Darwination
I wasn't familiar with it either (and honestly couldn't make out much Baker). It's a St. John. There's more images from the auction here: https://www.ebay.com/itm/135062666868 Point Five

It looks like Baker... inked by someone else... drawn with his non-drawing hand... on the subway ride to the publisher's. BOOT
On 5/24/2024 at 10:14 AM, Darwination said: The Baker tells are faces, fingers, and form. This has all three. Baker worked fast in a smaller format to create almost an animated style for this story. He obviously looked at Wood's Western Crimebusters work. This is his Western action mode, a different style than the slick romance stuff for which he is known. Only one 2.5 on the census, Most will never have the chance to hold and read this squarebound pocket size graphic novel comic book. Anyone else have a copy? My beat up copy was purchased for 1/20th of the price about 10 years ago. One comes up for sale every now and then. Slash-D Doublecross is not listed in Art of Glamour. Overstreet lists it, and shows no Baker credits (as per the 50th Edition, the most recent one I own). Grand Comics Database says the cover pencils and inks are by Matt Baker, but incorrectly credits Baker with pencils on most stories and adds, "Art looks like Matt Baker layouts." Again, I own this issue and have examined every page. The cover might be by Baker, but there is absolutely nothing inside that looks like Baker. Nothing. Midget Comics 2 (Tex West Cowboy Marshall), also published in 1950 by St. John, contains the same lead story “Hell Bent for a Funeral”, which GCD credits to Mike Arens. Apparently, someone has paid a Matt Baker price for a book full of Mike Arens art. St. John's Midget Comics #1 published the same story Range Law Rides to Town/Lead Flies in Buffalo Bend in February 1950. Here's a link to the issue at Comic Book Plus, with details as to why the art is believed to be by Mike Arens: https://comicbookplus.com/?dlid=48290 Matt Baker was busy turning out impressive, stylish work for St. John in 1950. For example, It Rhymes with Lust. I don't see the art in Slash-D as being in the same league, but will enjoy hearing what you and others think once you see the whole piece for yourself.
