I completely disagree. As long as it is done politely, it is necessary even. This is not eBay, where there is no discussion, this is a forum, and as long as you're respectful, any comments on topic (i.e. from interested parties) should be allowed IMO.

This is a forum that has rules and one of them is that you're not allowed to thread in a sales thread. How polite or respectful you are doesn't matter.

This thread is where you can discuss such matters.

Not trolling at all. Only commenting on sales threads that I would be genuinely interested in purchasing.

Sorry if the people running them take offense to someone publicly saying what others potentially are thinking.

It is the essence of good manners that one is precisely NOT thinking out loud!

It is also in the essense of good manners to not intentionally try to rip off people :)

When you are done you will need to wipe

Calling out prices in a sales thread. Helpful or tacky?

Sometimes a book sells within seconds, sometimes it's still sitting there a month later.

The book is hot, but the price is not. This board has money, no doubt, but sometimes great books just sit there, and you know we are all thinking the same thing: "The price is too high."

But if that is mentioned, the pitchforks come out. Even if someone is just expressing what others may be thinking.

Thoughts?

Ask Columbia Comics.

Steeee-rike!

Your apples fell in with your oranges there.

There's NOTHING inherent about a high relative price, in a free market economy, that is a "rip off".

If you are speaking to undisclosed restoration, failure to disclose or incorrectly disclosing information that is entirely different than simply asking a high price.

People are free to ask what they want for what they own. They aren't free to misrepresent that item.

You're mixing your sources of indignation and you'll find it has the aroma of a sweaty scrote.

As far as I'm concerned a seller can ask for whatever they want. However, I don't like it when they manipulate the data to make it appear they are offering a good price. I know some will argue that buyers should do their research etc. but IMO the Boards should be better than a buyer beware environment.

This happened recently when a seller posted some ancient GPA on an expensive book in the Marketplace - only when queried about it did he amend his post to reflect more recent (and more accurate) GPA.

hm

That's what I was referring to under "incorrect disclosing". There's no room for snake oil here, I agree.

I've seen it time and again unfortunately. I've seen a lot of people just quote the 90 day or the 12 month, whatever suits the purpose of the sale. Thankfully there are even more people here who will quote all the relevant data so the potential buyer can be fully informed.

It would help to acquaint yourself with the rules and customs of the forum instead of attempting to overrule them with your own.

Discussions with a seller over their item regarding price are best served in a respectful PM. That way you're treating them with the same respect in their space as you would want for yourself.

Fair enough. And I do agree with that in most cases. However, when something is priced 200% above market value, then I have no qualms about posting about it publicly, unless the forum rules say that I shouldn't.

Anyways, I'll leave you guys to your discussion. I'm only here to look for good deals on comics.

That being said, I am happy to follow the rules of your forum, if non-discussion of pricing is in your rules.

Walking into someone's sales thread is no different than walking into someone's store.

You wouldn't (well, at least you shouldn't) start arguing about someone's prices in their own store.

People are free to ask whatever they want for their items. People are also free to buy them or walk back out of the store.

If you want to walk outside the store and talk about a store's pricing with your friends, you are completely free to. Or go into a discussion thread to discuss price. Not in the actual sales thread.

Someone asking a lot of money is not 'ripping off'.

Ripping someone off is when you sell something that is misrepresented, fraudulent, etc.

Is anyone else annoyed with this new 'Presale' format in some sales thread? Books just shipped from CGC, no pics, once they arrive the sale is closed or the price goes up. It's getting to the point where the only time I see pics of books is when the buyer shows them off in the This week in your collection thread. Even Clink shows the front cover ! I also thought return policies were supposed to be stated in the sales thread.

(shrug) Demand stock photo? I don't get the point of a presale to being with, it could really get you into trouble, as has been shown in the past

Nope.

Pre-sale threads don't bother me.If I were looking to buy slabs at a discount, I'd buy from those threads.

The seller prices them lower to get some quuck cash together, the buyer is getting CGC graded books, at a discount.

If the seller has to wait longer, scan and post up pics, it is only fair that the prices go up.

IMO if they are doing that there should be a take it pending scan option. But I think not offering that is the whole point of their sales thread. Who knows what kind of Frankenstein book you might end up with. I cant buy without seeing what I'm buying, especially in the higher price range. It's not like they are modern 9.8's.

I understand Not accepting returns on CGC books but I don't understand Not accepting Returns on

CGC books without a pic. How is not showing a pic anything but misleading ? Classic Buyer Beware.
