Nah.

Probation List.

There's no indication that he intended to commit a fraud and steal the money. He had successfully completed some sales in the past. My guess is that he listed the book much lower than it should have been sold for and started seeing all of the comments - wow, great book at a super price! You could have sold it much higher! Let me know if the deal falls through, I'll gladly pay more! - and he got cold feet.

Then why not just return the money?

There's actually no proof that he had any real sales. He just marked his old books sold. I do think it's possible he just wanted to steal someone's money. He did have pp issues in the past as well, evidenced from his prior sales thread. Either way, this guy/girl is a tool!!!

:gossip: Interest free loan. Dan pays him $1250 on let's say May 1st. Dan doesn't realize something is weird/wonky until at least a week (if not more) and then files a paypal dispute. It takes Paypal 7-10 days to investigate and give the accused time to respond. Now we are 17 days out that the accused has the $1250 and can do as he likes with it. At this point Paypal rules against the accused and reimburses Dan. However, Paypal sends an email to the accused saying "Hey we ruled against you, if you think this was in error please contact us. We will be debiting $1250 from xxxx account 2 weeks from now".... Basically he got to borrow $1250 interest free for a month. Great if you have short term cash flow issues and you need the money to tied you over for a week or two. Much better than a payday loan.

A loan like this does carry a considerable interest charge, if one counts their reputation as of any value.

And I think theft is an appropriate term here. It doesn't matter whether there is a third party refund, and whether he is forced to pay it back later to Paypal, money was taken under false pretenses, there is no way of knowing if he assumed or even cared that the buyer would be made right eventually, I see no basis for giving him the benefit of the doubt. 2c

Plain and simple. It don't matter how he got it or who from, he's a lousy thief.

None, unless he comes back on here with one of the greatest stories since " Frisbie " on the Twilight Zone.

I would say that since there has been radio silence regarding this from the buyer, we can't read anything into intent (maybe he had a car accident and has been in the hospital all month, maybe he is the scummiest scammer of all time, none knows for sure) I think PL is appropriate for now unless he comes back and says something that indicates something different is needed.

And as to reputation, he had none, so nothing to lose.

I think in this case, Spidey, you should send AlfredP a separate just PM informing him that his nomination for Probation List/Hall Of Shame is being discussed in the Probation Discussions thread. Ask him to come to this forum to give his side.

After you report back, if we hear nothing in 72 hours I will add AlfredP to the PL list.

It has been over 72 hours. With all do respect, this guy never had any leg to stand on. He not only didn't reply, he tried to evade at all costs, deleting messages, changing his name, and deleting himself from our pm thread. He deserves the probation list at all costs. I've never had a problem like this, and hope no other boardie has to go through this. My money has been refunded fortunately. He did not reply at all to paypal as well. I suppose we all know why he had paypal issues. I will not publicly post his/her info, but I will provide any info I can through pm to ensure he doesn't scam again.

Thank you to all the boardies who supported me in this thread or through pm. I love being a part of this community.

Actually, you certainly SHOULD publically post his full name/address so if he tried to sell under a different account (or on ebay), we can all know to avoid him.

He is a thief, there is no reason to not fully expose him for what he is.

If others want to PM me, I will gladly share any info I could.

Let us not forget, that he DID post in his WTB on Saturday, almost one week after the sale. By then, he had gotten two or three PMs from me, and chose not to read them. Therefore, NO MATTER what excuse, he has NO leg to stand on.

Ya we should add all the personal information to all of the ppls on the PL/HOS list including their bank account numbers, what their favourite food is and what they read when taking a poop.

Yep. The got hit by the bus defense would be slightly more believable if he hadn't first changed his board name and post a full week after ignoring PMs from the buyer.

And if he did somehow miraculously come back with a valid excuse he could always be removed from the HOS.

Thanks Harvey. Only had my tablet (Fire HD 6) with me when I checked in today. Trying to update the PL from a tablet is like, well, trying to update the PL from a tablet.
