1000 comics in 2013 book club

701 posts in this topic

Hawkeye #1-#7. Everything you could ever want or need in a comic book – great covers, cool art and wonderful writing. Funny, hip and relevant, with funky pop references from Blade Runner to the Ramones. Burn those crappy Saga books and buy this instead.

Avengers #4. Plenty going on, none of it vaguely interesting.

Journey Into Mystery #648. Pretty cover, nice art and probably a decent story in there somewhere but I just can’t get past the illegibility of the terrible font Marvel uses for Asgardian speak.

Superior Spider-Man #2. Weird and creepy. And not in a good way

Shadowland #1-5 - annoying in the Mighty Marvel Manner of "if you aren't reading everything, why are bothering to read this?"; even at 50 cts a pop, too much annoyance

Aztek, the Ultimate Man #1-10 - cool little series, wondered why it ended so quickly

Elephantmen TPB Vol 2 & 3 (16 issues): still loving this concept and these books. Great art, and socially relevant stories. I'll be looking for cheap copies of the later volumes and these will be staying on my bookshelf!

Aztek, the Ultimate Man #1-10 - cool little series, wondered why it ended so quickly

Grant Morrison had just started (was about 4 issues into) his long run on both the DC title JLA, and his own Vertigo title The Invisibles.

Im guessing he didnt have the bandwith and/or interest for more Aztek. Or maybe he told the story he wanted to tell and was done.

I am new in this board but I welcome the opportunity to join this club.

I recently decided to stop buying comics before I finish reading my pile of unread comics, but this topic gave me a different idea: instead of not buying new comics, I just have to speed up my reading pace.

Here are the comics I have read so far.

New comics

Avengers Arena 1-3

Nice series. OK, it's a copy of The Hunger Games but it is interesting to guess who will die in the next issue and who will survive in the end.

New Avengers 1-2

I did not like the first issue but WOW the second issue has been fantastic, epic!

Uncanny Avengers 3

Interesting concept, but if they start delaying the releases I think I will get tired.

Deadpool 1

I never read anything from this character but I liked this story. I need to get the other issues

FF3 and Fantastic Four 3

I love the concept of the F4 going away for sometime and Mike Allred's art is fantastic in FF. But if Reed is in space, how can he be with the Illuminati in New Avengers?!?

Iron Man 1-5

I love the art but the story has been boring so far. I am thinking about dropping this title.

Avengers 1-3

Mmm, I don't know what to think about this series. I like the idea of a new and organized bigger Avengers team but the first story arc was kind of lame.

All New X-Men 1-6

Fantastic series, I love it. The idea of bringing back the original X-Men is fantastic!

Batman 16

I love the art but this story is too sick for me.

Captain America 1-2

Mah, I love John Romita Jr. but the idea of Captain America in a different world for years?!? And again, how can he be there and with the Illuminati or the Avengers at the same time?

Hawkeye 5-6

My current favorite series, together with Daredevil

Superior Spider-Man 1

I don't like the idea behind this series, but I am a big Spidey fan.

Back Issues

Damage Control V1 1-4

I am working on a binding project and I have started reading the first mini series. Fantastic, it seems like a sitcom.

Tangled Web 1-3

Sick sick story but nicely narrated.

Boooooooh I was late with this topic and I lost this opportunity. So many books I would have loved to read

Well, I hope there will be another chance.

Okay, I'm never even going to get close to 1,000 but figure I'll post along for the heck of it. So far I've read:

Daredevil #11, 19, 30, 31, 32. I love early SA, but sometimes I think Stan was a bit rushed. In #19, in the midst of a fistfight with the Masked Marauder, the Gladiator starts whining about annoying customers in his costume shop. And I'm looking forward to the issue where Mike Murdock takes a long, dirt nap.

Journey into Mystery #57, 98. Until I read #98, I did not know that the Cobra got his powers from a radioactive cobra. lol

Werewolf by Night #31.

Young Love #46.

Fantastic Four #36.

Journey Into Unknown Worlds #40.

Battle #34.

The Demon #11, 12, 13. Nice 3-issue arc with lots of great art.

Total: 15.

1000 comics in 2013 Club

Totals: 182 books

January: 175 books

Best of Amazing Spider-Man HC Vol 1-5 (68 issues)

Star Wars Legacy TPBs Vol 1-55 (28 issues)

Elephantmen TPBs 1-3 (24 issues)

Birds of Prey (2nd series) 1-16 (16 issues)

League of Extraordinary Gentlemen Omnibus (12 issues)

Captain America: The Chose (6 issues)

Astonishing Spider-Man & Wolverine (6 issues)

Illuminati TPB (5 issues)

Red Mass from Mars TPB:(4 issues)

Saga TPB Vol 1 (6 issues)

February: 7 books

Feb 1: Monthly DCBS books (7 issues). This is what my monthly pull list has dwindled to. Just 3 Green Lantern Books, Batman, Batgirl, Star Wars #1, and END TIMES OF BRAM & BEN #1. The Bats & Star Wars were good. As was End Times (Which felt and looked a bit like Chew in its skewed world), and well Green Lantern was Green Lantern....

I'm back in

Got a late start this year as frankly I was all comic-booked out after the non-stop reading of last year.

So for the first few weeks of January all I did was read a few books I desperately wanted to start, finished of over a year's worth of Classic Rock magazines (which I subscribe to, but hadn't read in a year doh! ) and read about 10 Alter Ego magazines.

But around the 15th, I started to get interested again and picked up a new pile to read.

Anyway, this is what I read in January. It's a whole lot less than I read in January 2012, but I'm not going for crazy numbers this year, Been there, done that :kidaround:

Planetary specials.

Authority - Ruling the World

Batman - Night on Earth

JLA - Terra Occulta

All three are disappointing but at least you do get to see Batman through the ages in Night on Earth.
