  1. Bumpage of this old thread, instead of starting a new one. I picked up a Library of Congress stamped book and recently had it graded in my last submission. For some reason, I thought CGC noted this on the label. I could have sworn I have seen slabbed books with the notation. I had listed it as such in the pedigree field on the submission form but I guess it is not noted. Still cool regardless to have the stamped copy. I know I can ask CGC but this gives me a chance to see if some might have a slabbed book with the notation and if not, post pictures/scans of any LoC stamped books you have - raw or slabbed. Here is the one, I just got back
  2. Are you sure that isn't from your long lost relative from the royal family in an obscure third world country wanting to share the family jewels with you as is their tradition? Just saying, could be... Or could just be Spam, Spam, Spam, SpamSpam, Spam, Spam, SpamSpam, Spam, (Lovely Spam, Wonderful Spam!) Spam, Spam
  3. -Jungle Comics #137 (1951), a well played
  4. I always ask how many pages to make sure at least it is complete. Just recently a seller had a GA book on ebay and when I asked about page count, I found out the CF was missing. I told seller who thanked me and ended the auction but I also told her the book was still desirable as long as she noted the missing CF in the description. It closed at $233.50 just a few days ago. The book was Speed Comics #34 and I told her she should change the description title to include WWII Alex Schomburg Cover which she did - her original didn't have any of that except it being WWII. I also pointed her to the GCD for information about the issue. It was nice she ended the auction quickly, took some advice and still made more than she could have imagined. Comics were not her usual ebay listings. So always ask about page count. The first thing I do if I buy a raw is count the pages.
  5. Seems like lots of different interpretations of fandom which was posited to begin the thread. Some consider it synonymous with history, collecting, creator contributions, pedigree collections, etc. The definition of fandom is "The state or condition of being a fan of someone or something; and/or The fans of a particular person, team, fictional series, etc. regarded collectively as a community or subculture." Not saying any postings or names are wrong or shouldn't be considered, just perhaps, some may fit more appropriately in a different category of the hobby/industry. Still nice to see the thoughts and names being mentioned - they all have contributed to bring this hobby to where it is.
  6. fearsome creatures of all kinds to cuddly creatures of all kinds
  7. Can't say I am a big fan of the series but I do have one book. Nothing special, outside it being one of the first GA books I purchased in the earlyish 1980s.
  8. Ken Shannon in Police Comics to his own title
  9. I noticed I mistyped the grade of the conserved copy sale on GPA, it was a 5.5 not a 1.5.
  10. I should have added "complete GA book" to my statement but for a couple of bucks even with the 3 missing pages plus whatever shipping, someone most likely may grab the book you have listed. Lots of good books in your sales thread. Apologies for thread derailment.
  11. Yeah I can't think of any book from the GA I would not give a buck for. I now see it the same book as in original post. Good luck with the Ebay listing, be interested to how it goes.
  12. I have seen it for sale before. If you are interested and haven't looked, the issue is mostly indexed on GCD - https://www.comics.org/issue/4266/ A few slab sales on GPA with the most recent, a conserved 1.5 in April, 2016. The other recorded sale is an 8.0 in 2012. I didn't look at the census to see how many have been graded. One currently on Ebay now - http://www.ebay.com/itm/Very-Rare-Harry-A-Chesler-KAYO-COMICS-12-first-and-last-issue-Jest-Carnival-/252909839264?hash=item3ae299e3a0:g:T~cAAOSwdjNZBkOo
  13. Here are some of mine - The first grouping of three Supes are at CGC now - they are Kellogg's giveaways. The next is a Mighty Midget that you don't see too often and last one is the lowest grade example of the Pocket which I think is one of the more common of those digests (especially seeing all the ones in this thread).
  14. I assume stories from Greek mythology are not what you're looking for Shield and Wizard were together in Top-Notch #7 in August, 1940.
  15. This is an all-win thread. Thanks for sharing this and coming to the boards. I am happy you were able to get the book and connection to your father.
  16. Yeah, I added G.B in a later post. I thought about Roy and certainly would not argue his contributions. Looking at early fanzines and early sci-fi/comic shows and cons the others in many ways were founders. All great names being mentioned and regardless of anything else did much to bring the hobby to where it is now.
  17. Raboy along with Lou Fine were the two artists that inspired me to collect GA books after I discovered Alan Light's reprints of Captain Marvel, Jr. and The Black Condor/The Ray, respectively. Still marvel at both.
