Yes.  Rebound books inside that "new" cover wrap.  I believe there are a couple St John giants like this.

I have a raw copy and I'll research which books are bound in it and report back. Coincidentally I also got my copy from MCS. Who would've thought MCS would be the top auction house for acquiring this ultra rare Baker!

My guess is that it's another Chiriacka.  Baker appears to have swiped at least a few of his images.  Chiriacka is also first generation American from Greek parents - so might explain why his work is on a Greek magazine.

Is this true?

It's a mass market Greek magazine.  That's a ridiculous claim.  While I haven't chanced upon that particular issue, I've seen various issues come across my ebay emails in my searches for old magazines, and I'm not even looking for them :691460725_armsraised:

Sure, it may be hard to find, especially for a non-Greek, but give me a f'n break.

Found 20 or 30 issues on German eBay from that exact era, a little sample.

Beautiful covers.  I swear people like to take advantage of Baker fiends.  Chiriacka deserves all the love he gets, as he had a long career in the pulps and magazines.  David Saunders has a nice article in Illustration #8 from 2003 on him (and iirc he was an uncle figure as a friend of his dads).

Saunders' entry on Chiriacka at his pulp wiki

For the 2,500!!! dollars that seller is asking for that magazine you could have bought an an excellent original Chiriacka recently

I mean, I admit I get some weird schadenfreude from watching Baker nuts separated from their cash in instances of questionable attribution, but c'mon, now, that's just rookery

If we start tonight, can we make 'first Baker horse cover' a thing? I'd like to make that happen.  :wishluck:

8.0?!!  Wowzer

I always wonder what each copy has on the inside.

My copy has these issues inside:

  • Teen-Age Romances 7 (Nov 1949)
  • Teen-Age Romances 8 (Feb 1950)
  • Teen-Age Diary Secrets 8 (Feb 1950)
  • Adventures in Romance 1 (Nov 1949)

Well anytime you see the words "Only known copy" you know that you're not dealing with someone even vaguely interested in reality.

I do have a Giant Edition duplicate and decided to compare directly:

Wish I had dupes of that #12, but this one has a Canteen Kate issue stapled in the last position:

I think I prefer the Abbott/Costello issue stapled in position 2.  Only the second comic inside is variable and both share the same first and last.

What's inside your copy?

Is yours different from the GCD index?  I wouldn't have guessed that particular issue.  I don't think I made notes on mine before slabbing.

I only could upgrade 3 books , even though I bid on 30 or so ,,, so strong showing I thought.
