If anyone knows of boardies in the Milwaukee area let me know. There's an estate sale tomorrow with a bunch of good books (JLA 1, FF 48, etc) and figured I would give them a heads up.

FYI - I went to this estate sale. I actually knew about this way before this post, as Rcheli had asked if I wanted to go. I decided based on the books that I would head up there the night before to avoid a long drive very early in the morning.

Rcheli couldn't make it so it was just me and the CEO

Wife and I both got there, and I started the sign up sheet so I was #1 on the list to go in.

Got our numbers at 8:30 like the website mentioned, then went straight for the comics at 9:00am. Grabbed the box, while my wife went to go pay.

That's where things went to...

Hopefully you got the books at a decent price - shame about the others. Hard to find any real decent estate sales in my area. If they have decent books - they are well overpriced.

Bout to go to a swap meet soon. Hope I can pick up at least a few comics like you lucky gents always do.

Be sure to pick one or two derks for the *cough* comic gods ;) . Wishing you all the luck!! (thumbs u

Luck Lady, please sent your luck to spideyfan78ct! :foryou:

Well… No dice guys. There was only one vender with comics at all. He had 3 long boxes filled with the typical 90's stuff, Cable, Wolvie, Gen 13, etc.

Closest thing to valuable was a Hulk #270 and an Alpha Flight #16 (Vol. 2)

Would've been nice to walk away with Rocket and Big Hero 6 appearance but, oh well, next weekend is a larger flea market :)

it seems the person running the estate sale got several calls about the big books and a buyer who wanted to buy "4 books" so she decided it was best to combine all the keys in the pictures and sell them as an auction.

nowhere was this mentioned in the ad, and it took me and the other person there buying the comics by complete surprise.

I asked if there was a buy it now for the books, she said no but I was welcome to throw an offer. The current offer was $1450.

I looked at the books, the JLA 1 had water stains, some of the other books had foxing.

The FF48 was a VG at best (lost of spine tear, tearing at the staples)

In summation, not worth the $1450 bid price IMHO

I looked at the books in the box (that I had taken), split them with the other collector who was there buying books (he was very happy) and left.

I was upset that we wasted all that time trying to buy books that were unavailable for purchase but did walk away with some books

I hate it when that kinda happens. I went to a yard sale two weeks ago where a guy was selling his collection and had posted the list of what he had beforehand. When I got there a lot of stuff from the list was missing. I asked and he told me two guys had emailed the night before and demanded he pull aside a chunk of the list and reserve it for them. He ending up selling an Ulitmate Spider-Man 1, the whole 2000s Harley Quinn series, and a load of Deadpools all for .50 cents a book. The seller and his wife were super nice and said the emailers were really aggressive and not knowing what to do they just held the books for them.

I really hate that too. I have driven distances just to find out they sold a day or two sooner and the ad still advertises them for sale. When I try to say something they act like they can't understand what I am saying.

lol

a few things I should mention. I wasn't that upset (as I would normally would be). I think my wife being there probably helped the situation.

The nicest part of it all was the guy who had showed up after me and was hoping to get some of the books. I had initially told him that I was going to buy everything but I would be willing to split some of the books since he had come from a long way also (both of us traveled about 1 hour and a half)

we talked about a lot of stuff, mainly comics etc. He was so happy that I had split the books that were there between us. He had insisted that I take some additional money which I declined. He told me that in the past year he had lost his job of 18 years, gotten divorce and had been diagnosed with cancer.

I met a fellow collector and a possibly a new friend to talk/discuss comics. Best of all his name is Stan!

The other great part is that I was always intrigued by the 'Mademoiselle Marie' books, and I finally picked up two. The art is so great. Very very happy despite not getting the main books.

I had been emailing a guy for a few days about some low grade keys he has, I finally met up with him and grabbed these three for $85. This guy was solid; he's a musician and we he had a lot in common...talked hockey, dying in yoga, comics, a few other things. I'm still very interested in some other books he has, so I'll probably be in touch.

Flash forward to Saturday I had been emailing these guys about a bunch of comics listed. They had an Uncanny 100, which I was really only interested in...

I pull up the X-men, and was like, WTF is this 10 p? These guys were a couple dudes that were really nice, and it quickly dawned on me this was a UK variant. I know very little on value of foreign books, and my interest dropped a lot at this point, so the guy who's comics they were was like, 'how about $50 for everything?' I needed a few of the ASM for my collection, and there was also another 30 or so misc. comics I can sell at my next garage sale easily (simpsons, spiderman, first five issues of Alpha Flight, etc.). So I'm like sure, what the hell....

I just noticed X-Factor 5 is a price variant?

Sunday Morning...having gotten home at 3 a.m. from a long poker session, I decide to venture to a garage sale that had comics advertised (which I never do). I get there probably 30 minutes before the close and see a long box that has some Trades and floppies. I flip through the box and notice these books....

I'm close to selling big runs of both Web and Spectacular locally, and after seeing about 40 issues of the later that I needed (and a bunch of webs), I was interested when the guy's gf came over and said he just wanted to get rid of them. As I flipped through a few more trades (easy quick seller at the garage sale), he's like $25 for the box. I had only went through a third of the box, but figured I couldn't go wrong. Plus I was having a good comic-picking weekend...I made a crack about getting that hernia I always wanted, and loaded the box into my car.

Here's the trades...I've seen the Batman Guantlet book has sold for good change on ebay? I might keep that one in my collection, also 6 of those books are hardcovers in beautiful shape!

Batman Arkham Asylum is probably your best book pictured if that's the hardcover.
