Fantastic Four from Fox Studios (8/7/15)

Why does Marvel need the FF? Between the Avengers and the Inhumans they've got teams covered. What does the FF offer? Striking a deal for Spidey makes obvious sense, but I'm not sure the FF does outside of pure fanboy desire to see them in the MCU.

It's difficult to envision any scenario where Marvel ever gets back the two most popular and profitable franchises in comics history that are Spider-Man and the X-Men.

Four. Sue Storm is not American, she was born in Kosovo, which may explain why she may have been adopted. And why she may have an aversion to the military. She has specialist skills in pattern recognition which see her beat Reed Richards’ brain, tracking him down when she is on the run. Oh and she listens to Portishead.

Seriously Fox? Sue isn't even American?

This is a nightmare scenario in that this may just right off the franchise in the movies period. Hard to imagine Fox (or Marvel for that matter if they should regain rights) spending 100 mil+ on another experiment. Fox will be gun shy and Marvel - though I hate to say it - doesn't really need them.

Sad because I feel there is so much potential.

Holy !!!

I knew it would get bad reviews, but not Catwoman bad

I wanted to give it chance, but they made too many changes to the origin story that I don't even consider it a FF movie.

It's neither the 616 or the Ultimate Universe version, but Fox's Universe.

I think me & Mr 9.8 are going to see Shaun the Sheep instead :ohnoez:

This is a nightmare outcome because Fox executives will most likely blame this on Trank and forge ahead with another film.

Doubt that's the case - all the suits care about is $ and the stink of this one may taint them into working something out with Marvel.

hand the thing off to Pixar and let them try an animated version. 3 for 3 live action bombs is more than enough.

Didn't Pixar already do that though, "The Incredibles" and they are making an "Incredibles 2".

Galactus,Doctor Doom and Silver Surfer I think are the real gold that Marvel wants.

Let`s look at the Fantastic Four.

Reed and Sue seem out of place in today`s modern world.

The Human Torch can be replaced with the original android Jim Hammond from 1939.

The Thing is probably the only one of the four that has any value left.

So I think Marvel really only wants the FF back because the Silver Surfer, Doctor Doom and Galactus is where they will make their big money.

and did it to perfection. if Bird is truly working on Incredibles 2, could it be morphed into an animated FF movie? anything has to be preferable to another Fox FF disaster.

This is not new news. The 2012 negotiations between Marvel and Fox over Daredevil's movie rights if Marvel could get Silver Surfer and Galactus back is what caused the big fallout.

Once Marvel pulled Daredevil back, even though Fox had a gritty movie concept in the works led by Joe Carnahan, the sword dropped and people went their separate ways. But with grudges.

Scott Mendelson's review is finally up. Wow. He says the characterization of The Thing (i.e., his angst) was better done in the Corman version.

http://www.forbes.com/sites/scottmendelson/2015/08/06/review-fantastic-four-is-a-tragic-chore-2/

Separately, he notes the film's actors are fine, simply undone by the screenplay.

"The actors all do what they can with a screenplay that neutralizes their characters as soon as they get super powers. Before the big event, Miles Teller, Michael B. Jordan, and Toby Kebbell have a genuine chemistry both with each other and with Reg E. Cathy as their surrogate/actual father.

Jamie Bell is barely in the film and is a walking CGI creation for the second half. Jordan is fine as the requisite hothead, and he thankfully doesn’t share the wanton misogyny evidenced by Chris Evans’s Johnny Storm back in the day. Kate Mara has little to do, she actually doesn’t even participate in the interdimensional trip and gets her powers by happenstance, and (spoiler I guess) even needs a climactic rescue because: girls, go figure."

Yeah -- I put a lot of weight on his review here because he's a fan who was rooting for this film.

And he knows his stuff -- went surprisingly in-depth with his comparison of this one vs. the Corman version.

He also notes the film could realistically hit its $45 million opening this weekend, go on to $100 million domestic & $200 international and then be in a weird space of $300 million take vs. its $120 million budget, which is good enough to not let the rights revert to Marvel but not necessarily good enough for a standalone sequel.
