Metropolis *spooned* me

Just to put this in perspective.

By my reckoning, using the 2011 Overstreet, a 7.0 Mary Marvel 17 lists for $111, while a 5.5 lists for $68.

So, the original poster has started a thread for a book that (1) he bought two years ago (2) now isn't happy with (3) has refused an offer of a refund for an ungraded opinion value of $43 - for a book that can be bought in 4.0 slabbed for $75 right now - which means the BOOK value of a 4.0 is (roughly) $30.

This is just ridiculous. Really? You're going to start a thread on a two year old purchase, complain, AND THEN TURN DOWN THE OFFER OF A FULL REFUND?

What, exactly, do you want Metropolis to DO for you? They've already done far more than anyone in their right mind would normally do. doh! I'm not the biggest Metropolis apologist in the world, but I will send the original poster the $43.

Anyway, I checked up on this -- he's right, there was no scan, which is not unusual, since at the time we were drowning in unscanned books and have since caught up, which is nothing short of a miracle. I don't have a record of him having requested one, but this was sold back in 2009, so I may just not have searched properly. I'm disappointed he hadn't contacted us right away, as we could have resolved things pretty quickly, as this was a raw book. We accept returns for any reason on raw books within 10 days of the customers' receipt of the book, just for the record. Without a scan of the book, I can't say for sure what the issue might be, I'm afraid.

Also, folks, you can always contact us with problems directly! Email, phone call, carrier pigeon. We won't bite, unless it pays well. I check my email with almost psychotic frequency, so I usually respond pretty quickly. And as for scans, we have someone working full time on nothing but scanning books, so even $2 cheapies are getting scanned for the site. We're adding 300-500 books a week to inventory, which means we're invariably behind a bit, so email or call if you don't see a scan for a book you're interested in, we'll try to get it pulled and scanned as fast as possible. The only exceptions are books which are off-site or consignments for which we have to badger the seller, but 95% of what's unscanned on the site, I can get you an image pretty quickly by request.

I think that should answer everything. I am now crawling back under my desk for a well-earned nap. Play quietly.

Well, when you complain about a company on a message board and they show up to give you an explanation - doesn't get much better than that. Hell, I'd probably do future business with Metro simply because Frank cares enough to address a complaint. Kudos to Frank and Metro.

Other than this one experience, I don't know Metropolis comics. On another thread, I see that others have had positive experiences with them. That is definitely good.

I had a negative experience.

They did not disclose information, namely staple rust and foxing. If I had known, I don't think would have purchased the comic book.

They made off with a little bit of extra money.

Which they have offered to compensate you for, and YOU HAVE REFUSED COMPENSATION. Again, what do you want Metropolis to DO for you?

Please make sure it's on the condition he refrains from said douchebaggery in the future.

Otherwise, you're just rewarding bad behavior. :makepoint:

Let me see if I have this straight:

1) You contacted Metropolis to buy a book.

2) You don't ask for a scan of said book, even though you see it's just a stock picture.

3) You then receive said book, and disagree with the grade.

4) They offer a refund, but you really want to keep the book, despite it upsetting you enough to come here and complain about it.

5) Now you start a thread to complain about the grading of a book, despite the fact that it couldn't be so bad since you are going to keep it.

Are you serious?

I mean, this is just completely and abjectly stupid on the buyer's part. You were lazy or careless in not asking for a scan, we have no idea what the book looks like, and now you are here demanding a response from Metro.

I'd rather jump off a cliff than be a full time dealer and deal with like this.

DON'T DO IT, BRIAN!!!! :ohnoez:

I can only speak from personal experience. Frank is always a stand up guy to deal with and for the op to flat out say that he doesn't trust him based on this non story is just plain :screwy:

No, it was the hair that made him suspicious, we've already established this.

It doesn't matter how long ago Metropolis put the falsification to me

Quoted for linguistic awesomeness.

That turn of phrase tickled my morphological short and curly parts too. :whee:

I just talked with administration and I need to go to photobucket and register an account and then I can upload the Mary Marvel #17 in question. Which I will do now. thank you for the suggested pathway.

It doesn't matter how long ago Metropolis put the falsification to me, they still did me wrong.

I won't accept compensation.

When did you scan the book?

It would be nice to see a scan of the book. Many of the Crippens have dust shadows, some foxing, and relatively poor PQ (CR-OW) but structurally still sound books so it may grade higher than you suspect.

+1

I've never met a Crippen book that didn't disappoint me in some way. Foxing, yellowing, dirty....I have stopped buying them, even slabbed as they seem to pull higher grades than I think they should.

Anyway.....sorry to interrupt the OP bashing. Please continue......

I disagree, some are out of this world!

To the OP, you're original gripe may have been appropriate if this thread happened within the week of your original purchase. But posting about it now and asking for things to be corrected is nuts, not to mention that you've managed to alienate yourself from Metro and any other person who would rather steer clear of adult buyers stuck with the inflated sense of self-entitlement of a kid.
