We are now in "Scheduled for grading"...should be done by 7/26.

The next thing I need to work on is to see if they will list a Registry

Set for a run of 3 books. I requested it but no answer yet...I know they

have been busy...I'm in no real hurry...we'll see what happens.

This reminds me of that commercial "These things take time". :kidaround:

Seriously though, I do enjoy following your journal in this thread.

Hi Marty.

I have a couple questions.

What was it like back in the WWII years when they had the paper-drives ? Can you recollect any stories about comics being given to the war effort ?

Also, what was it like in the mid-50's when the HORROR and CRIME comics were coming under fire. Any particular memories of the backlash against those type of comics ?

I'm going to guess you were 7 years old in 1942 when you bought that first comic.

Must be interesting to see how much the world has changed, especially how we communicate.

Jeez, you were around when you dialed a phone and said "Central- gimme Northside 777".

Nice to hear you never lost your love of collecting comics.

I bet you wish you bought 20 copies of Amazing Fantasy # 15 for $2.40 and stashed them away somewhere.

Ok, rambling on. BYE

Thanks for asking.

I remember the paper drives...even went around and collected papers

for a weekly pick-up...but never saw one comic book in the lot.

I do remember some of the newsstands putting the EC's Crime and

Horror comics up high so they wouldn't be easy for kids to reach.

I do wish I had bought two copies of a lot of books...but then who had

the money?

By 1954 I had stopped collecting and really didn't start again until the '70's

with my sons.

.....I appreciate that friend.....it's VERY tough to find in that grade range.....If I may ask, what do you remember about buying those Stuntman comics? What made them stand out and did you have to skip something you regularly bought to get them ? I've been attracted to them since I was a teenager in the 70's....I saw a small picture in the OSPG. GOD BLESS...

I bought them both at a newsstand on Bloomfield Avenue in

Newark, NJ. There was something about the Simon & Kirby

covers that made them standout from the other books on the

rack. I looked every month after for issue #3..but it never

showed up. These two have always been my favorites!

Thanks...now while I'm waiting for my SPIRIT #22 and SHOCK

SUSPENSESTORIES #6 to be graded I have to figure out what

the next two I send in will be...maybe my ADVENTURE COMICS

#94 (Oct/Nov '44) with the terrific SANDMAN & SANDY caught in

the camera lens cover...always loved that one...talking about jumping

off the newsstand. Or, maybe something like KO KOMICS #1 or...

I might send in two of my FOUR COLOR's like #129 & #159 they're

still in pretty good shape.

The cover of SPIRIT #21 with P'gell of Paris is pretty good too

...unfortunately I only have a remainder copy of it...but the book

is intact.
