I discovered pre-code horror late last year, and have been dipping my toe in this year. These are my first "big" purchases, from the latest PBA auction. Very excited to add these. Welcome! I’ve been on a 7-year hiatus from comics and recently got back into it focusing on pre-code horror. The art, the stories and the thrill of finding books is awesome in this genre. Have fun! here2havefun

A seller listing a raw one with no grade or flaws disclosed just turned up on Ebay for $10k - you know, if you feel like gambling. Of course, feeding sharks by sticking your head underwater with a fish in your mouth might be a better gamble. EDIT: As of 12 hours later, the listing has disappeared. You’ve always impressed upon me that you were a frugal buyer, some of these look quite pricey. Were there trades involved? Either way, congrats! Yeah, I'm usually pretty tight with my coin, but these are upgrades that I've wanted for some time, + the Mr. Mystery and Fantastic Fears. No trades, just cash to the tune of about $5,800. So I'll be on Cat food for the rest of the year. Kevin.J, Larryw7 and Dr. Balls 2

Look at the delicate lines that defines Morales’ art on the cover of Thing 7. That’s a classic injury to eye motif cover and Morales is one of those great artists who isn’t spoken about much. The cover to Thing 7 is one example of why Morales was one of the greats. As for Bailey, this classic injury to eye motif cover is disturbing to say the least. Look at the hooks and one can’t imagine how horrible the pain must be for guy and how his face is in a “picture frame like” setting while all this is going on. Look at the hairdo on each of the little creatures! Bailey was having fun with this one. Gives one the chills! Heck with the artist who drew the others! Hey, love hearing detailed thoughts like these. I'm still learning, at this point I'm still in the phase of "Do I love the cover? Yes? I'm buying it!"......zero artistic and/or technical analysis lol. I'm loving scrolling back through this thread, as most of the books are new to me. telerites

Popular Post Jayman
Recent pickup here on the boards. I used to think this cover was kind of goofy but has since grown on me over the years. I’ve come to love that deep red background and crazy skull headed snake! Upon reading the stories which were all good but nothing too outrageous, I believe I came across a splash that was later swiped for an Adventures Into Fear cover. Lastly, there was a one pager titled “The Devil’s Chamber” that I found interesting do to my being familiar with the Scottish legend. According to the original tale, there were only two men gambling late on a Saturday night and it was considered a sacrilege to play cards on the Sabbath. Hence the Devil showed up with a handful of rubies and asked to join the game. Kevin.J, adamstrange, bronze johnny and 14 others
Popular Post Dr. Balls
Picked up a low-grade beater of a cover that I really liked. I wasn’t sure about buying it, but every day for about four days, I kept going back to look at it. I mean, there’s lots of crazy horror/crime covers, but this one covers a lot of the spectrum. A stick-up man attempts to rob a werewolf who has a vampire for a girlfriend? I love it! Robot Man, Jayman, Galen130 and 6 others 6
