Although it's a great cover, the reason it made number 2 is the story. Ever since I first read this book it has become a Christmas tradition to read every year on this day. I read it myself and read it to my kids and hope to read it to my grand kids once they understand it. It is, in my opinion one of the best comic book stories ever written. Written and drawn by the old duck guy Carl Barks, it is the classic Christmas tale. A story full of hope, compassion and giving. This is the essence of the holiday. 50YrsCollctngCmcs Posted December 24, 2015 Share Posted December 24, 2015 Hey Robot Man, reading A Christmas for Shacktown is also my Christmas tradition and I've passed that tradition on to my daughter as well.Since I'm old school I pull out this dog eared copy purchased in my youth from the comic closet; where it sits for the year waiting for the holiday to roll around. Some of Bark's comics were just plain fun, but these two carried such important messages that they have always been high on a different plateau in my estimation. Merry Christmas to all! Being a horror and EC fan, there can be none other. Such a gay, bright cover with such a sinister twist. I always thought that this could be the precuser to Crime Suspense Stories #22. Only Gaines and Feldstein would have the guts to put this out on the newstand at Christmas. Not to mention the psycho Santa lead story by Craig makes this my favorite. Robot Man Posted December 25, 2015 Author Share Posted December 25, 2015 Post Mortem (had to throw in the pun after my last post) OK, I’ve been posting Christmas comics and “junk” for weeks now. Now, you people probably think I have some big “thing” about Christmas. Actually, this is not true. It is really not one of my favorites at all. (I’m a huge Halloween fan). To me, it represents a lot of hassle, stress and grief. Not to mention the huge amounts of crass commercialism that the day has come to be known for. I do love the comics though. They represent the fun part of the holiday. The colors, graphics and the fact that they represent nearly all genres of the medium from a simpler time. They illustrate the “good” part of the season. They take you back to when you were a child and the innocence of the day when all things are possible. The part most of us lose when grow into adulthood. The best part of the holiday to me is family, friends and most of all the sense of “wonderment” that you realize when you look into the eyes of a child. It makes all the hassle worth while. This recent picture of my grand daughter really says it all to me. So, from the Robot Man’s crew to yours, I wish you all the happiest of holidays and best wishes for a happy, healthy and peaceful new year. Yes, we all shared some of our treasures on this thread too but your collection is mostly what was on display since it debuted and even seeing what you have shared so far i'm sure you have not even scratched the surface yet! Thanks for the labor of love your thread must be to you, and for opening up my eyes to collectibles i didn't even know existed. If i were handing out trophies this would certainly be 'Thread of the Year' for me and that's NO easy feat in this forum. This was published by Stanhall Publishers who gave you Farmer's Daughter, GI Jane and Broadway Hollywood Black outs. I believe I have all of this company's limited out put. This weekend 1-15/1-1/6 (Friday and Saturday) is the Glendale All American Collectors Show at the Glendale Civic Auditorium. While primarily a toy and advertising show. There are often old comics there as well. The "Paul" collection made it's debuet there several years ago. I will be there with just a single table this time trying to sucker people into buying some of my "cast off" toys, advertising, premiums ect. (no comics). And speaking of comics, a plug for Terry O'Neil's comic show at the Yorba Linda Community Center on 1/31. I will also be there with a big table full of comic book goodies culled from the junk pile. If you are local (or even not for that matter), you really need to attend. One of the best one day shows in the country. Nothing but old and vintage stuff. A lot of people even travel from as far as the east coast to buy and sell. Terry puts on a class show! Come out out and say Hi to the Robot Man!
