Girl Who Played with Fire was much faster paced than Dragon Tattoo. I enjoyed it much more than the first book. It was tough getting thru the first 100 or so pages of Tattoo with all that dry finance junk. :P

Dragon Tattoo has begun to pick-up. The sadistic rape scenes really helped kick things into post-GRRM gear.

Wonderful. Another writer who feels that he needs graphic rape scenes to tell his story. :eyeroll:

Recommend me a Stephen King book other than "The Stand" please.

11/22/63 and Bag of Bones are my personal favorites. Green Mile, Insomnia, and It are also good.

I picked up Bag of Bones and Salem's Lot.

Read the book and you will see why. I thought the rape scenes fit the story line quite well in this instance based on the main character Lisbeth Salander!

Started reading Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, I just read the first 5 chapters. Someone bought me a great hardcover with glossy paper perfect to show John Tenniel's drawings of wonderland!

This will only be the second time i read this book! :o

I thought the rape in Tattoo was far more graphic than any of the GRRM stuff.

Has she confronted the guy about it yet?

Yes, she has. I finished the book. It's deplorable.

The brutal rape scenes we just mentioned hardly had a thing to do with the various plots in the book. They served no purpose other than to entertain with obscenities. To my repulsion, they were nothing compared to the nastiness in the big reveal near the end. This sort of thing is the worst kind of pornography.

I think it was dude's first effort & that shows in the last 100 pages where he attempts to wrap-up the many secondary plots all in one quick shot. I suppose at 600 pages he felt under pressure to put an end to it. Other than that, the stories are complex & well crafted, structurally.

The lead characters, in fact all the characters, are very well drawn & convincing. Very nice work.

You know what else I found deplorable, though. This book is garbage. May I never see the movies.

Finally, I wasn't too keen when Catholicism took some occultist shots. lol lol lol

After I read it, I was kinda like "huh, what's the big deal?" as it was the book everyone was reading. It was OK. The second book was alot more entertaining, although it was very far-fetched, IMO. I started reading the 3rd one just to complete the trilogy, but then just put it back on the shelf. If I ever want to know how it ends, I'll just wiki it.

I started the Hobbit (as I've never read any of the LOTR stuff), but really haven't got very far.

I need to find my copy of Dance with Dragons. I moved a few months back and cannot find the stupid thing. I'd like to finish that one up. I was about 200-250 pages in, so I'll have to restart it whenever I find it.

That's always the followup I receive. "read the book, it makes sense" I have no doubt that the writer felt it was necessary to write it that way. I just don't want to read accounts of rape, fictional or real. It's just not something I want to do, regardless of how well it works in the story.

Dance with Dragons was good, but not the best in the series. I read all five books just recently. I wonder when The Winds of Winter will be finished?

The back to back rape scenes in the early part of the novel were pertinent to nothing.

The author could have established Salander's aversion to creeps in an unlimited number of alternate ways.

Dude was writing an obscenity for its own sake & every person who has or hasn't read this international bestseller should know it.

It's rotten tripe.
