Since it is the "key" of the 35 centers or at least a first appearance, I don't mind having doubled the sellers mullah lol :flipbait:

It never left mycomicshop hahaha.

Still at $319 it was comfortable to what would I have paid. Then saw the 5.0 sell priced at $500 and panicked. Had I been diligent, I'd seen the 5.0 sold best offer for $385, which the 4.0 at $319 came to $365 with tax and shipping.

:makepoint: my point is I don't think I over paid by much, but the seller had got a "deal in the first place!!"

Here’s a couple of Very High Grade Star Wars 35 centers up for auction on the bay. Both are signed by Roy Thomas.

I don’t think I’ve ever owned a signed Price Variant. I was just wondering, anyone’s thoughts on signed copies, increases value or doesn’t matter? Also, anyone have any Price Variants signed?

It doesn’t do anything for me, but I am sure it helps. The only exception would be a ‘single highest grade’ copy.

That would seem like an unnecessary redundancy.

With only a little over 100 graded for each issue I imagine it will increase the value. A #4 9.0 signed by Roy Thomas sold for $4795 shows on GPA. There hasn't been many sales for these issues in higher grades. Any 1-4 35 cent price variant for Star Wars in higher grades don't come up that often for sale.

I have 1 sig series book and I bought it that way. Sgt. Fury 134 CGC SS 8.5, which, is, ironically, also signed by Roy Thomas. I don't actively look to get SS copies and I think some books shouldn't be signed but that's just me.

As far as I am concerned most every book is signed somewhere in the art. Marking it up with a sharpie is not needed imho. Most of the time they are for resale, so it’s not like I waited in line and shook someone’s hand.

The exception to me would be a cast signed book. A book signed by the late great ‘sir’ Alec Guinness I would pay extra for. Having “Stan Lee” scribbled in sharpie on the cover would mean no more to me than the printed signature in Stan Lee’s soapbox. In fact I would pay only the ‘qualified price. They are after-all a glorified GLOD.

Agreed for the most part, plus the fact that I'm trying to complete a nearly 200 item count registry set (30 centers, I'm settling for a combo of raw and slabbed) and I'm *trying* to keep the cost down! And some pieces are rare enough that an ugly sig or sig placement would ruin the book for me. 9.8 with a disgustingly awful one of those? no thanks.

Plus, us boardies can be both extremely cheap and extremely spendy depending. Sigs give higher grade points so those looking to be a top set almost have to have some sig series in there to be competitive. That drives the price up or at least justifies a buyer spending more than they would on a blue label.

I'm halfway there- so it'll be some time!!! I'm trying to front load and acquire the tougher books and so a lot of what I'm missing is fairly common waiting for auctions or in the wild finds to get them a bit more economically.

I get sigs aren't for everybody, usually when "new" then to collectors, " the greats" mean something in the first place, and now whether those nuances, most have early on are "grown out of?" Is a story for another time,

But more importantly....

Hidden deep within?

Are you saying that you're attempting all price variants in 9.8? Lol not that it diminishes if not, cause finding high grade of any was definitely a lot easier 7 years ago when I got back in. I don't even know how to process that time of 7 years within the market, between what I've bought and is now available lol at a certain price. That I will have to grow into that's for sure haha

My point being, I was gaped mouthed, and if truly 9.8? The jaw hits the floor lol 😂

Anyway, was curious

No, not going after 9.8s at all- I don't have anything above a 9.2 slabbed. When i say hidden, I mean it's not listed correctly or they don't realize it's a variant. So they price it low or on par with the reg price version. Also when there's a lot and they don't note that there's a pv in there.

Hey that is still effort in a sense of knowledge isn't always free, and etc, that sometimes cgc doesn't catch it. Who is to say the buyer doesn't know or isn't getting cgc to do it right, and or, just trusts how cgc grades it. Usually when they know and send it they double check that it is correct, but otherwise can trust cgc and the results. Knowledge is power, ethics is to not under cut. I wasn't bringing that up so much but alluding to waiting for auctions if perhaps finding 9.8 that I imagine come up for sale way less lol

Still an admirable goal, even inspired me to do so, but then those thoughts diminished as the market got above me. At the time I think star wars and perhaps iron fist were unachievable... In the end I chickened out as well because of when those prices achieved were high, they still came up for sale so minimally, lower grade didn't seem possible. I feel you on that, when contemplating a complete set, because as time goes by affordable copies of any grade go out the window. Except perhaps a casual sale of the current cgc label.

It’s amazing how many they miss and people grading them are unaware as well. I’ve seen probably a couple of dozen examples not graded correctly and many go unnoticed. I’m on the east coast and talking to people at my LCS about them people know of the Star Wars variants but other than that have no clue about any of the other 30/35 Cent variants.
