They're Still Out There! ....

To mimic a popular-right-now thread about an amazing find.

Not at all suggesting that this is remotely as big in scale, my simple premise is, you can still find amazing deals in the wild on ebay even... so worth it to keep scanning there. My question on this lot is... "Would I pay $60 if I found this in a box at a yard sale?"

Received my "no-prize" from @Randall Dowling, for guessing "Homicide Hotel" was his mvp back when he got it, and it was actually a really cool prize, a nice little stack including these 2 Schomburg covers and this very nice Carnival Digest (all in very fancy schmancy mylars)

1961 was a great year for Fantastic. I just bought a July 1961 so I could read the legendary early Simak story, and it was a sense-of-wonder extravaganza.

Just picked up those 40 sci fi paperbacks I won. The guy was a picker not 10 miles from me who got them in a garage sale so I guess I better start going to some. I've never found vintage pbs in the wild here in Fla. but maybe i'm not looking right.

It's a nice pile.

A couple of the Ace's are never-read upgrades and there were some very nice "talls" I didn't have.

Couple nice classics in

1st Print of the 1st PB with the lion on the cover. That's what you get when the artist doesn't read the book lol!

The 2nd and 4th of Fleming's American PB's. He left Popular Library because he was mad about their change of Casino Royale's title and Americanization of James to "Jimmy". Then he left Perma because he got mad at them for similar infractions and went to Signet. I've said it elsewhere that the market has spoken and the 1st 4 PB's from Popular & Perma Books are far more sought after and valuable than the Signets with their contemporary but boring (to me at least) covers.

A couple more for the Charles Addams collection, calling @OtherEric! Only missing a couple now.

Finally a nice fresh upgrade (right) to my original rag (left) of this classic Sci-Fi anthology 1st edition that i've been dragging around for 40+ years. Discussed around these parts for its Cordwainer Smith & long out of print Heinlein story (which isn't much of a Heinlein story but kind of cute).

Nice Addams collections. I sold my nice PB of Black Maria after I got a hardcover. The Heinlein story is his only credited collaboration, which is I assume why it was allowed in anthologies even if Heinlein never allowed it in one of his own collections during his lifetime.

A lot of great books, SA! I've slowly been chipping away at the first 50 Avons but not aggressively. Mostly just picking them up when deals present themselves for solid copies.

Here are a few recent acquisitions. These are all from my friends at Dreamhaven here in Minneapolis. I highly recommend them for quality material and excellent grading. First up is a Falcon that looks like it was just printed!

And here are a few classic digests that I needed

And a few classics in exceptionally fresh shape

This last one was an eBay purchase but an excellent cover painting will always pull me in. I'm curious about the artist. Rader did a lot of covers for Midwood but this doesn't look like his hand to me. The woman's back reminds me a bit of Fixler but other aspects don't match for him.

Great cross section as usual, Devil is Nappi or Howell Dodd Hussy & Fleshpots are top notch early Johnson, Babe in the Woods is one of my favorite Marchetti covers and Never Enough is definitely Rader according to Lynn Munroe's checklist. The Rader checklist is exceptionally accurate because his notebook survived with nearly every sale he did recorded in it!

A couple pickups today for my PKD collection. Book Club Editions, both are 1st Book Club printings and therefore 1st HC editions. I've got the 1st printing PB on The Preserving Machine, not sure what edition PB I have on Galactic Pot-Healer but it isn't a 1st.
