Popular Post grendelbo
So I finished rebagging and reboarding my BA/CA Amazing Spider-Man run covering issues 150-350. I also took a look at my Simonson Thor run. I ended up rediscovering quite a few MJ inserts. Beginning with books around 1985 or so the MJ inserts dried up. I think it's partly because I began buying new books at a LCS and also because with more recent back issues I had choices of multiple copies - Direct or Newstand. I usually chose to buy the direct edition, preferring a Spidey head or Mjolnir in that little box over the UPC code. I still do. Mostly. I'm sure to find a few more of these but I sold and gave away many 1980s runs about a decade ago (Fantastic Four, Hulk, Spectacular Spider-Man, etc). With what I have left it'll be a little like finding a needle in a haystack. (Many pics to follow - I like how these variants, well, vary.) wormboy, ganni, ADAMANTIUM and 5 others

These issues would've been purchased between 1985 and 1990, when my hobby was in it's infancy. All these comics were in bags three decades old or more. Except for 5 short boxes of keys, that's true for a large part of my collection. My collection is long overdue for some archival upkeeping. I've never seen this stamp on more than 1,000 jeweler variants. So I don't know. But here's another theory. There are reprints of Batman 237 and 241 listed on Mile High Comics website (none in stock). Many years ago both reprints were called "National Book Store" variants on the Mile High website many. I assumed that "National Book Store" was just a second-hand store like Goodwill or some other second hand shop. So this stamp could belong to "National Book Store"... in other words, the second hand retailer. The Batman 237 reprint is now called "Goodwill". Per Jerome Wenker (one of the godfathers of variant collecting) these Batman reprints were made for the Philippines. Since Jewelers were mostly sold in military PXs, I wonder if that has something to do with it. p.s. I love @Get Marwood & I's cat. Maybe he has the answer but just won't say. Here's the Goodwill Batman #237, reprinted by JMC Press for distribution in the Philippines by Goodwill Trading: I've not seen that NBS stamp on any of the Philippines reprints myself, let alone the US originals. Ganni will know more. ADAMANTIUM, wormboy, Cpt Kirk and 3 others 5
Popular Post ganni
Best educated guess for me would be NBS may stands for Naval Base Subic. Stores here must have bought it there. There were military bases here. Clark Air Base and Subic Naval Base. And must have run out of star stamps ... Popular Post onlyweaknesskryptonite
If it does stand for National Book Store, then the "-ALI" may be... The National Book Store located in Quezon City, Philippines as it is located in the Ali Mall.
