I was saying a Mystery Box is just that - a Box...and the contents are a mystery!

 

In the end some will hit a homerun and get an ASM300 or NM98 or whatever else is thrown in but many will get decent, not amazingly great boxes, worth around the purchase price.

 

Do people that purchase mystery boxes believe that the are guaranteed an ASM300? Do you think Jason would be able to sell at a profit or even break even if that was th case?

 

Basically anticipate breaking even and nothing more and maybe you'll be presently surprised. I think the problem is when people place unrealistic expectations on a mystery box purchase that they WILL hit a homerun and not may.

 

I don't understand how this is viable long term. If everyone pays $150 and is "guaranteed" a minimum $150 value, but there are a few winners who get $200-300 value, how is that tenable from a business standpoint? Unless we are talking "Retail" values? In which case, there would be a lot of butthurt....

So long story short (a bit late for that) there seems to be a pattern of trouble here. I do not think you can fault buyers for buying from a thread that was revised and deleted multiple times as no one knows for sure why those threads got deleted. I assumed it was due to wording and not the concept, or else why was the final thread allowed to remain?

 

The part in bold is what I'm still not clear on. Can anyone shed light on how or on what terms this thread was permitted to go forward? I am not making judgment, I am just curious and a little bit confused.

well if you have a business that is inventory heavy and cash light, and need an influx of $$ its a very low effort way to move lots of content quickly with little effort.

 

Or you are working with a finite space and have decided its more feasible to clear inventory than rent more storage/retail space.

 

It's not viable as an ongoing business model, but as a one time event it can work depending on your goals...

From talking to fellow bord members not all have received there MB or Myster envelops or there free MB. I feel a lot people who participated are not being vocal because they are afraid if they do get anything it will be sub par. I never personally bought a MB before but decided to take a chance because of all the positive remarks. I understand that not everyone can be winners but people should get at least value in the amount of the box they paid and get everything promised to them.

 

I'm sorry but I had to stand up because I felt people were to afraid to do so and hoped this would make people come forward. I'm happy I did and I agree MB need to be banned.

Is it always implied in MB's that one should expect to at least get the amount put in? How can a MB seller make any money that way?

It's June!!! So once again I'm here celebrating my Birthday by having an awesomely awesome sales thread. So let's treat this like a party! Party! Party! And of course, What's a birthday thread without gifts??? For those that were here last year I'm sure you can remember all the fun we had with that thread. This year's thread will have a gifting round where I will be giving birthday presents to other people both buyers and non-buyers, much like last year. Thread will also have other giveaways! Maybe the most giveaways of any thread I've ever ran!

 

Birthday Presents

Two qualifiers on Birthday Present so pay attention!

No purchase necessary to participate in the gift round all you have to do is post a HBD message on my actual birthday (June 29th) and post somewhere else in the thread during the month to state you want to be eligible to claim a birthday gift! There will be a list of all available gifts to choose from posted between now and June 29th. Claiming of a Birthday gift can not start until 6:36 PM Central time on June 29th! For those of you that recall last year, this is the same time that the gift round started in that thread! This year I'm turning 35 so I kind of want to do it up big!

EVERYONE who wants a freebie will get a freebie as long as they do the two things listed above. 1. Happy Birthday Message on the Birthday and 2. Post at least once in this thread.

I've met a lot of great collectors, made a few friends and it's just been a lot of fun! Summer is here and I'm ready to get some books from my house to yours so HERE WE GO!

 

Sales Rules

No HOS or Probation, I may also decline to sell to you if I've heard terrible horrible things about you while you were not in the room. I kid I kid, but seriously no Probation or HOSers! Stupid HOSers!

 

Price includes shipping inside the US. All other locations please contact me for a quote on shipping. All packages will be insured for full purchase value and all packages will be sent with at least purchase price value of goods inside. Nearly all boxes will consist of comics, maybe sometimes some action figures, omnibuses, tpbs etc. Majority will be single issue comics unless you specifically request comics only be sent.

 

If there is a problem with your purchase for any reason whatsoever then you are invited to contact me. If I'm not responsive fast enough on the boards then e-mail me directly at the address I give for payment. I'm always happy to work out any issue.

The Mystery Boxes

I offer three levels of Mystery Box, the Mystery Box (MB) $150, the Deluxe Mystery Box (DMB) $500 and the Super Deluxe Mystery Box (SDMB) $1500. With that said, being that this is the birthday month and it's time to party, let's also bring in the GRAIL BOX!!! (GB) $6,000. Box will be shipped in a USPS Flat Rate box. Either Medium or Large.

That's not everyone either. I purchased one and he never put my name on that list. I've received an invoice and paid though. Received a shipping notification on July 8, but still haven't received anything and the tracking hasn't showed any updates. I hadn't thought much of it until I saw this update from everyone. I get life happens though, so not too worried.

This is what Arch posted on the rules thread.

 

Just a reminder - raffles are not allowed.

 

If you are spending more money on something than it's worth in the hopes that you will be the advertised "lucky winner" to get the secret package that is instead worth more money than you paid, then you are gambling. Raffles / gambling aren't allowed.

 

Even with a basic give away, (e.g. give you a shot at a prize when you buy their stuff) companies are usually held to a "no purchase necessary" requirement by law. So people can "sign up to win" even if they buy nothing.

 

Frankly, I don't know all of the ins-and-outs of the laws regarding this kind of thing so the actual moderation standard will be something like "if it smells like a raffle / game of chance / lucky few give away, then it's out."

Hi fellow board members. I am not a person to stir things but I have found the actions of one of our board members inexcusable. This person is Comicalgems. As part of Comicalgems MB celebration many promises were made and many went unfulfilled.

Hello, you guys are getting this message because all of you were early bird buyers on my Happy Birthday Mystery Box thread.

 

I don't know why they keep deleting my threads, I had a talk with Arch about raffles, lottos, etc a while back and he said it's like legal liability that they just don't want to risk. So I get it, sort of....I mean would it have been as big of a deal if I'd said "Okay anyone who bought from me already can get this book at $150 instead of $1.50? Who knows for sure?

 

Honestly though I'm not really here to try to press the envelope or ruffle feathers I've just found a great venue for these sales so I like to run them here.

 

I've had very very few complaints and I've sold hundreds of these over the last year. Every complaint is resolved and usually results in repeat business so yeah....anyway, back to the point of this message.

 

You guys all were early buyers so I want to make sure I take care of each of you with a little something extra. I don't have enough copies of ASM 300 to sell to you all at $1.50 each though I wish I could. But I wanted you to know that I am going to come up with something and it will be good, I promise.

 

Now, do NOT delete this PM because this is where I'll offer any extras, like I might do reveals here a half day befor I put them in the thread etc, you guys are basically going to get the VIP treatment if the mods will stop deleting my thread.

 

I've sent you all invoices. I was hoping to have one of yours end in 1.50 but I don't think that'll happen just yet.

MB where not shipped to multiple members. When questions were being asked the following response was received.

 

I had that computer issue last week. Then this week I had my car keys stolen. Locksmith had me tied up pretty badly yesterday. I hate thieves, stole $20 cash and cost me over $450 to get squared away.

 

Shipping notices should start arriving in email later today.

Some of the packages for members arrived but everyone was promised a min value of the MB they paid for. One comment from a boardie for his package

 

Congrats rittau. I myself was very disappointed with this whole experience. Maybe I'm alone in my thoughts and feel free to ignore this. I really, really wanted to like this sale but things were not delivered as promised. Keeping payment for a month before shipping out books is ridiculous. No business would do that. Even after getting confirmation because someone questioned the delivery, it took over a week to go out. I was told ASM300 would go to someone in this group thread and I didn't see that happen. No other special deals were offered up like promised. And I find it very difficult to see how my MB is worth $300, or even the $150 I paid. I received one semi-key book in bad shape that sells for $20. I realize the many misfortunes you stated in your previous posts (but you did collect a lot of money that could of helped w vehicle and computer) and I know not everyone can be winners, but make a better effort to come through on the promises. I don't have to win books at cover price, but it would be nice to see someone win. Personally I will consider this a lesson learned.

Just got logged into my paypal account, and can verify that I have not printed your shipping label, saw your message earlier but I was certain that you had asked me to hold your shipment and now I'm going back through my PMs and it looks like it was two other buyers that had asked me to hold, at any rate I've obviously not had the best run on this sales thread so I can either print a shipping label for you or offer a refund, whichever you prefer is okay by me....Apologies for the confusion.

I took the refund and advised that I could no longer do business with him. The response that came back

Although I did not care. A promise was made to send the MB out. To this date I have no received anything. The shipping lable was created July 8. It’s still in that state.

 

For all the inconvenience the seller advised everyone would get a free mystery box. This has not happened for any board member to my knowledge from the noise I here.
