Canadian Price Variants

414 posts in this topic

I really would not consider the Thin Ice book a Canadian variant, as it say's on the cover: $1.25 VALUE, indicating it was a giveaway.

Not the same thing as the previously discusssed Canadiann price variants.

This coming from the guy who bought some "$0.30 (or is it 35 cents?)" Bronze Age price variants at the last local con. lol

That was PRICELESS!!! ;)

I had read every page in this thread a few months back and found it very informative. I just got around to scanning a book that may cover some new ground on this topic.

This book was purchased off the stands in Norridge, IL (Chicago suburb) at the Harlem-Irving Plaza (can't remember the name of the book store in the HIP at the time). I don't think Norridge is that close to Canada that it would qualify as a border town where Canadian editions would sometimes find their way into the US. IIRC, I was buying Grendel #1 when this book & Doc Strange #78 (not pictured) were staring at me. I believe all the copies of each book had the same condition and they were the only two titles on the stand to look this way.

Has anyone else every seen the Canadian editions with a 75-cent sticker placed on the book? Any idea if it would have been done by the distributor or the bookstore itself? I know a few posts had hinted that the Canadian books would come to the US on accident or if US editions were in shorter supply, but the placement of the sticker leads me to believe that this was more deliberate than accidental.

Nothing that's going to shake the hobby, but I thought some might find it interesting. Thanks to everyone who has shared their knowledge on the subject.

Never saw that before but its looks like something the bookstore would do?

I agree. Looks like the store was shipped a few Canadians by mistake. Bookstore probably re-priced them in line with the rest of the US copies.

So, in this thread, has there even been a single "Canadian Price Variant" posted? lol

Seriously, I didn't think that Marvel produced any for up here, other than the usual CAD newsstand and direct copies, which were priced consistent with our currency and market.

Joe if I understand what you are trying to say correctly then there is also no such thing as a 30 or 35 cent price variant as all 30 and 35 cent comics are priced as such and would have to have some other different feature to make them variants.

What I'm saying is that to my knowledge, there are no (or very, very, very few - like that misprint 25-cent Avengers or something) actual Canadian price variants.

They just don't exist, 30/35-cent or otherwise. These books are just Canadian Editions - nothing more, nothing less.
