I just got out of a screening an hour ago. Ask me anything.

What's your favorite Superhero movie of all time.

What's your favorite non-Superhero movie of all time.

How would you rate this on a scale of 1-10?

The Empire Strikes Back or Goodfellas

A solid 3. As a sci-fi movie it barely works with a rushed ending and a villain whose motives are illogical and a bit confusing. As a Fantastic Four movie it fails completely. It's obvious no one working on the movie from the writers to the director(s?) to the cast had ever read FF. Zero character development, zero chemistry between Sue and Reed. Michael B. Jordan is a huge positive.

How can we learn anything, if we never face a challenge? Some of the best interactions I've ever had on this board were with people who disagreed with me. Disagreement and challenge keeps us on our toes, sharpens us, and keeps us honest. Depending on context, it's usually a very good thing.

Take that for whatever it's worth.

I would say it's worth watching just to enjoy the first half

Unless it's Jessica Alba accidentally turning the clothes she has on invisible instead of herself, I'm not sure this would ever be a scenario I would rush to the movies for.... "just to enjoy the first half"?

Screw Fox, they're not getting a penny out of me. I hope it goes down in flames.

Why support the poor planning and bad ideas of some multi-million dollar studio who thinks they can just release any piece of garbage and get you to buy it.

No thanks.

and then be able to say you've seen it,

That's the payoff? To be able to say I've seen it?

Nah.

and be able to form your own opinion. :)

If they make a movie where the first part is some young kids enjoying life together that's really well done, and the second half of the movie is a dog turd in the middle of an Arizona highway slowly baking in the sun - and 99% of the reviews tell me it's that - I seriously don't need to go see it to form an opinion.

I appreciate that you want to put a positive spin on this, or at the very least give it some kind of... polite 'E' for effort, but really I don't think it deserves even that. Even the best reviews sound apologetic in their sidestepping.

But hey, you're entitled to spend your money how you please, and enjoy whatever it is you want to enjoy. I just can't see being talked into wasting 2 hours of my time and money on this.

Really, the best thing that could happen now is that this movie sets a new record for futility at the box office, and Fox throws up their hands and sells it back to Marvel. Who knows, Marvel might flub it too, but someone else deserves a chance to get it right.

Fox is 0 for 3 and that third strike looked pathetic.

Chuck, I respect what you're saying but I didn't inflate or sugar-coat my statements at all. No added politeness, just my opinion.

Right on. People like different thing for different reasons. There's definately movies I like that other people think are terrible.

For one thing, the $120MIL budget was released back in February before the reshoots and has never been updated, and 'remarkably restrained marketing'???? Is he kidding? They've gone nuts advertising this thing in the last two months, it's campaign has been massive.

Not true. From what I've read in other sources, the budget stayed at $122 million despite the re-shoots because the re-shoots were entirely financed out of the reserve originally earmarked for the 3D conversion.

So they didn't go over-budget, but the necessity of re-shoots is why the movie's not 3D.

So basically just internet scuttlebutt.... We'll probably never know the real budget for this movie, much like ASM2....

Box Office has adjusted its forecast based on the early results.

NORTH AMERICA UPDATE #2: Early Weekend Projections: 'Fantastic Four' Disappoints; 'The Gift' Surprises

Friday Update #2: According to various sources, Fantastic Four looks to be on pace for only $31 million-$33 million during its debut frame. Poor reviews and negative buzz coming off Thursday evening shows are both having an impact. Mission: Impossible -- Rogue Nation could end up finishing in first again if F4 hits the low end of projections.

The Gift is set for a solid $9 million and could get even higher if positive word of mouth continues to spread. Ricki and the Flash looking at an $8 million debut, while Shaun the Sheep should hit around $6 million.

I doubt this will do 100 million domestic now.

In other words this will be a bigger bomb than the first two FF movies.

Talk about misjudging an audience.

Unmitigated disaster. Trank just received a huge thank you from Kevin feige. The ff will be coming home.

Serves them right. I'm glad it's as dismal an outlook as possible. They should have done their best to adapt the classic versions of characters and re-worked a classic storyline. The storyboards are already there...Jack Kirby did them himself.

At least Amazing Spider-Man 2 may have made some money, though a dog. I finally found a credible source that captured the production and PAE.

Should Sony Panic About The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Box Office Sales?

Amazing Spider-Man 2 reportedly had a production budget of $255 million and a marketing budget of at least $180 million. That means Sony is looking at a small profit on the pic.

Yes -- internet scuttlebutt, but more reliable than your unsubstantiated conjecture that the $122 million budget didn't include the re-shoots.

At the end of the day, I trust the $122 million number primarily because it's been noted by several different reporters at Forbes, whose primary mandate is to highlight the business aspect of films, and thus to get the numbers right.

None of the 5 or so articles there on FF so far-- each of which go in-depth with the numbers-- have mentioned re-shoots moving or increasing the $122 million budget.

Therefore the rebuttable presumption is that the amount includes the costs of the re-shoots..

I have yet to see someone review this movie so let me be the first

How can Fox make such great X-men movies and lay such a turd as the re boot of the Fantastic Four. This is the third turd (even though I kind of like the others) that Fox has done. I barely recognize the story line and since it did not show the title of the movie until the end they might as well have called it "Look what a mess I;m made of us". All the actors are B- at best, the -script was terrible (I thought I was watching a kids cartoon) even the effects were not even as good as "Earth vs The Flying Saucers" (check wiki). I cringed in my seat and for much of the time almost was the only person at the early 10 am show. Please stay away from this movie for if you don't your head will explode and your eyes will melt
