I can't believe 2 out of 3 graders put a 7.5 rubber stamp on that book. Amazing.

I thought all of them had to agree on grade. OK. Just learned something.

Well, it used to be the consensus rules. If 2 grade it 7.5 and 1 grades it 7.0, it gets a 7.5. But this may have changed. I rarely get books graded anymore.

I don't think this was ever the case. The finalizer assigns the grade with input from the other two graders but it is still his call. Back when you could find out what each grader assigned you would see it was not a vote. Once I had a book where the first two graders assigned a 9.6 but the finalizer found something and it got a 9.0 .

Wow.

So why employ 2 Jr's? Save the money and let the finalizer just grade the book. Seriously.

I never really understood the logic behind this procedure. It would be nice if CGC commented about this. I only know from calling, back in the day, and this is what was explained to me.

I would not buy that 7.5 looks more like a 6.5.

Riiiiight.

You can say what you want it is not worth 7.5 money!!

That is your opinion and you're entitled to it. CGC has theirs.

Which is why we say "Buy the book not the label".

Queue Roy to explain, once again, that you CAN'T judge a book only by a 2 dimensional scan.

We can judge it any way we want since it is our money that would be at stake.

Whatever!! Why are you boosting this book anyway what is it to you what we say about it? I do not like the way the book looks for a 7.5 there I said it again. You buy it if you like it.

IMHO, if books were just graded by a single grader, it is more likely that things could be missed from time to time on some books &/or the grade assigned based on the defects he/she finds could be a bit too lenient or harsh on a given day. When you have 3 sets of eyes look at a book, it is much more likely that they wouldn't miss any noteworthy defects & the first two graders opinion about the grade would help the finalizer in setting his/her final grade. In the example you provided, the first two graders missed something that was found by the finalizer; in other examples, the first two graders could find something that might have otherwise been missed by the finalizer. 2c

There is a very nice looking CGC 5.0 on Comicconnect right now.

Some of you may know that I am actively searching for a copy in the range of 4-5.5 and this looked like the perfect candidate as it looks very nice for the grade and doesn't have a hint of chipping. Unfortunately the lower staple is rusted according to the graders notes, so I am passing and keep hunting.

I wonder if people bidding on it however are aware of that...

It is their own responsibility to inform themselves especially with this type of money involved.
