  1. When I saw Dave Steven's Rocketeer, I thought he was the modern-day Frazetta. Obviously the story/plot was appealing to me since I love the old serials but good lord, the art seemed to hark back to the good art of the GA and not the un-fluid, overly exaggerated art of the 80s+. And yes I know not SA but it did have Nazi spies, after all.
  2. As others have said, it is a shame this has happened and I have interacted in some way with both parties, either in the marketplace or through another forum here. All good interaction. I am no lawyer and don't even pretend to be one here or after staying at a Holiday Inn Express but I do not see how either could definitively their argument as to where the damage occurred. I personally could not vote one or the other. I do feel that both of you made hasty errors by submitting a positive response either from David when the book was first received or Eric when first asked about the damage and return. In hindsight, it would be best to ensure that you review all and ponder a response before writing something. Kind of like the "say it forget it, write it regret it" saying. Good luck and either way, it is too bad such a nice book was damaged in any regard.
  3. I agree. They are picking up speed I think though. Here is one I picked up recently. Really liked the cover on this one.
  4. Not necessarily comparative but I read the story this morning about finding a trove of Nazi artifacts in Argentina this week. They had been locked away in a secret room of collector. Who is to know what is left out there either in hands of folks knowing what they have or not knowing like used for wall insulation or at the bottom of old trunk. I too lean to more than is suspected than less.
  5. My other favorite artist that I first saw as a strip creator (in addition to Raymond above) is Hal Foster. Again, not mine but I had tagged quite a few images of both artists. Here is a great one -
  6. That may be my favorite Wood cover, Jack. From Strange Worlds to Menace from the Lost World
  7. I heard they were making a new high budget Captain Gallant of the Foreign Legion with Brad Pitt so buckle up to start cleaning those warehouses Seriously, I have wondered why the early ACG sci-fi and horror books don't get more love. Some do have intriguing covers. I don't collect them and at least the few issues I have read, the stories are pretty stiff.
  8. I thought I saw someone looking for this in the WTB not too long ago.
  9. Great art and talent. While I usually lean towards Fine, Schommie, Cole, and other great artists, how about kicking back a bit further to Alex Raymond. I don't have a copy of this vintage movie poster but is one of my favorite movies
  10. Hi Robert I don't collect moderns or really anything later than 1975 and personally think chasing and paying for a slabbed 9.8 of book that was just released with high print runs is not much fun but people collect what they like which is fine. I can't imagine a seller pre-selling with a definitive guarantee of a 9.8 slab is a non-money making venture. Didn't Dre get out of the guarantee 9.8 business and also Miracle Comics who used to do it - maybe there are still some out there but seems risky. Would be interested to see the seller's terms and guarantees.
  11. Kev always has such nice books - these are great
  12. If it an attempt of CT, it is horribly done. I would toward some liquid damage/stain too. Not to say it might something else going on with it as a whole but I vote no on CT to that area. It would obviously negatively impact the grade.
  13. Jon is a great teacher with so much knowledge. Not only did I enjoy his contributions to publications like Alter-Ego and CBM, I learned and gained so much insight from those articles.
  14. That is probably true - EC was something kids read without their parent's permission under the covers back in the 50s. Now that type of content as opposed to being a societal taboo back then is watched together as bonding time within the household, given as gifts to kids, accessed easily online, toddlers may even have horror-themed sleepwear, etc.
  15. PM Fedoraman - he is a boardie here and does great work. Here is a link to his thread and you can shoot him a message. I am unsure what the cost is now since the first post is this thread is from 2012 so most likely some price changes. https://www.cgccomics.com/boards/topic/261260-comic-reproduction-covers/
  16. Whew, i got nervous when I saw Arch quote one of my posts before I read the post. I was thinking wrist slap or time-out.
  17. Well I started the post and was going to say the Masked Marvel run may the only Centaur run I have completed - 3 issues but then thought nah, it's just better to point out Gator's innate abilities, enhanced even more so by Coke Zero Cherry And thanks again for telling where my keys were, I was running late already
  18. I believe the Masked Marvel ru I think Rick is endowed with superhuman detection and location power. I sent him a PM once because I couldn't find my keys. He told they were behind the living room sofa. I looked and they were there.
