I picked this up in the Clink auction last night. I'm amazed at the FMV of this book. A Showcase from early 1964 in 8.5 with nice pages for 75.00 ?

non-superhero, non-first appearance Showcases just dont have the market.

definately... those little "wallet relief" books are nice ways to keep building a set when the balance is low.

Bought this baby from Dale Robert's holiday sale. I told him that I thought that he very conservatively graded it F/VF - when I first looked at it I thought holy mackerel, this looks better than a F/VF.

There are a 2 flaws of note (besides a few stresses and edge wear) the small tear and accompanying wrinkle (tiny crease) and slight rub (top-left front cover) you can see in the scan.

Funny thing is I didn't see the rub on the book when I first looked at it, and I think the scan enhances it and actually makes it look worse.

Anyway, happy with the book - I may even get it slabbed.

Anyone venture a guess at the grade? Was Dale conservative - I think so ;)

Oh well :tonofbricks:

Talk about reasonably priced keys - picked this sweet copy off of Comiclink for a song. Looks a lot nicer than a 6.0 to me.

Back cover looks nice too - EXCEPT for that confound COMICLINK sticker

I've been here about 7 years, I think it's time we started one of these.

The book that started it all for so many Silver Age DC titles.

Great idea for a thread! I'm really surprised it's not been done before.

Let's start at the beginning . . .

What a great way to start the thread too!

By the way, it's me Bob-a-loo with a new identity :gossip:

I'm not sure that's a good idea. "Boba" is an uncomplimentary term for a washed-up old woman in most Eastern European languages.

Appreciate the definition of the new handle I've chosen - but it's not a big deal for me. Boba was actually derivative of Bob-a-loo, but a whole lot easier to type on an iPhone or tablet - but I didn't realize they don't change the name on your log-in, so the benefit of the name-change is seriously limited. (I guess that's why a lot of boardies who've changed their names - go back to their original names). CGC doesn't deem it worth their time to adjust the log in names I guess. It cuts into their selling us graders notes on our own books.

So for now, I remain Boba the mighty old wash-man!

Lets see some books Hepcat, I know you got em! :baiting:

Alright then. Here are scans of my Aquaman issues of Showcase:

The #33 was a particularly good buy since it has a 1/8 inch chip out of the back cover at the top but that bothered me not at all. What I didn't like was the miscut left edge but the cover was so white and bright that I bought it anyway.

:whee:

Nice! I always love the raw beauties you post here.

PUUUUUH-LEEZE Keep em coming! (worship)

P.S. I love Aquaman - watching Craig Ferguson does that to you

Boba, great run of books.

Early Showcase are impossible to find in grade, they just never come up for sale.

I have a #1 and #2 I can contribute......

I agree on both points! High grade early Showcase comics are owned only by the few, the proud, the hard core fanatics who intend to take them to their graves!
