I read somewhere that the star stamp means the comic went overseas for our military personnel to read. I think that's cool if it's true!

This Captain America Comics #37 that I saw online made my heart hurt. Is there a point at which a comic book should just be given a proper funeral and recycled?

Thought I’d post these as I never see original Alex Schomburg sketches come up . These sold as a group on Heritage for 9600.00 USD ( 9” x 13” ).

Those Schomburg sketches are awesome! It's tough to find any artwork from a Timely artist. I commissioned these Namora Covers from Ken Bald around 10 years ago. These are the only pics I have of them at this time and the pics were taken with the protective overlay still covering them. Ken did them in pencil, which as you know smudges very easily, so I left the overlay on until I could get them framed. Namora #1 was my first Golden Age comic book and the very idea that I could get a recreation by the original artist made me BEYOND happy!

I also commissioned a recreation of Namora #2 at the same time as I did the #1. My only regret was not having him do a #3 for me as well, but I only had so much money to work with at the time, and I couldn't afford it. Sadly, he passed away a few years ago, so the opportunity is lost to the ages. However, I AM very happy to have gotten what I did from him!

Thank you so much! I really appreciate that!! Not everybody really "gets" original art, recreations or sketches like they do comics. It's nice when others appreciate the effort that the artists put into their creations! Also, as you just stated, collecting artwork is an expensive hobby, as most of it costs hundreds at minimum.

Wow! That is incredible! Hopefully you have the framed comic right next to it on your wall. That would be amazing.

Thanks!!! Actually, neither of the recreations are framed yet, but that IS on the to-do list this summer!

I can't tell from your reply if you're the lucky bidder or just sharing images from the recent auction, but assuming you're the new owner ...and apologizing in advance for assumptions on my part... I'd recommend matting and framing those beauties under UV resistant plexiglass as it'll enhance the presentation and increase their value.

Congratulations, signed Schomburg original art is indeed rare. These are awesome examples and worthy of framing and added protection from the elements. Although undated, these are an order of magnitude better than most pro sketch art.
