Rob Liefeld liked and commented on my InstaGram

32 posts in this topic

So I have a comic book InstaGram (@gem_mint) where I post pics of my slabs or recent pick ups.

I hash-tagged #robliefeld on some New Mutants books I got from my LCS.

Anyway, rob himself (@robliefeld) liked the pics and left comments like Nice! And great!

Someone commented "Liefeld at his peak" on the NM88 cover, he commented back "na, but nice."

I thought it was cool... I did realize this means he hash-tagged his own name...

Still cool. :cloud9:

That is pretty cool. I kind of had that happen last Friday with a comic writer when I posted a couple pictures of a signed DF book I got on Twitter, they just favorited the tweet.

Still, it's pretty cool when the artists and writers still interact with the fans/collectors like us even when they're not getting paid to.

As bad as social media can be with all the anonymous trolls spreading negativity everywhere...

You can have some nice contacts with your favorite artists in comics and in music. Congrats on the Leifeld contact.

I have had some very cool experiences using Twitter mostly and some instagram.

Three cool stories involve rock stars.

1. Posted a nice comment about Rudy Sarzo (original bassist for Quiet Riot and with Ozzy among others). He wrote me back saying how much it meant to him and thanked me. :) So cool

2. I used to play gigs in a bar in NYC where Blues Traveler used to be at night just hanging out. Well, I wrote something about the place to their Twitter name and next thing I know I was tweeting with John Popper for about 3 minutes going back and forth. :)

3. I had met Carmine Appice at a drum show and he signed a poster for me when I was 15. I copied his name on twitter when I posted it a few months ago and he was nice enough to respond.

I like social media. I try to avoid the negative madness.

I got a few likes from a punk band in Japan I enjoy after posting some photos of their records, it's pretty exciting to say the least :)

I don't think it's about the validation for me, more that these people are taking the time out to communicate (however vague or fleeting it might be) with their fans.

That's cool he left notes for you :D

social media could have the opposite affect as well. one of my favorite artists is Xaime Hernandez, when i found out he had a twitter page I was excited to sign up to chat with him, but after reading his posts he wasn't as cool as I had made him up to be in my mind. I didn't want to ruin the illusion so I never signed up and stop reading his tweets

Besides, it‘s not like meeting the artist in person. I have super-fond memories of 1991, when I met both Jack Kirby and Romano Scarpa (italian Disney legend) – both were not only favorite artists, but true "idols" to me, and they did not disappointed me in the least! :)

On Facebook, well, I was glad to briefly chat with Meganoidi, which are one of the few italian current bands I quite admire:

Looks like the Hernandez bashers have come in - very nice regardless :baiting:

lol

Beto is awesome

I caught his tour last year where he discussed his comic influences

Great time

When I had my huge Super Powers collection I had a big gallery of photos of it up on Facebook. The venerable master Jose Luis Garcia-Lopez made several nice comments about it. I was pretty damn stoked about that, let me tell you. :)

Peace,

Chip

I joined Twitter strictly to talk to Jaime too. I wanted to get a commission. He doesn't do that over Twitter, which is understandable. Many pro's would say no to it.

Anyway, I immediately got hacked and can't log in. I didn't care. I only followed one person and didn't plan on tweeting anything myself, so I just left it alone. But I get weekly emails from Twitter talking about the blogs I started following since I got hacked. Right wing pundits, porn stars, and celebrity gossip lol
