Seeing the thread about the "trimmed" Marvel Mystery made me want to post my Cap 39 which is badly mis-cut and mis-bound. All other Timely's I own are about 1/3 of an inch larger than the Cap.

The interior pages are not large enough (see pictures 2 and 3) and some of the art is cut due to this.

On top of this 2 centerfolds are slightly larger then the other pages and are creased (see picture 4).

I'm wondering if mis-cuts like this occurred often in WW2 Timely's or not (I'm no specialist on the subject).

I have not seen any super hero Timelys cut quite like this before but I have seen a couple of their funny animal mags with horrendous miscuts. Still, it happened to every other publisher of the time so I wouldn't be surprised if it happened to Timely superheroes.

Do you still have one of those copies of Marvel 5 ? I'd love to see it ..So much better than Marvel #1...Too bad Marvel 1 wasn't a better cover..

Didn't Kirby not Ditko draw the cover for Amazing Fantasy 15? It seemed patterned after Cap #7...

 

You were probably asking Richard. I don't have a copy of MM #5 (yet).

 

Kirby redrew the cover of AF #15. Ditko's cover was rejected by Stan Lee due to an awkward pose. I can't recall where I saw a reproduction of Ditko's version, but Jack's is far more dynamic.

 

There may be a vague similarity with Cap #7, but the poses and action scenes are entirely different. In fact, the cover of AF #15 seems to have more in common conceptually with Superman #1.
