Trying to bring this chat to life again

I finished the Marvel set a few weeks back. It was a good feeling finally completing the set. There are still a couple that I'd like to condition upgrade, but all the heavy lifting is done. :D

I have a feeling the key Snake Eyes books will be going up soon with a new movie looming on the horizon, so anyone thinking about collecting Joe books right now should probably look into getting some of those first.

Besides 1, 21, 26 and 27 what issues do you think will get attention?

I doubt Zartan will be in the movie, even though he’s integral to his origin in the original comic run. What else is there? Hard and soft masters? Jinx?

As far as Snake Eyes keys, 93 and 133 will probably get some attention. They're already fairly well known among collectors, so they'll be tougher to find for cheap. And 144 is completely under the radar as far as I know, but it has potential. Late release with a low print run, and it's another story about Snake's early years, and gets into some dark family stuff. I doubt that a modern movie will go into his Vietnam years, they'll surely retcon it to something more contemporary, but I can see them using his same family history.

As far as 1st appearances and all that, I honestly can't keep track of those. There are so many Joes. Hahaha, But there's a great database on yojoe.com that covers every issue: https://www.yojoe.com/comics/marvel-comics-gijoe-a-real-american-hero/

Over the past few weeks I have been considering working on the run again. I still have the key snake eyes issues and 75 and 100. However I sold all of my first 20 issues and 154-155. I am a reader so none will be slabbed. I will post some here and hopefully bring some life back into the thread.

Sounds like an awesome idea - seems like an awesome run to complete.  I might post a few of my recent pickups too to help get things moving :)

Nice books!  I would love to one get a 9.8 of Issue 21. Envious and jealous.  :)

Thank you!  I was slow to get on the Joe train.  The only issue that I paid “a lot” for was issue 21.  Compared to today’s prices it was a steal.   I should have bought more, lol.

For those that are fans of Mike Vosburg's run on G.I. Joe (issues #9-23), you may want to tune into the CAF Live Art sale that I'll be doing with Mike and Bill Cox on Saturday June 12, 2021 @ 10AM PT/1PM ET.  He'll be taking questions from the audience throughout and talking about his art.  You can find out more about the sale here https://www.comicartfans.com/galleryroom.asp?gsub=217347, but as a teaser, we'll be selling a special G.I. Joe cover recreation that Mike drew specifically for this sale.  This is only the 2nd G.I. Joe cover recreation he's ever done so hoping some lucky Joe fan will get it!

Only got this one but it's an awesome Zeck cover! :cloud9:

That's one of my favorite covers in the entire run. I decided to pull mine out to take a look, and I noticed that all 3 have different colored backgrounds, green, tan and grey. Interesting. 2 of them are otherwise identical newsstand printings as well. My "black spidey" copy appears to have the same grey color as your Canadian newsstand.

Notice that the shading in the green copy is much more pronounced across the face and the fingers. The tan copy's shading is barely noticeable by comparison.

Very cool that the #9 had the tattooz insert.  Just noticed other books that month had them too other than ASM and FF.
