MS Paint? Photoshop? Duct tape? Magnets? (shrug)

No really, what happened to restore it?

Folded it back & just gave the whole book a serious press.

Even shifted the entire book...

But that back top edge had small tears where the crinkled-damage was.

Is that tear fixed?

I imagine they’re still there.  Just hard to see in the scan.

Either the grader didn’t look closely enough, or they wrote them off as production tears.

I'd like to make a suggestion with the goal of improving quality control.

Instead of having one grader per comic, why not have two?

Because an upside down comic book is something that a second-grader would catch.

Thank you; I'll be here all week.  Enjoy the buffet!

There are 2 graders per comic.  Also, the graders don't encapsulate the books.

Then it's something a third-grader should catch.

The more the merrier...

The graders never see the book in the slab, they get encapsulated after they leave the grader's hands and go to another team, the graders never see them after that...

We'll add some fourth-graders to handle that part of the process under my new proposed system.

The new QC manager has asked me for weekly updates for any recently graded books that have QC issues.  I will be keeping an eye on this thread for examples that fit the criteria above.

I gotta admit, I was wondering what the heck you were talking about at first, then it slowly started to register.

Lol..

I don't know if anyone else realizes... so they keep trying to explain it to him.

The issue is we pay CGC to grade and label books correctly.  As more instances of mis-labeled, mispresented, upside down, backwards, etc issue arise, then it throws into question the validity of not just those books, but all books.  So while your books may come back okay, the entire system is thrown into doubt and THAT is what should concern you.  PGX likely returned a few number of accurately graded/labeled books to its customers, but enough stories of falsified books popped up that their entire business has become a joke.  As a CGC customer, it doesn't matter whether your books were submitted 10 years ago or your first submission was sent in 10 days ago, the integrity of the company and how its customer base perceive it is at stake.

I don't have air conditioning.  :insane:

Comparing PGX to CGC is like comparing the corner drugstore to Amazon.  One is run out of a garage.   I was just commenting on the comment that slabs were designed as a fortress for comics.  That was not the primary goal.  Just a strong enough deterrent to chicanery like switching books to protect the integrity of the grade, not the comic.  Of course, again, damaging books within a sealed case that is never mishandled is never okay and has to be rectified.

I'd suggest joining some of the CGC Facebook groups.  There are more examples posted there than I can keep up with.
