PROBATION DISCUSSIONS

I feel sorry for the next person to bring up a potential probation list issue. :ohnoez:

I've had about one dozen non-paying buyers in my time here and zero motivation to bring it up for probation discussion.

Why? So they can go and renege on someone else?

So, what, all of a sudden you're into maintaining a sense of community?

The process hamstrings you for 30 days and, frankly, if someone doesn't want to follow through on a purchase I have no interest in forcing them to complete a deal.

I haven't yet run into any similar issues but I tend to agree with your line of thinking. You force them to complete the deal and then they can just turn around and return the book anyway, perhaps even damaging it in the process.

We're in the process of forming a 356 member committee to deal with that

I could demand equal representation for females and lower that number for you;)

Gotcha. Understandable.

It does penalize the seller in cases where the buyer is a flake. Might be some solution, without over complicating things ( :wishluck: ) where there can be a tire kicker/dooshknuckle/flake buyer list where the seller doesn't want to wait 30 days to let the boards know about potential bad buyers. (shrug)

Anyhoo, I now require 2 of your LTPC points.

The demand line has a 47 day wait.

We are forming a committee to form a committee to speed up wait times.

The committee's first meeting will be in July.

I'll send them to you in 30 days and, if I don't, you can bring it up here for 97 pages of discussion.

The 30 day wait period is miserably oppressive for sellers.

We've been discussing in the CG thread about lowering it so sellers aren't held hostage waiting that long before they can nominate a would-be buyer and move on and sell their book.

Which year? Do I automatically get an invite? Who is chairperson? So many questions.

No more screwing around. One hour for payment. Two days for shipment. Immediate hall of shame induction even in cases of force majeure.

Not a chance! I want same day shipping. If Amazon can do it, so can you!

I proposed something recently that would tighten things up for things when a specified date is stipulated (longer or shorter than 30 days) This got little positive feedback back in November but the discussion occurred around this POST

The rule verbiage is there & it probably needs some time added in addition to the 72 hours I noted in my rewrite - then intent was "agree to a date then miss it w/no communication = default" :insane: )

I've always thought 1 b) was too forgiving to non-paying buyers & the rules don't address anything for sellers wanting quicker payment.

Today's Rule:

30 Day Rule 1 b) If the transaction is agreed on by both parties to take longer than 30 days - for example, a transaction involving time payments over a longer time, the 30 day clock begins from the time the agreed upon conditions were violated.

A Tighter Rule:

30 Day Rule 1 b) If the transaction is agreed on by both parties to take shorter or longer than 30 days - for example, a seller requiring payment in 48 hours or a transaction involving time payments over a longer time; in these instances the 30 day clock is waived once an agreed upon payment time has passed - a 72 hour PM notifying the buyer of your intent to nominate to the probation list will serve as the grace period.

A few months ago a buyer agreed to buy a book from me. Then the days started to go by. Then the "Paypal is giving me fits" pms started. Then several I need a few more days pms were sent. Then others started reporting canceled paypal payments from the same buyer. Then there was an e-check along with an email stating "it might not work". I canceled the deal and sold to someone else after at about 15 days, because I was sane and wanted nothing to do with the buyer.

Then there was some discussion whether my selling to someone else was PL worthy because it was before 30 days.

You can guess who the proposed buyer was. Rhymes with Dudmuck. I felt bad about how it went down, but my decision clearly was right on.

I agree that in these circumstances I want the buyer to go away.
