The fact that The Winter Solider Killed the Starks was heavily implied in Cap 2.

I haven't seen it in a while...where did this happen?

The bunker scene with Cap, Natasha, and the computer / Zola.

How is it implied Winter Soldier did it? It's implied Hydra was behind it, but maybe I'm missing where they imply Bucky had anything to do with it.

This kind of reminds me how in comics we as the readers know more about the heroes than the other characters do, but just assume that they do know.

I must be missing something too, I'm assuming UB just filled in the gaps himself.

Someone else posted this, not me: "They told us about the plot twist in Civil War two years ago. When Cap and Widow are talking to the Zola supercomputer and he explains that Hydra was within SHIELD, there's a montage of reports on Hydra assassinations which were all Winter Soldier hits. One of those was this - I hit pause and took a quick pic:

http://outside-affiliatelinksnotallowed.com/zvwxapf

So this was when Cap found out about Tony's parents, and I still didn't see it coming at ALL the first time I watched Civil War."

Yep.

  • In Winter Soldier Natasha tells Cap she knows the mystery (at that time in the movie) assassin as the Winter Soldier, responsible for dozens of assassinations over the years - and he almost once killer her.
  • Then in the bunker, Zola tells both of them that HYDRA (within SHIELD) was directly responsible for many history changing events since WWII, including the car accident that killed Howard Stark and his wife.
  • A little later we see the Winter Soldier together with HYDRA agents fighting Cap, Sam & Natasha and take them prisoner.
  • After the fight, when the Winter Soldier's arm is being fixed by HYDRA, Bucky has a flashback to his fall from the train with Zola/HYDRA attaching his bionic arm and Zola telling him He (Bucky) will be "the new fist of HYDRA".

...so we know HYDRA was responsible for the Stark's deaths and the Winter Soldier, being HYDRA's chief assassin, had been responsible for dozens of kills over the years.

I filled a few gaps but they weren't that wide. :)

The Cap films do seem to be a trilogy with a beginning, a middle and an end.

The first film portrays Steve rogers becoming Captain America and at the end of Civil War Steve leaves his shield behind and gives up his role as the Captain.

When he breaks Bucky out of prison, he's Steve Rogers, not Captain America, the same as later in Wakanda when Bucky gets put to sleep.

The next time we see Steve Rogers in the MCU it won't be as Captain America.

-of course, by the time the Thanos story wraps up I expect to see Steve back as CA.

I wonder if this means we should stock up on these?

Same guy, same powers, only now he has a new costume, and is taking on the "World Beaters"?

Sounds a little cough cough gay cough cough

P.S.: I didn't see it coming when I first saw Civil War either, even though I remembered the stuff about HYDRA being involved in Tony's parent's deaths.

It still surprised me.

So much so, that I re-watched The Winter Soldier that night after viewing Civil War and picked up on all the nuances.

And that was reflected in my first post on the subject. (:

What's up with the boots and gloves?

And all that flappy extra material on them?

When's the last time you saw boots like that outside of a Renaissance festival?

And just what is a "world beater" anyway?

And that new costume, where did it come from?

Look at the transformation

Was he carrying it in a little secret purse or something?

And why does he have to put on eyeliner before putting on the mask?

Does the cape give him extra powers?

A cape would be nice for a formal dinner, but I can only imagine it would get in the way constantly in a fight.

Tripping over it

opponents grabbing it and pulling you around

Snagging it on stuff

Dunno 'bout the boots & gloves (although they don't appear much different from his Cap uniform, just a different color).

As for the cape, I figure Steve took style points from Bruce.

I don't see Batman tripping or snagging his cape on anything.

Oh, the beefy man cleavage. It ranks up there with bare-midriff Thor.

In what world would a grunt like Ross make it to Secretary of State?

And Haig.

Marshall? As in the Marshall plan (and 5 star general.)

And if you are specifically asking about lower levels how about Kerry (Lieutenant), Christopher (Ensign), Eagleburger (First Lieutenant) and Baker (Captain). And that's just in our last 9 Secretaries of State.
