Marvel Preview 4 and 7 -- EBAY SHILLING ON STEROIDS

247 posts in this topic

I remember when I first came on here and someone alluded that I was a shill....and I'd been out of things so long, and was so new on the net I didn't know what one was lol

Wasn't there something just like this on Seinfeld?

And the fraud continues....

MP4:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Marvel-Preview-4-CGC-9-6-NM-Marvel-Comics-Star-Lord-Sword-in-the-Star-/301265550115?pt=US_Comic_Books&hash=item4624d37b23

As expected, this fake sale ended up being re-listed by the seller in a new auction, only to he canceled early when no one bid on it.

And this one with at least THREE shill bidders (u***1 (0), e***n (45), and x*** (34)) artificially pumping the bids up to more than double FMV:

I guess this nonsense will continue until the movie trickles out of theaters.

Here is another fake "buy it now" that someone popped on to spike GPA that was promptly re-listed by the seller.

One would have to imagine that if these books were as "hot" as all these sellers claim they are, this amount of buyer and seller chicanery wouldn't be so evidently necessary.

That auction is from jgallo, a pretty respected boardie, so you might want to watch who you lump in with the "evildoers" here.

I am familiar with him....and I have not implicated either buyer or seller (with the exception of mishmash when he called himself out) in any of these deals. As others have stated in the thread, owners of other copies of these books can also shill an innocent seller's listing. :pullhair:

update: GPA has now been updated to show that "sale" as a relist.

I've been watching these books closely as well since you brought it up J. There seems to be a few people on the bay who shill every auction.

If anyone wants to buy the book I would either:

1. wait a year or so,

2. buy it from a boardie

3. buy from a reputable dealer

I just don't let zero feedback jackholes bid on anything I'm auctioning. I also avoid auctions that have alot of the same nonsense. Won't eliminate all shilling, but definitely puts a dent in their shenanigans.

Seriously J? You can't infer from my post that Chris is the name of the guy who sold the 9.8 Marvel Preview 7, which you stated, incorrectly, is "obviously shilled"?

I'll try to break this down for you:

1. That was a legitimate sale, the seller is honest.

2. There appeared to be some sketchy shill-like bidding in the auction, but in this case all that did is drive up the price.

3. The buyer seems very happy with the purchase.

Playing the dumb card here is a lousy way to backtrack from admitting you falsely tagged an honest seller as a crook.

You threw out a pretty good post (look at all this action), and as darkstar said, you even got me to create an account! You just gotta be more careful - you stated something as fact and for that particular sale, you were 100% wrong.

"All" that did is drive up the price? Driving up the price is the point of shilling.

Man, Jdog just can't admit he made one bad call. Besides misquoting me and keeps putting "Chris" in quotes as if to imply he's some shadowy figure. Man up and admit you made a bad call here dude. Will this help you cool it with the quotes? eBay just ran a story on "Chris" :

The seller is legit. I actually used to own that copy (raw). Whether someone burned him on the sale is another story.

Both of these books continue to be so relentlessly shilled on ebay, it almost leads one to wonder if it would be a feasible option for GPA to suspend reporting any sales data on them from it:

Here's a fake "sale" of an MP 4, 9.4, and then an immediate re-list after GPA reported it:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Marvel-Preview-4-CGC-9-4-Star-Lord-Starlord-/321491360363?pt=US_Comic_Books&hash=item4ada60da6b

Here's another fake MP 4 sale, this time for a 9.8, that will inevitably re-appear on ebay...

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Marvel-Preview-4-MARVEL-1976-MINT-CGC-9-8-NM-MT-1st-App-ORIGIN-Star-Lord-/351155210561?pt=US_Comic_Books&hash=item51c27b4941

I say that because this 9.8 has been available for over a month with no takers at this price....

http://www.ebay.com/itm/CGC-9-8-MARVEL-PREVIEW-4-STARLORD-HIGHEST-GRADED-WHITE-PAGES-FREE-SHIPPING/121411736527?_trksid=p2045573.c100033.m2042&_trkparms=aid%3D111001%26algo%3DREC.SEED%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20131017132637%26meid%3D763c4602d8df4286a9ab16d93017268b%26pid%3D100033%26prg%3D20131017132637%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D4%26sd%3D121411736527

That's right gang, you read right. If you believe this "sale" then the first appearance of "Starlord" is now officially more valuable in a 9.8 than all of the following well established BA stalwarts in a 9.8: lol

GSXM #1

ASM 129

ASM 121

Batman 227

Batman 232

Feel free to add others at your leisure.

And of course you have this fake "sale of an MP 4, 9.6 as a one bid to a "0 feedback bidder", that's about $500 more than the one that just sold on Heritage on Sunday...

http://offer.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewBids&item=251626777138&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2565

And all of this is just within the last few days.

As for MP 7...how many of you really believe that this happened....

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Marvel-Preview-7-CGC-8-0-WHITE-1st-Rocket-Raccoon-Guardians-of-the-Galaxy-/321503630572?pt=US_Comic_Books&hash=item4adb1c14ec

...an hour after this....?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Marvel-Preview-7-CGC-8-0-Superior-Eye-Appeal-1st-Rocket-Racoon-/181507346518?pt=US_Comic_Books&hash=item2a42ae5056

Oh, and lookie here, here's this seller again, with his copy of MP 7 now and his three fake shill bidders trying to turn this 9.4 into a $2800+ book...

http://offer.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewBids&item=251626782521&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2565

And again, all of this in just the last few days. It's unfortunate anyone trying to buy these books off from ebay right now, or anyone trying to figure out what one might be worth in a particular grade, as ebay makes up almost all of the sales being reported to GPA.
