is there still a $3. credit charge for processing the card? hm

Wow, hefty fee!

The fee is a percentage based on the transaction amount (and whether the card was swiped or keyed-in) - there's no $3 charge.

Is there a maximum fee amount?

So you go to a garage sale and pay by credit card? hm

I'm sure this will never be used to steal anyone's identity.

Very cool, but I'll stick to paying for the used vacuum cleaner with cash.

Is this another one of your metaphors for paying for oral copulation performed by a well seasoned prostitute?

For a long time they were actually not shipping the reader (or were having problems getting the reader out to people).

They may have fixed that issue though.

Agree. VERY cool technology, but I can't imagine anyone in their right mind wanting to swipe their credit card on an adapter plugged into a total stranger's iPhone at a garage sale, farmer's market, etc. You have to assume that legitimate business owners (even small ones) will have legitimate credit card technology installed - and that those who don't will have a very tough time getting anyone to pay for anything via a manner as bootleg-looking as this.

Pretty much every dealer that I've seen at a show who takes credit cards uses one of those hand-swiping machines - where the numbers on the credit card are imprinted onto a piece of paper. Compared to that, squareup.com is a lot faster, a lot more secure and looks a lot more legit.
