1000 comics in 2013 book club

701 posts in this topic

Cable and X-Force #3. Terrible.

Fantastic Four #3. The FF go exploring in space and get into trouble. Not very exciting.

Secret Avengers #36. More evil robots than you can shake a tin can at.

Thunderbolts #3. Struggling to like this book. Steve Dillon’s art really doesn’t suit it.

Scarlet Spider #13. Talking werewolves from Mexico.

X-Men Legacy #4. Painful to read.

Thor God of Thunder #4. A pleasure to read.

Red She Hulk. #58-#61. Much better than I expected.

Morbius the Living Vampire #1. Interesting

I should hit 1000 easy this year, probably within the first 6 months.

Right now I'm still reading through the full run of fantastic four.

I'm up to 519 now.

I have noticed one thing I found interesting.

When I was reading the early silver age issues, it would take about 15 minutes to read each one, now that I'm up to issues from the year 2000 and beyond, I've noticed they only take about 8-10 minutes to read.

Anyone else notice this?

Is it just less text, or simpler stories?

Both?

I've read a ton of HCs so far this year (all modern) and nothing is taking longer for me to finish than Avengers HC by Busiek/Perez... that guy can cram words onto the page!

Detective Comics #13… The penguin re-emerges, this time to thwart Bruce Wayne rather then Batman. I liked the non-Batman follow up story rather then the main one.

Detective Comics #14… Enter Poison Ivy. Penguin’s involved here as well, which is good as I was wondering if the last issue was only going to be a self-contained story. But he’s in the mix with Ivy. Again, I liked the back-up story which fleshes out the main story being told. Starting to enjoy Detective again.

All-Star Western #12… The last page of the Crime Bible. Enjoyable enough story arc but I am getting tired of seeing Hex in Gotham. As much as I am enjoying the title & character, I really hope he starts moving onto other places.
