  1. Just picked this beauty up #209 with a Frazetta cover.
  2. A new addition to my collection about to go out to CGC.
  3. Frazetta, Stevens, and Baker were more like guys who knew how to capture , not opps - wrong fruit - should have used a more "melon like" icon...
  4. Wow, this was a cool string to stumble onto. Would never have guessed such geat artwork existed in Romance comics. And to think how many of these I passed over with a snear when I was a youngin. Thanks for exposing (literally) these to me. Frazetta, Stevens and Baker - 3 guys who just knew how to capture, well you know...
  5. Ya. I've bought a few CGC slabbed Warren's from them. They've actually have had some decent deals. I'll have to revisit this. P.s. I started another string about this, to try to revive this sleepy board topic.
  6. Let's wake this topic back up - Vampirella #3 (Warren, 1970). CGC NM/MT 9.8 WHITE BIN for $4,750.00 on Heritage! Sounds like crazy-money to me. http://comics.ha.com/common/view_item.php?Inventory_No=800025874
  7. Nice. Of the 25 or so raw books I sent in only one scored a 9.2, there were a few 9.0's, 8.5's, a lot of 7.0's and the a few surprises in 5.5's and even 5.0's. I'll eventually upgrade the lower grades to 8's or 9's.
  8. Is there anything better than coming home to a box filled with Warren's back from CGC? As it relates to this forum, these were all picked up for reasonable prices, but they show like gems. I feel there's going to come a day when these books are discovered again. Right now though, I can buy all this for less than what I paid for one GA book. And even if they aren't worth a fortune, they look great, so who really cares. Better for us folks who are looking to find them.
  9. Wow. I heard Jim Warren was not doing well. I guess he's feeling good enough to go out in public, but would he sign books? I wonder also if CGC will try to set up a SS session with Warren, and is there any inside info on that?
  10. truly wow - didn't know about the movie. Must look into that one...
  11. This is true. Pity all the amazing artwork that appeared in Warren pubs has meant so little to the longevity and the popularity (and as a result, value) of the brand. You would think with amazing covers by Frazetta (that are still being reprinted today), Kelly, Sanjulian, Morrow, and artists like Berni Wrightson doing truly ground-breaking artwork in stories like Poe's "The Black Cat" (Creepy #62, Wrightson's first full-length story for Warren) and "Jenifer" (Creepy #63) that these books would still be treasured today. It'd be nice to see some of the original Warren artist's working again. I wonder if they're going to be involved in the relaunch. As an aside - a single page by Wrightson for "The Black Cat" is in a Clink auction with a starting bid of $17,000 (which I happen to think is a steal).
  12. I will be interesting to see if the revival of the Creepy and Eerie titles by Dark Horse will bring in new blood, and perhaps create demand for the original Warren editions. This link has some info: http://www.ifmagazine.com/new.asp?article=4795
  13. I think I just soiled myself... Those are priceless Makmorn.
  14. The upside of it is of course, good books can be had at decent prices. Just picked up this nice copy of Creepy 32 tucked away in a lot.
  15. Point well made. I didn't mean to suggest the market is in the tank. I started buying Warren's with Frazetta covers, not to make a killing on the market, but because the covers are simply priceless. If I never make a nickel profit, they still bring me plenty of joy.
  16. Holy , I was wrong about C-link not being the place to find (or sell) magazines. I didn't realize how many Warren's C-link had up for sale. And some of the prices are low, not overlooked by someone who bought all the high-grade CGC Warren's up. Example: VAMPIRELLA #2 , CGC 9.2 NM- $225 - which I think is low.
  17. I dunno - I assume you lost some money, so I don't blame you for feeling that way. But I don't really think magazines are completely dead, per se, when there are slabbed books that are selling for multiples of the guide. I do however think everything (except maybe super high-grade, unrestored Golden and Silver Age) is selling for less. Definately the economy is having some impact. I follow the major GA dealer discussions on these boards (they are very educational), and it does seem like their buying has slowed and sales don't seem as brisk as they were a few months back. See a lot of them passing on offers to buy books (they normally would be looking to buy) from other boarders. I also think it has a lot to do with luck, who sees the item and bids on it. I'm no expert, but I never really looked for magazines on Clink, becuase they mostly deal in comics I don't look to find them there, so maybe you didn't get the crowd that would have bid it up. I wouldn't have known those WOH's were on Clink, if I didn't see it here on the board. I do think it's a bit randow - who sees your item, if they need it, if it's slabbed (or not). There's a lot of good deals on unslabbed magazines on ebay. If you're willing to take a chance that the seller's grade is accurate, or if no specific grade is stated (like in a lot of books) then you can find a "deal". But there are also lot of slabbed magazines that were up on ebay that recently bidded up pretty high. Luck of the draw, the right people saw it on ebay, and they bid hard. I had a slabbed GA Wonder Woman up on ebay, that I paid over $200 for. When I upgraded and sold my copy, it sold for about $70 (next time put a reserve on it dummy). Why did I end up giving it away? I theorize that I just didn't get the right crowd bidding on it. Yet, at the same time comparable (or less than comparable) books sold for triple that or more. A few months prior to this, I had to beat many, many competing bidders to get any slabbed WW's. It was like there was a bounty on them and everyone was hunting.
  18. that just proves there are forces beyond our control at work...
  19. Just georgeous artwork Makmorn. Even the signatures look incredible. cd4ever - I've gotten reasonably priced, nice condition copies on ebay from Kirk at the_monster_emporium.
  20. Oh and you're a lot of help! of course I'm kidding.
  21. Just beautiful. All these beautiful Sens covers. must resist starting new set. must resist. must resist.
  22. I will, but I never have found anything you didn't already know about
  23. I don't know, maybe it's the economy. I heard the investment books are going up, up, up. BTW, those WOH's of yours are real nice.
  24. oh-mi-gawd look at all that golden-age goodness from the tek27kid... wish I could help you with that Sen #85 Crippen. I have a few early WW Crippen's but no Sens.
