COA is a waste unless you're using the UDA 5-Step Autograph Authentication Process. If you can forge the autograph, you can forge the COA. I've been an autograph collector for years. Can we say Scoreboard?!

Ok,

I'll let Ed know his efforts have been wasted...

If you like, have him contact me directly but yes a COA for the most part is a waste unless you are doing something like UDA does. Just how many forged autographs are out there on eBay with a COA Larry??? Can you say Operation Bullpen??

Hey guys!! I believe that the Star Wars Legacy #1 Phantom is going to be huge, especially the signed copy. Here's some information I pulled up:

Collector's Paradise in Canoga Park, CA, the Los Angeles Area Phantom Variant (http://phantomvariant.com) store, is hosting the Official Release event for the new comic book series, Star Wars Legacy, for issue #1, with artist Gabriel Hardman, writer Corinna Bechko and cover artist Dave Wilkins. The event is on Saturday, March 23rd, from 12pm to 3pm. In addition to the creative team, they will have an EXCLUSIVE PRINT only available at this event, plus the Phantom Variant cover, available only at Collector’s Paradise stores in LA area (Canoga Park and Pasadena). Also, during the release event, they'll be producing 2 limited edition signed comics, by the creative team, with Certificates of Authenticity. One for the Phantom Variant Cover, and the other one for the Regular Dave Wilkins Cover. Each Edition is limited to 100 copies, signed by the team and certified by Collector’s Paradise. Fans can pre-order these already from their online store, to be shipped out right after the signing.

Isn't this against what Phantom variant is suppose to be? That looks straight of the LCS shelf.

What is it supposed to be? I'm not being sarcastic or a smart-, I've asked this before and got no responses. I thought I read somewhere it was supposed to charitable or something, but I could not find any actual information anywhere about what it is supposed to be about other than a few stores having their own private cover to push?

I think it was always stated that it was about getting exposure to artists on covers/series that they normally wouldn't have the opportunity to do so. The OA for a few of the covers were sold for charity. It's also about giving a retailer something different to sell and a reason to push a title that they normally would not have. Money is made at all ends and at the end of the day, like all things in life, you get to make a choice whether you want one or not.

edit: also that ebay auction is for 6 covers at $50 w/ free shipping. which is better than buying each issue from the retailers directly ($12-15 each on their sites.)

Both of my LCS who carry Phantom charge cover price.

"It’s about a historic effort to support properties at a monetary level that matters, with exclusive in store displays & promotions for the creators by retailers. We are NOT interested in a “cash grab”, only supporting one issue. If we are in. We are “IN”."

I have yet to see anything like this though. It doesn't seem like any money is being put back into promoting. Money is just being taken out.
