That's AWESOME Billy Boy!!!   Ya know Billy, for a mere $5, CGC will snap an excellent professional quality pic of it for you ...    unless blurry, glare shots are a part of your artistic style on that'un.    ANYWAY, congrats on the upgrade and spiffy new golden pedigree label!!!

Wanted to share my most recent Timely pickup, from Planetcon in KC last weekend.  One of my favorite MMC covers.  Hole punching aside, has amazing colors and gloss.  And don't sleep on those interiors!  Here are some killer splash pages.  Severed heads, gator fights, werewolves... Timelys are rad.

Picked this up today. 1944 and with Simon and Kirby on the CGC label(?!). I found an interior and it has to be the Cap ad. The Bucky panels look like S&K work. Here are some splashes.

The ad is the only thing S&K could possibly have done.

Cap definitely looks like Shores in the ad, but I was looking at this Cap 4 panel and the pose seems similar to the Bucky pose in the 1944 ad. Could the Bucky paper drive panels been prepared just before S&K left Timely? I'm not acquainted with the timeline of this ad or when it first appeared. I've seen the early Cap ads but I don't remember the paper drive panels.

Maybe the Cap 4 panel is the rare Cyrillic interpretation. 

For instance, in this revised twist of a Shore's cover, a right backhand becomes a left forehand, ...a difficult maneuver even in tennis! 

S&K left Timely in late '41 ...in rather unceremonious fashion... so it's doubtful any of their art was reworked. Also, paper drive campaigns weren't even on the U.S. radar till mid-'42 or later (we didn't officially enter the war until the month after S&K were fired by Martin Goodman). Nevertheless, it's probably worth noting Shores worked on the first 10 issues of Cap under S&K as an inker along with Reed Crandall, Al Avison and perhaps a few others, so there's definitely a connection. That said, to me the Bucky pose doesn't look anything at all like a swipe or a leftover.

I agree that the Bucky panels might indeed be Shores. Shores was there from the beginning and he could mirror Kirby's style quite well. Just so odd that CGC would list art by S&K in a 1944 Timely. Bedrock theorized that perhaps Kirby lettered the ad but would CGC call lettering "art by S&K"?
