I won the Campbell Gen 13 piece and it ended right at the top of my range. That Freefall was too nice to pass up.

CONGRATULATIONS!!!

It's always nice to see it go to a good home where it can be appreciated.

It's a full team with a full figure of Freefall, one of the best pages I've ever seen. Great classic rendering, and you don't see much Campbell artwork in the market available for sale, so it was a great buy! I am holding out for a Danger Girl page, but I know not to hold my breath.

Does anyone really think that the Guardians of the Galaxy movie will have any long lasting effect on the pricing of Gamorra art? Scott

Personally, if I had to guess, I think the Guardians of the Galaxy movie won't move the needle on any of the art that previously held little value nor interest for the long haul.

Historically, good art will stand on it's own merits such as for The Watchmen and V for Vendetta.

I think the "helped by hype" type art like The Walking Dead might have potential for weakness, but at the same time the comic is a truly good read, so may not be influenced by the eventual demise of the TV show, as most TV series end up jumping the shark, losing popularity and getting canceled. So, I can see that as a coin flip.

I think no matter what regardless of the Guardians film, certain characters by certain artists will retain their value and increase.

Rocket Raccoon by Mike Mignola

Star Lord by John Byrne

Gamorra by Jim Starlin

Drax the Destroyer by Jim Starlin

Nebula by John Buscema

Groot by Jack Kirby

Ronan by Kirby, Adams or Buscema

If I had to bet and speculate, I'd think anyone hording GOTG character artwork that is more current by lesser known name artists might be buying on the high end of a bubble that can burst. I think, but maybe I'm wrong, the artwork for "Wanted" and "Scott Pilgrim" both comic book movies, garnered initial interest and increases in the art, but it wasn't sustainable and many overpaid.

The GOTG movie feels like forced marketing of a bad product to the mainstream. I see this film potentially being relegated within the Marvel universe of filmography as a lower tier effort like Daredevil, Elektra, Ghost Rider, Howard the Duck, The Man-Thing and The Punisher.

Here's some interesting reads about the GOTG

Appreciate the analysis, but my point on the Warlock page is that 10k (and counting) for that page is already about double what a Starlin Warlock page of this caliber should go for, and I assumed the pricing reflected speculation on the Gamorra hype from the movie. While a 10k price tag for an A+ Starlin Warlock page wouldn't faze me, a Gamorra centric page at this price seems more hype than substance.

Having said that, I think the trailers I've seen for GOTG movie look like a hoot, and I am looking forward to it!

Its not just any Gamora page, but the origin. She is one of the major characters from that classic story (as you know). A huge shot of Thanos sure doesn't hurt the page either.

I don't know if movie hype is helping it or not- but the hype is fueling some of the Valentino GOTG art market in a couple ways, and the only one from that series in the movie (that we know of) is Yondu.

It sounds like you are saying that I am underestimating Gamora as a character, therefore her origin page is highly prized. I never thought of her as that major a character and thought that movie hype was the primary reason this page could sniff 10, a profile shot of Thanos aside. Maybe I'm wrong?

Anyone surprised by SSOC 3 pages....these were at Wondercon for about 15% of what they sold for...so very nice flip for someone sharper than I was that day!

Gorgeous pages, but yeah, at $2.6 & 2.55K respectively, I thought they were some magical Buscema pages, instead of Tony DeZuniga

And another surprise was $700 for a Joe Rubinstein Spidey illo...WTF?

I've never seriously looked for Starlin pages, but I took a long look at this one. The tone and storytelling are pretty quintessential peak Starlin. It's a strong Thanos page AND the Gamora origin page, both characters that are about to get a huge amount of play, so yes, I think there IS a notable investment potential here. Gamora wasn't major but she was majorly sexy. I suspect she punches above her weight in the hearts of fanboys of that generation.

$15K for the Darrow Hard Boiled panel page

Biggest surprise of the auction for me. Bidders definitely did their best to out-crazy each other on this one. Congrats to the buyer-- you clearly wanted this. And, especially, big congrats to the consignor!
