXMtYmF0bWFuLXZpbGxhaW4taW4tc3VpY2lkZS1zcXVhZD91dG1fY2FtcGFpZ249YWtpbm51b3llLWFnYmFqZS1yZXBvcnRlZGx5LWNhc3QtYXMtYmF0bWFuLXZpbGxhaW4taW4tc3VpY2lkZS1zcSZ1dG1fbWVkaXVtPWVtYWlsJnV0bV9zb3VyY2U9YnJlYWtpbmdfYnVsbGV0aW4=
  8. Nice lil pickup I was wondering if you could post a pic of the file cabinets you mentioned you use for storage. Very interested in seeing them Here's a pic showing one of the 36" wide lateral file cabinets with a drawer pulled. I can go 5 columns wide with the 42" wide cabinets.
  9. Another nice purchase from yesterday. Drove to the east side of OKC to pick up some cardboard boxes and had a little time before meeting a guy about buying some lateral file cabinets. Stopped into a small comic shop and was very surprised to find some of these in their long boxes: ASM #256 (1st Puma) in high grade Captain Marvel #14 (1st Kamala Kahn, 3 copies) Captain Marvel #17 (1st Kamala Kahn as Ms. Marvel, 2 copies) Civil War #2 Deadpool: The Circle Chase #3 (1st full Copycat) Superman #652 Rai #0 Robotech #1 Total investment was only $30.00. I got all 5 of the Captain Marvels for cover price. The Deadpool: Circle Chase was $2.00 and the Rai #0 was only a buck.
  10. The "main" part of my comic collection is in lateral file cabinets in my office (3 4-drawer, 2 2-drawer) along with a standard 4-drawer file cabinet and a 2-drawer. More are stored in about 15 4-drawer file cabinets. The rest have to go in about 50-60 long boxes and 20-25 short boxes because I ran out of file cabinet room. I am meeting with a guy this afternoon with the hope of buying 2-3 more lateral file cabinets. I LOVE those for comics storage and hate having to keep some in the standard file cabinets. As I obtain more lateral file cabinets I'm selling off the standard ones. Do you use legal size upright cabinets? You can get two rows across in one of those. Just wondering what your preference is to the lateral. I've thought about buying some legal size cabinets but my preference is still the lateral file cabinets. You can get 5 columns of comics in a 42" wide and 4 columns in a 36" wide lateral file cabinet. Regular width file cabinets don't work very well for 2 reasons: 1) If you center your column you have a lot of unused space on each side 2). If you center your column and DO choose to put some extra books sideways on each side of the column, you take a chance on some of those side books catching on the frame or track as you pull each drawer out. It's happened to me a few times but never again with the lateral file cabinets. By the way, I did work out a deal yesterday and I have 2 4-drawer and 2 2-drawer lateral file cabinets being delivered either this afternoon or tomorrow.
  11. Six of my X-Men #244 auctions ended tonight. Realized prices ended at $37.00, $39.00, $42.50, $48.00, $51.00 and $52.00. Six more auctions end Tuesday night and the last 9 end Thursday night.
  12. Finally found time to post my Wednesday purchases from 3 different area stores: 1st stop - Second Chance Books 2nd stop - All Star Comics 3rd stop - Vintage Stock Total investment for the day (all of the comics above) = $145 And I FINALLY found a Superman Adventures #5 (1st Livewire) in the wild.
  13. I've made 2 fairly large (quantity of books) purchases over the last 10 years. The first was about 7-8 years ago when Mike Forrester (flatrock02, who passed away a couple of years ago) Talk about a punch in the gut at 2 AM. I had no idea. I bought all his X-Men #240s and #205s maybe 4 years ago. I still have 'em, every single one (except maybe one #205.) Mike passed away in Nov. 2012 due to complications from a tumor they found in one of his lungs (I believe I got that right). He WAS a heavy smoker - as soon as he put one out he'd start another one. Sharon (skypinkblu) ran a fundraiser thread here on the chatboards shortly thereafter. He was a hard worker though. He had a regular job at a tooling manufacturing company in Rockford, Illinois and also had a couple of side businesses (machine repair and comics of course). How he found time for all of that AND his family I'll never know. I'm sure he didn't sleep much. He and I met at an auction in Northern Illinois about 11-12 years ago when we were bidding against each other on some comics. He introduced himself after the bidding stopped and we became Comic Collecting Cohorts after that. I included Mike in that Chicago find because there was so much and because we were good friends. I knew he would appreciate being included. I still send his daughter Mackenzie Scooby-Doo comics when I can find them. Just picked one up the other day. I think she's like 12 or 13 now. Hopefully, I can keep doing this until I'm no longer here.

  15. I've made 2 fairly large (quantity of books) purchases over the last 10 years. The first was about 7-8 years ago when Mike Forrester (flatrock02, who passed away a couple of years ago) and I bought out a shop in Chicago. There were a bunch of short boxes in there full of Copper Age Marvel and DC comics along with some older books. There were anywhere from 10 to 70 copies each of books like Marvel Super Heroes Secret Wars #8, ASM between issues 260 and 297 and Uncanny X-Men between issues 197 and 257. A lot of those books are just now coming to fruition - X-Men 244, X-Men 221, X-Men 213 and so on. The 2nd big purchase was for about 10,000 mostly Copper and Modern Age books here in Oklahoma about 3 years ago. This collection also contained big quantities of multiples and is also just now starting to pay off with certain books - X-Force #19 is just one example I can think of. So sometimes, you just have to take the dive and be patient. For me, it's starting to pay off in the long run.
  16. I just checked all 9 of my raw copies and they're all like they should be. Sounds like you have an error copy due to a press misfeed. (thumbs u
  17. 'It's the one book I've been looking for' Hi Nick. I'm always looking for cheap Mark Jewelers insert books....
  18. If I sell all of those 20 (which I believe I will), I still have about 30-35 NM+ copies left - many of which will find their way to CGC. I'm not the least bit concerned about flooding the market (although I thought Chadwick's Flood sign was funny as hell).
  19. All 9.4's In reality, I've only submitted 3 of these to CGC. One 9.8, one 9.6 and one 9.4 - no pressing. I would think now is the best time to unload that truck so to speak. I agree with you completely. You'll see a batch of these on eBay shortly. (thumbs u I just listed 20 NM+ 9.6/9.8 copies of X-Men #244 on eBay - 6 3-day auctions, 6 5-day auctions and 8 7-day auctions all starting at $9.95. We'll see what happens.
